Just... Thanks, Brian.

I've…

Just... Thanks, Brian.

I've been around this site for a long time now, longer even than I've had an active account. I was here for The Horror, for Henne/Hart/Long/Braylon/Manningham, for the RichRod hype, for Denard and Tate, for the RichRod despair, for the Hoke hype (including a hype video I myself made and posted on this site), for the 11-2 Sugar Bowl Champs. I was in attendance for the oasis that was the 2011 OSU win, and the ensuing slide back to mediocrity. I was here for Harbaughwatch 2015, and all the excitement that came with it. I was in attendance at Signing of the Stars when we found out we were getting Rashan Gary. I went to multiple pre-season MGoBlog kickoff events (always a good time).

But I was also in attendance for the trouble with the snap. I was living deep in the BPONE with everyone else. I never quite wanted Harbaugh gone, even after the Covid year, but I had resigned myself to 10 wins and losing to the juggernaut that was Ohio State being the best I could hope for in any given year.

But then I was here for Hutchinson and Ojabo! And DPJ and Nico, and Devin Bush, and Hassan Haskins, and back to back Moore Award OLs, and back to back wins over OSU, and back to back Big Ten Championships.. and back to back semifinal losses.

And now.. I'm still here. Here for the third straight win over OSU. The third straight Big Ten Championship. I'm here reading your column after we beat Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl to head to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

I'm here for JJ and Blake and Roman and an OL that seems unspectacular on paper but play together beautifully, complemented by a DL that seems unspectacular on paper but play together beautifully. I'm here for Will Johnson and Rod Moore and Mikey Sainristill and Junior Colson. And I'll be here watching the Michigan Wolverines play for it all in five short days.

MGoBlog has been a huge part of my fandom. Season previews, UFRs, FFFF, Game Previews, Game Recap Columns. My love and understanding of this program would not be where it is without this site, and specifically without you, Brian.

So.. just, thanks. Go Blue.

Not if we win Saturday.

Our…

Not if we win Saturday.

Our "backup" RB just went for 216yds against the #2 team. Win Saturday and we're #2 barring UGA imploding.

Ok.

Ok.

Yeah.. I’m not trying to be…

Yeah.. I’m not trying to be an asshole, Alex does great work, but it feels kind of gross to me that Hart’s medical emergency was an afterthought that was tossed in at the very end as a “we should note”. It was the story of the day in more ways than one in my opinion and could have led off this piece.

An all-time Michigan legend and position coach of one of the best groups on this team collapsed on the sideline and was taken off on a stretcher and is still hospitalized. This wasn’t even mentioned chronologically in the recap as far as when it happened in the game, but as a footnote? I don’t know why but that feels icky to me and isn’t reflective of how big an impact it had on the team and potentially the program.

Get well soon, Mike. We’re pulling for you!

Why do you say a lot have…

Why do you say a lot have given up on his recruitment? The latest recruiting round up on this site was still optimistic and 50% of Crystal Balls on 24/7 are for Michigan. Curious if I might have missed something.

He’s visiting for the OSU…

He’s visiting for the OSU game per Lorenz.

This is awesome to read…

This is awesome to read given the usual shade thrown at the Big House, thanks for sharing. Certainly seemed electric on TV.

Any other highlights from that thread?

Still in the earliest stages…

Still in the earliest stages of this process, but I wonder since this isn't necessarily under the same rules as before (even calling it EA Sports College Football instead of NCAA Football) if that'll open up the IP to other developers? Could we potentially have competing EA and 2K college football games?

A man can dream.

Split second, three minutes…

Split second, three minutes.. who's counting?! Incredible news.

Only two possible answers…

Only two possible answers here.

Either it was random and Michigan got unlucky, or the conference wants a team in the playoff, and knowing a 9 game season already puts teams at a disadvantage wants their best team to have as good a chance as possible to get there.

Nobody on here knows which it is although I’m sure there are plenty of opinions. For me it kinda sucks but is also cool that with us only getting 9 games this year, the fewer cupcakes the more fun it’s gonna be to watch. Let’s win the oldest trophy game in college football and dish some payback for Wisconsin’s cheap shots last year. I’m ready for Michigan football.

Isn't that exactly the JoePa…

Isn't that exactly the JoePa situation? Paterno was rightfully raked over the coals for only reporting it to the AD and doing nothing more, not reporting it to police or anyone else when it was clear the AD wasn't acting on it.

Seems like that's exactly what's being alleged here. If true, I think it's good that it's coming to light and his name has to come off of everything as an example, and I hope we can do it without the mouthbreathers protesting a statue of a man who "should have done more"  coming down.

It’s actually true! Some…

It’s actually true! Some quick research will show you the original lyrics are pretty fucked up.

Curious what examples you have of anyone trying to erase or wipe from history books? I agree that’d be an issue but is something I see being raised as a scary boogeyman idea moreso than something anyone’s actually trying to do.

I don't know anything about…

I don't know anything about you, haven't voted on any of your posts, and won't pass judgement on the information you've provided in this thread one way or the other. But you have to understand that coming into the biggest Michigan forum on the internet and purporting to have huge insider information that you're being intentionally vague about is going to get you some downvotes, and the way to establish credibility (if you care about perceived message board credibility, which you understandably may or may not) is to be at least somewhat specific, leave some bread crumbs so that if/when this happens we can say "oh wow he really did know in advance" and then next time you post something important we'll know you can be trusted.

UMBIG11 is a great example of a message board insider who does a great job not giving out information that he shouldn't but providing insider knowledge to the board and being respected for it.

Can you provide us any additional information other than "he's on the line on one side of the ball or the other and fans won't be happy about it"? I can't think of many transfers five days before kickoff that fans would be happy about. Do you have any information on why this player is transferring? Homesick? Playing time? Would this player have seen the field this season? In the two deep? Can you tell us what year they're in? There are plenty of ways to clue us in a little bit without outright dropping names and getting ahead of the story.

Again, you might not care one way or the other and I wouldn't blame you, but in general it'd probably be better to say nothing at all than to come onto a message board like this, whipped up into a frenzy about the start of the season, and saying "I have very important insider information that I'm sure you'd all love to know but I can't tell you! You'll find out eventually."

I hope you're wrong and if you're right I wish the player the best and hope he gets what he's looking for elsewhere. Go Blue, beat ND.

Seconded. AA Chop House is…

Seconded. AA Chop House is one of my favorite restaurants in Michigan. Outstanding spot for a special occasion.

Pretty sure the cutoff is 30%

Pretty sure the cutoff is 30% of the regular season. So 3 games and an injury you can redshirt, 4 games and an injury and you're out of luck. Black should get an extra year.

Meta question.. does Brian

Meta question.. does Brian usually do a Preview post for the first game of the season after all of these other preview posts? It doesn't seem like there was one last season, but that might have just been because Hawaii. After pumping out preview articles all week I'm sure he's absolutely exhausted, but those are some of my favorite analysis posts up there with UFR so I'm just curious.

Thanks Brian! GO BLUE.

Honestly think this is as

Honestly think this is as good as all-maize jerseys could look.

All I'm trying to say is that

All I'm trying to say is that our players like these jerseys, and obviously would like the fanbase to get excited about them too, and that it's got to kind of suck for them to see so much backlash both on sites like this (which they read) and on social media. And it goes beyond "Eh I don't like them but who cares, beat Florida!" and into more personal shots at just how stupid people think the team is going to look, what hilarious objects they'll look like wearing these jerseys, and even in the case of the creator of this site (who I love), implying that any Michigan player who does like the jerseys is operating at a lower mental capacity than the clearly superior fans who dislike them. It's crazy and I think it's unnecessary.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions and everyone can obviously post them, but I have to wonder how many of these 'huge fans' shitting on the jerseys would tell a player to their face "lol you're gonna look like a fuckin banana" or "you like the jersey you're gonna wear? do you own a mirror?" and yet that's what players are reading.

This isn't an argument I thought I was going to get into when I posted that it sucks for players to see this kind of backlash against a fuckin uniform that they're excited to wear on Saturday, but apparently I hit a nerve and have made my point as well as I'm going to.

Who gives a shit, it's game week. Go Blue.

I'm sure the irony of telling

I'm sure the irony of telling me I'm not allowed to have my own opinion because it doesn't line up with yours, and accusing me of being in a safe space, isn't lost on you. No safe space, not a snowflake.. Just throwing it out there that I'm sure that plenty of players like the jerseys, and it sucks for them to go on social media or the biggest Michigan Football fan blog in the world and have their biggest fans telling them that they're gonna look stupid when they take the field Saturday. But apparently that's a pretty controversial opinion worthy of downvotes and no dissenting opinion other than "git out of your safe space, cuck!"

I'm not even saying I'm a fan of the jerseys in all honesty, I haven't seen them in enough detail to pass judgement. Kinda funny that saying "this response from the fanbase has to suck for the players who were excited about the jerseys" is so offensive to the hivemind though.

Never said they're reading

Never said they're reading this blog to get fired up.

If you don't think players check sites like this to get a feel for the fanbase and read about stuff like the reception of the alternate uniforms that they're excited to wear on Saturday, you couldn't be more wrong. And there's obviously a difference between running out on the field in sweet new jerseys that no Wolverine has ever worn before and being excited about it, and having that excitement dampened because you read that the diehard fans think you look stupid. All I'm saying. Even Brian is publicly bashing them on twitter saying that "no player who owns a mirror" can possibly think they look good, when I'm sure quite a few players really like them.

I think they'll be just fine, far from the worst alternates that have been worn in the last decade, and I think fans will be pleasantly surprised when they see them on TV on Saturday instead of a terrible photo taken from across the street with a polaroid camera.

You know what's going to get

You know what's going to get the team super fired up for Saturday is reading their own fans shitting on their uniforms that I'm sure they're pretty excited about wearing on the #1 Michigan football blog on the internet which lots of players read.

C'mon guys, it's a blurry, shitty picture of maize jerseys! Can we get over ourselves long enough to at least see them in action in high definition before talking shit about them?

Willing to bet that when we see them in action most people saying the sky is falling in this thread end up thinking they're not bad.

Awesome stuff man.Can it be

Awesome stuff man.

Can it be Thursday yet? I'm not greedy, don't want to fast forward to Saturday because I know once it starts this season will be over in the blink of an eye, but I'd really like to get to Thursday so I can watch quality football for five straight days.

I went to the first one at

I went to the first one at Ashley's and loved it. Missed last year's because it was on a Thursday and I had to worry about working the next day. I don't think I'm gonna make the same mistake this year.

No need to register or anything?

But you don't have access to Scout's premium information. You can post on their message boards with your 247 account as if it were a free Scout account.

The question that OP had was that apparently Scout paid members have access to all of 247's premium content, but 247's paid members don't have access to any of Scout's premium content. Which is the case for me.

Great stuff, thanks WD.

I was backer #171 out of 3,100, live in SE Michigan, haven't received it yet. A little disappointing as they made it seem like it'd be here last week and they had upgraded the shipping but hopefully it's here by the weekend.

I don't disagree. When you're

I don't disagree. When you're trying to break the story that "the three players that have been rumored to be under investigation for four months have finally been charged, but I can't put names out until I have it completely verified or I'll lose my job", he did about as well as he could with the twitter character limit. But I was confused when I first read it too.

Willing to bet names will be

Willing to bet names will be out any minute.

Valid point. Based on what we

Valid point. Based on what we know now, the only investigation that's been completed thus far is the Title IX investigation, which found that the three players were in violation of university policy. One would assume that if that investigation was enough to not bring Blackwell back, it's probably not a great sign for the players involved.

Interesting point. I know the

Interesting point. I know the Title IX investigation was completed and found that the 3 accused players violated university policy, but I didn't see anything about Blackwell. One would think that if this move is based on the findings from that investigation, which we know that the players were also found to be in violation of university policy, and was enough to fire/release/not renew Blackwell, that doesn't bode well for the players involved.

Not that I disagree with you

Not that I disagree with you or know more than anyone else, but if this is the case, why would they have been extending his contract for a month at a time since March?

What you're saying makes

What you're saying makes sense to me, but there's a reason they've extended his contract a month at a time for multiple months in a row as the investigation was ongoing, and there's also got to be a reason they've decided that this time they're not going to extend it another month. Either the investigation is coming to an end and they have enough facts to feel good about letting him go, or something else has changed.

This is the interesting part.

This is the interesting part. The investigation has obviously been going on since January, and MSU has extended Blackwell's contract twice (for a month each) throughout the investigation. Probably having to do with not being able to fire a coach while he's under investigation or something.

So the fact that they've now decided not to renew him again for another month might actually have something to do with the investigation coming to a close, and MSU feeling like they have enough reason to not renew his contract. I guess time will tell.

Sucks for Scout, but if Webb

Sucks for Scout, but if Webb makes the transition, him and Lorenz will make Michigan's 247 site the best recruiting resource in the country.

The people who seem the most

Double post..

The people who seem the most

The people who seem the most "in the know" would seem to be implying that that's too small.

Some of what I've read is that it will benefit all Michigan student athletes, not just football. And that guessing what exotic location spring practice would be held at is "thinking too small."

I honestly have no idea. Potentially a U of M training facility that's available for use by all student athletes in some cool part of the country/world?

Although I don't know how yesterday's news of the NCAA attempting to handicap trips for football players would affect this plan..

I assumed it was about the

I assumed it was about the rumored announcement of what this year's spring practice stuff was all about. Tons of smoke around it making a huge splash and turning a lot of NCAA heads, most sources have said we'd find out about it today.

Good stuff.

Good stuff.

Stop spamming in every comment section. You made a dumb joke by editing a Wikipedia page, great job.

Thanks for the correction.

Thanks for the correction. Kind of surprising that a flagrant PF ejection with under a minute left in the game could ultimately result in zero plays lost for the offending player, though. Is there anything else that results in an automatic suspension other than targeting? Punch thrown, etc? Or is everything but targeting ultimately up to the school/conference's discretion?

Yeah that was one of the

Yeah that was one of the worst parts of the whole thing. If you want to hand down a slap on the wrist, do it and own it and hope the story blows over in a day or two. But to call it an accident and imply that he thought the play was live is just stupid. And if you really believe that, why suspend him at all?

On top of that, since Boutte was ejected in the second half of the game, wasn't he by rule automatically suspended for the first half of next week? Which means that the punishment that was actually handed down by LSU was a suspension for one half of one game against Jacksonville State? Ridiculous.
