Jimmy going after Sparty commits
Still trust Gregg Henson? Here is what he has to say about Jim Harbaugh going after Sparty's HUGE commits:
At this point, Harbaugh has his eyes on a couple of HUGE MSU commits in 2015 and 2016. Looks like he may make a move on a couple of MSU guys soon. Right now Michigan is on the hunt and Sparty is the hunted, this will get good, soon!Scott (RB), Stallworth (OL) and Williams (DE) are the ones that I think worth poaching.

He was a big time recruit(some compared him to Charles Rogers), but has not been able to stay healthy. I would think by now, his hamstring should be fully healed.

Nothing here sounds like a target of a particular school's class more than any others. It is all just Jim trying to get whoever they can.....
Nothing to see here. Henson hates his Spartan Twitter followers and he is just trolling them.

This. I get the sense that Harbaugh and co. are just trying to get their hands on each team's recruiting class and shake it as hard as possible to see if anyone shakes loose. I'd expect them to try it with MSU's class, though I'd be a little surprised if anything comes of it.
This staff is in a really tough position with 2015 recruiting. Harbaugh was hired about a month before signing day (during the dead period), his staff is just in place now, many of them have been in the NFL and don't have relationships with 2015 recruits, and our 2014 season fell apart so early that there's hardly anyone left in this class and hardly anyone came to visit during the season.
They should be trying everything they can, including going after rivals' commits, and it still might not get them very far with the 2015 class.

I'm surprised we haven't been able to get back Darrin Kirkland. I thought with Mattison staying, he might have come back(especially after Ferns left).

Agree, much ado about nothing. Sparty FSU and Bama I believe are the only 3 teams (maybe OSU) to finish top 5 two years in a row. That's impressive and recruits are aware of that. Harbaugh is not going in, and in 2 weeks changing the minds of a bunch of recruits who have had a relationship for a year+. Larry Scott is their crown jewel of the class and Meyer has been trying to flip him for months and has a NC ring newly minted on his finger and cannot flip him.
I can see Jim doing this strategy long term as MSU is starting to get some serious recruits on the offensive side of the ball for the first time so maybe they go after their big WR recruit of 2016 but for 2015, it's the same thinking as "every QB in the country will flip for us in 3 weeks" people were talking about Jan 1. The window is just too small this year to do much of anything, and long term I am sure he is going to be fighting with MSU, ND and OSU over guys.

If you told me he was recruiting a basketball recruit, I'd believe you.

Oh please happen. Please please please happen. A little 'neaner neaner neaner' would make things much better at the office.

Sparty has a lot of recuits this year that look REALLY impressive on film... even if we don't actually get them and they sign to State... They won't have that chip on their shoulders of "Michigan didn't offer me" like many of Spartys best players had recently
January 20th, 2015 at 1:05 AM ^
Haha good point. Jim should just give a cursory offer to every single Spartan so that lame meme goes away.

Are we getting Datbull? God, I hope it's Datbull. He's so talented.

I am not sure I have ever really understood why people thought it was necessary for Michigan - given its historic patterns of recruiting - to try to dominate recruiting in its home state. We did well enough in the past without this being a priority necessarily. I don't mind shaking their tree for some quality players, but we've got plenty going on elsewhere too.

is having the fans on your side as well. UM, and you are correct, has always recruited nationally as well as anyone w/the possible exception being ND. However, other than securing the top level talent in MI you are also promoting good will toward HS coaches and fans throughout the state that will result in the door always being open for UM and possibly turning both coaches and fans toward UM as opposed to Spartyville. Coaches are the main reason because when they come up with a Long or Wheatley, or even a Cousins it is nice to have said coach leaning in the recruits ear with a favorable light toward AA.

I think it should be a requirement if you post about recruits that you need to provide a profile link with a hudl link as well.

I hate Henson as much as the next guy, but you idiots are just making shit up on this board. It is so pathetic that we spend so much of our time on this guy, just ignore him or you look as idiotic as him.

Fuck those guys.

Except, you know, Harbaugh. He could recruit my cat and a bag of used socks at this point, and I would trust him to make them all-conference players by the time they are juniors. My cat definitely has the body mass to play nose tackle, though he is susceptible to distraction by catnip. Also, like most cats, he doesn't have a high motor.

No breakdown on the bag of used socks?

as possible. He doesn't name the Sparty commits and why wouldn't a new coach try and poach his rivals best prospects? Kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

Sparty has gotten a lot of underrated talents in the last several years, in looking at their recruits now I still see underrated players, only now they are all high 3 star or low 4 star underrated players instead of 2 star ones. What is especially disturbing is they are starting to get more players from Texas and Florida. I cannot overstate my desire for our staff to start pulling in 5-10 players from these 2 states every class. The high school football played in FL and TX is a whole different world away from the football played in the rest of the country.
Sparty has several recruits I would love to see in Maize and Blue, but I don't see any of them flipping. #1 and #2 on my wish list would be Tyriq Thompson and LJ Scott, those guys looked like the best players on the field in the Semper Fi game. Thompson is already enrolled at State and Scott told Urban no so I doubt he flips to us.
January 20th, 2015 at 9:53 AM ^
Thompson enrolled early, so he's a 0% option.

He's trying to fill out a class in basically a month. He's watching film and contacting every and anyone that he feels is worthy of an offer and finding out if there is any interest at all. And that's exactly what he should be doing. Some kids will be interested in his pitch because of the combination of Michigan and a highly regarded staff that has a strong case for telling guys that they can get them to the NFL.
But this isn't MSU specific. This is anyone who may even take a glance in Michigan's direction. Harbaugh wants the process stretched out, that's why people shouldn't be disappointed at the lack of commits this weekend. Harbaugh wants to process lengthened so players can become more familiar with him and his staff and actually consider switching or coming to Michigan, despite not having a relationship at length.
As for MSU, there are a few guys I'd be interested off that class. LJ Scott is a guy that reminds me a bit of Chris Perry in how he plays, but if OSU couldn't rip him away from MSU I don't think anyone could. I really like Stallworth as a high upside guy, either as an interior OL, or my preference, at DT. Williams is a good DT that could help Michigan. I was higher on Lewerke than I was on Malzone, though his stats may point to him having consistency issues with his mechanics (something that may simply be fixed with more reps, he certainly flashes high level mechanics on his highlight film). Listermann reminds me a lot of Braden, a bull of a player that needs some work to quicken his feet, is probably a pure RT prospect, but could eventually be very good there.
So yeah, they have guys worth looking into for Harbaugh. What comes of it though, I really doubt much given the circumstances. But it's worth looking into.
