Khalid Kareem to Bama
Disappointing, but best of luck to Khalid at Bama.
At least there's some good news possibly on the way later today.
Also: As a few posters in the comments below have said, Allen Trieu said Khalid was one of the "silent commits" that we've been hearing about over the past few weeks. Only 7 months til signing day!
"Hold me Magnus" ....the new "Hold me TomVH"
How would you rate Robertson and Josh King vs all those excluding Davidson. I mean Davidson is a pipe dream for now but obviously would be the best on paper.
King and Robertson are better prospects than Kareem and most of those guys, IMO. But they're probably defensive ends exclusively, whereas Kareem was being recruited as a Buck linebacker (and defensive end).
I really, really like Brian Burns, though. I would put him up there with King/Robertson.
Well, he's visiting Michigan from today through Friday, so if they cooled on him in the hopes of getting Kareem, they have the next 48 hours or so to ramp up their pursuit. AFAIK, Michigan is still in his top two with South Carolina.
But I agree that he wasn't a huge difference maker, he was a really solid prospect. He had some nice tools (good first step, flashed good hand usage), but he wasn't going to be the speed rusher that Michigan really, really needs.
Still would have liked to get him though.
One thing that Jim Stefani says over on the Rivals board (and I agree with it, but I don't want to pretend it was my original thought) is that the top 30-50 guys are elite prospects that you can't afford to lose.
But after that, the next few hundred prospects are pretty much interchangeable. Basically, there's not much of a difference between the #63 prospect and, say, the #348 prospect.
Kareem is not in that top group. Kareem is the #185 overall prospect, so there are lots of guys who are at least on par with him.
I think there are others that are similar to Kareem that Michigan can hopefully get. I would have liked Kareem simply because I think he's a good prospect and it would help in-state, but for the near term there are other guys that Michigan is recruiting that can be as successful (I think in some of the names you mentioned above more success at the WDE) as Kareem.
This is why people shouldn't worry about the class filling up. We're gonna get only a small portion of the big-time recruits we're in on, just how it is.
Do I need to remain seated, or can I run around screaming profanities?
This one was more ridic than Hand. Welp. Recruiting....
Hand saw us falling apart and didn't want to be part of the mess. If we didn't go into the tank in the 2013 season, Hand would likely have committed here.
Kareem once committed to MSU and I never heard any real big praise come our way from him. So it makes sense. If he thinks he can win a national title and get the the NFL, even as a role player at Bama, why not?
I think Hand was worse - much higher recruit, a guy who UM was in as a top 3 all the time and once Va Tech was eliminated was the presumed front runner for months.
Kareem was a MSU commit 2 months ago so other than the action in crystal balls the past 3 weeks it was not a UM for sure situation like it felt like it was for Hand for months on end.
Yeah, we had our Hand on our hearts, so to speak, for months. Remember drooling over the video of his visit to UTL II and the road-trip logs from his coach / mentor?
When he dropped us, it felt personal.
I have to be honest, I did not know who Kareem even was until a few weeks ago and I keep up pretty well with Michigan recruiting. You can't really lose what you never really had (or even knew about).
This one was personal for Saban. He'll be gloating for weeks about his victory over Harbaugh and Big Brother.
There are a lot of players out there

50,000k? I dont know if the entire state of Alabama has that much money :P
...competed for a national championship since this kid was about nine years old. He's grown up watching Alabama do it every year. We don't need to infer that he's been paid to choose the Tide to imagine why he'd pick them.
For real.
It's like saying Kelly Kapowski had to resort to paying me in order to steal me from Jessie Spano.
You have obviously never seen Showgirls or Any Given Sunday.
Oh well.
why people continue to pay for recruiting services I have no idea.....
Is quickly turning into a Negbang. So much salt (myself included) about this decision. I still trust in Harbaugh, and so should you.

Remember all the ridiculous hoo-ha about "Professor Needs-a-Raise" during the Dashawn Hand recruiting saga? Like he was some Alec Baldwin-like closer? Looks like he's batting a lusty .000 against Alabama.
It was a good education. Any program that had Pat Maloy as professor was a great one.
I don't doubt you at all, nor do I doubt Michigan has a good program. I was referring to the over-the-top hype about his ability to secure football commitments, which for a while was accepted as a given at MGoBlog.
Because academics truly matters to 1 out of 30 kids who claim it does.
something smells fishy, he hasn't updated his twitter page yet ;)

I think Jay's tweet was about having a satisfying bowel movement today.
Especailly since this was one of the deepest in-state classes the state of Michigan has had, and to let all this talent leave is disappointing.
You can't call yourself a great recruiting staff if you can't protect your own recruiting borders. It is time to put on the big boy recruiting pants and start making hay. We have to start winning more of the real recruiting battles (i.e., OSU,, MSU, Notre Dame, Alabama etc.) instead of relying on winning the battles against schools that can't put up a fight.
This staff might be the best coaching staff in the country, but to this point their recruiting is sub par for Michigan standards.

Wouldn't our previous DC and now defense position coach have been recruiting this guy in his backyard? Not sure the new coaches excuse is valid.

Our coaching staff has been here for 5 months so maybe we hold off on the postmortems? It'll help once we actually get through a football season too.
= Dough Re Me. Also, does JayBaugh realize he is turning into a parody of himself? He should feel free to STFU on Twitter at any time.
