Kinda crazy how many comedians went through The Daily Show to get to where they are now...

The pad level of Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert is amazing.

Really tremendous. I like 'em both.

I was just thinking about this. I think SNL still wins over the last 15 years, but it's a huge testament to the show that the only reasonable comparison is to SNL.
February 11th, 2015 at 10:16 AM ^
SNL has a much larger staff which helps them out. I think the best compliment I could give Daily Show is that I'd rather watch 30 minutes of that show than 90 minutes of SNL.

Sunday was great and I'm looking forward to this season.

I'd be surprised if they aired it multiple times a week, but I've kind of expected it to go to an hour at some point. I think this show is amazing, and love that Oliver dedicates a big block of time to going after one specific issue each week.

Absolutely fantastic. Oliver's show is hilarious and profound (hilariously profound? profoundly hilarious? both?)

he covers armored cars in my hometown of Saginaw.
"Holy shit, dude!" "Super armor dude!"... "It's awesome!"...
then...
"Damn, dude that's fucked up!"
"Why?!"
"Has our city gotten that fucking bad?!?"

LOL That episode was hilarious... the part about Vermont and their pumpkin festival requiring police armored tanks against potential terrorist attacks... Shit had me rolling

He'd bring more credibility to any ABC, NBC, CBS news program these days.

That he and Brian Williams should just change jobs.

I wonder if he'll go the same route as Colbert - something more mainstream? It's hard to imagine Colbert being the real Colbert, but I'm assuming he'll have to in Letterman's time slot.

I actually haven't either, i'm just hoping that he's still doing something instead of retiring :D

Saw it opening night where they also screened the live Colbert interview with Jon and Maziar afterward. I really enjoyed it, I thought it was a good movie, not great. A well acted character study. I think people wanted it to more political and biting than it was, but there is a lot of "ha that's a Jon Stewart thing" that does pop up. I know that some people didn't think it wasn't LOL funny enough, but I went with my husband and a friend who often goes to TDS tapings with us, and we cracked up quite a bit. It's subtle humor and it's there for sure. I'm not entirely sure what people were complaining about.
It has some problems for sure, but coming from a guy who has spent the last few years behind a fake newsdesk on Comedy Central and not in the script writing/directing world? It's a promising and worth watching debut.

John Oliver, you're our only hope.

Aww, that's a bummer! I had the awesome privilge of being part of the Michigan Daily's Daily Show segment that aired over the Summer. One of the coolest thing I've ever done!

I wonder how CC will handle filling that spot. Willmore is solid, but I'm sure CC thought they'd have a longer leash with the Daily Show to serve as a solid lead-in.
What's Kilborn doing these days? I would crack up if they gave him a short run as a guest host while they replace Stewart.

Interested to hear what exactly changed.

When I heard his conversation with Terry Gross driving home one evening, I turned to my gf in the car and said "he's gone." Didn't think it would be quite this fast.

He was fired for telling too much truth.
EDIT: I was hoping I'd get away with a "/not politics, really" disclaimer. It was mean to be a joke (re: Brian Williams). But my failure only emphasizes why so many of us signed on to this thread: "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard." We salute those who do it so well.
