meta: what do you love about the site?

I'd say for me it would be the diary posts. it's like  a mini-main page.

what say you?

1) Brian

2) the rando OT posts with interesting discussions, even if it's just a guy/gal looking for advice on schools or cars or w/e

3) anecdotes about recruiting/insider stories that would never be published in a book.

Dislikes:

1) rehashing the SOS everyone who has been around longer than 10 years on this earth already knows.

I've always liked hanging out with guys. I like guy humor. I like sports. I like smart guys, and I especially like guys who are smart who like sports and who are also funny. It's a win-win-win for me. Plus, I can enjoy the company of men in a completely innocent way.

We have the dominant personality of Brian and his staff, who express their crazed passion for Michigan athletics with a dispassionate and frequently brilliantly-expressed analysis of fact-based reality, much of it statistically based. Even if it's sometimes laced with a liberal amount of unhinged bile, it's still like nothing else on the tubes.

We have a dedicated core of non-staff who provide more inside information about the mechanics of football, basketball, hockey and anal scent glands than I'll ever be able to truly understand, but in the context of Michigan athletics. Except the anal scent glands.

We have a wide band of near-lunatic regulars who can be counted on for consistently hilarious commentary—some of it visual—on whatever topic at hand that repeatedly get me close to spitting my coffee/martini/Lagavulin all over my keyboard.

We have short-lived members who flame out spectacularly in a display of awesomely dumb derptitude, occasioning much of the hilarious commentary from those in the previous group.

And, to use tonight as an example, we have enough members that somebody can post a completely OT thread about an egghead topic like artificial intelligence, and instead of moronic, ignorance-celebrating derision, we have over 50 and counting intelligent, thoughtful and informed responses.

I think the latter is possible because of the first factor: the founder of MGoBlog comes to the world of Michigan sports from an engineering/science/data analysis background (among other things), and that sensibility informs everything that goes on here.

I'm honestly just on the site for the points. It's a helluva an ego boost. But in all seriousness, it is all about the board for me. Whether I'm feeling serious, funny, antagonistic, etc...there is a thread for me and at least one other user who I can relate with (and vice versa). And being surrounded by obsessive U of M fans doesn't hurt either.

Something like this, or a technical question or a favorite posters thread or anything else that's talking about this site would qualify as meta.

I believe it's used in the real world as a prefix to describe "a rule about rules" or "data about data" (or "a thread about threads" for our purposes) and similar concepts.

I negged you for talking about negging. That is what I love about this site. negging.  We need another negbang around here..

And honestly this site is a hub for both michigan sports (all michigan sports) and all kinds of exciting OT posts.  This site is the home page on both of my laptops and my school computer.  I probably check it close to 50 times a day in the off season and 100 during peak times...
