OT: Little Caesars Hot n' Ready: Delicious pizza with great value? Or low class garbage?

Submitted by Photogenic on

On a whim tonight, I decided to pick up a Hot n Ready pizza. Not a frequent pizza eater, but was very hungry and wanted something tasty right away. I have to say, for the price it's actually pretty decent pizza. I used to make fun of it in the past, but in a world where you can't even get lunch for under $8, they've certainly converted me.

I thought I'd pose this question to the MGoBlogosphere. Is this good value pizza? Or just rubbish?

When I was a kid and came to visit my grandparents in Michigan, I remember it being amazing pizza. Once I got to school there, I was amazed that it was such crap.

I don't know why, but the three LCs in Shiawassee County, and only these three, sell this flavored cream cheese-ish spread that takes the Crazy Bread from intolerable to phenomenal.

You know, it works when you have kids that want pizza and want it right now and there's really no Plan A for dinner, it is a feasible option and cheap. We have a pizza night in the house at least every other week or so, and we normally will just order from Jet's or Hungry Howie's, but there are evenings when everyone is running around, everyone is tired and wants to eat now and Little Caesar's admittedly fills a hole in those situations - but no, it is not a favorite by any stretch (I will pass on it when I get it for others).

I would never get the $5 pizza but it's not the worst pizza I've ever tasted so it's ok at the price, I suppose. Now, the $8 deep dish, particularly if you get it custom made with your favorite topping (mushrooms for me) and its fresh off the oven, really really good. Terrible health wise but a guilty pleasure once a year or so.

The one near my work we would get hot n sweatys for lunch all the time and they were awesome with the butter crust.

Near my house I tried one and htey're awful. I spoke to a guy in the know and he said they have different ovens, the one near my work has a gas oven and the one near my house has an electric oven. Makes a big difference.

ONLY if you cover it with their spice packets...that way, the msg covers up the shitty ingredients. If you are in college, you cant beat it though, 3 pieces for lunch, 4 pieces for dinner, and one piece when you wake up hung over.

It's fast food more akin to McDonald's than other pizza places. It's pretty mediocre in terms of pizza, but if you think of it terms of cheap fast food it is a very good value when in a rush.

For your occasion (on a whim) it's awesome, you can't beat a decent pizza for $5.30. Now I gotta warn you, you may get the runs from it lol And you're completely right about the prices for food. 2Cheeseburgers a chili cheese fry and large pop cost me 12 bucks at A&W today. Just insane.

I have been places that have put out a load of Little Caesars Hot & Ready's.  I passed them every time and waited to eat later.  It's not even worth it for free.  In fact, I think I would pass on eating a slice for $5 paid to me.

I tried Happy's when the owner of one brought a few pies to a job I used to have.  I tried it even though it looked cheap and awful.  My eyes did not decieve me.

I couldn't believe it when THAT was the pizza Nate Burleson thought was worth reaching to pick up off the floor when driving.  You make how much money?  But a real pizza instead of getting a freebie for being a Lion.

and it's either atrocious or oddly terrific. That isn't based on my sobriety, either! Sometimes the dough isn't cooked, there is too much sauce and it makes you sick and other times it's crisp, crunchy, perfectly covered in sauce & toppings for a $5-8 pizza. I tend to get one bad and one very good (for $5) pizza a month.

50/50 chance it's good pizza. Half the time it tastes good, the other half of the time you get old stale pizza that tastes like moldy ass. For the value I get ready made extra large pizzas from Aldi. Much better quality, average $6 for a supreme, or meat lovers, or BBQ, or Greek pizza, and I add things like artichoke hearts, dill, green olives, and garlic to the four cheese pizza (extra large $4.99) Sure it takes 15 minutes to cook, but you don't have to put on pants and leave the house!

I keep a bunch of frozen DiGiornos on hand.  It's quick and easy and better and more consistent then most of these places.  But my family says I'm a bore.

The best pizza in the world is located in Lakewood, OH. A place called Angelo's. It is right by Lakewood High School stadium, which is also where St. Edward High School plays its football games.

I worked there for a couple years. The Hot N Readys can be good if all procedures are followed (letting the dough rest, limiting pizzas to 30 mins in the heater, etc). You're most likely to get a good pizza at a busy location (in general). You can also request a fresh pizza--I recommend this. My favorite, and many locations will do it, is the cheesy bread with pepperoni on it. The deep dish is surprisingly okay. Quick test: feel the bottom of the Hot N Ready box. If it's damp, don't buy it. It moistens up as it sits in the heater. FWIW, I'm a pizza lover who won't touch it anymore. But if you're going to eat it, I hope you do it right
