Coaching rumors UPDATED: full-time ST (Webb), Wheatley at RBs (Balas)
Look for Michigan to hire an assistant that will coach special teams exclusively. No position
— Sam Webb (@SamWebb77) January 7, 2015
This is thread-worthy, I think, because I'm pretty sure that this is Sam's way of saying something without revealing the name of the person who is going to take the job...
EDIT: Balas seems to be indicating that Ty Wheatley is our new RB coach:
Tyrone Wheatley officially in as Michigan's RB coach? Sounds like it ($): https://t.co/6VzBjjy9BA

You just wanted to brag again that you were at the game, huh?
haha
The ball came out funny, was barely long enough (from 37 yards out) and I remember watching it (and even after watching replays) thinking it was nicked on its way over the line. I don't think ABC ever showed a side angle replay nor do I remember it from SportsCenter.
Did anyone ever ask Burgess (think it was him) if he got a piece of it?

ace recruiter/special teams expert please. does this mean no TE coach?
January 6th, 2015 at 7:33 PM ^
I realize the playing TE is different than being a WR or OL. But why can't we just have the TE's work on blocking with the OL and catching/route running with the WR's?
I admit that I'm clueless on how most college programs set up their staffs.

are very different for a TE than for a WR. And the OL just needs to work on blocking schemes while a TE needs to be able to transition from blocking to receiving. I'd expect any offense that utilizes TEs extensively to have a TE coach.

Not to be snarky, but I'm pretty sure we all realize that.

Some schools do this where the TE will work with both groups and they dont have a specific coach. They also go with a certain group when they have meetings. The school I spent two years at ran the ball extensively and by that I mean 80% of the time we ran the ball. So us TE were in meetings with the O line and then when we were practicing we would run routes and work on open field blocking with the WR group. when you work on routes as a TE like this you usually run only the routes that the TE will run in the offense and from a position where your hand is down.

So..wait... SOME schools don't have a TE coach, they just work with OL AND WR? Is that what you're saying?
Interesting...

OC/OL sounds like more work than two of the other offensive asstiants combined.

whatever we have to do to stop allowing 25 yard punt returns.

And fewer than 12 players.

Have to imagine if Coach Harbaugh measures everyone's effort and posts results for all to see that some of the players will be rewarded with special teams time. Will be great if special teams can win a game this year with a return for a TD or two.

According to Florida's website:
- Prior to his time at Florida, Hutzler spent three seasons (2007-09) at Stanford working for coach Jim Harbaugh.
- Also worked under Harbaugh at the University of San Diego in 2006. The Toreros' nationally-ranked defense helped USD win the Division I-AA Mid-Major National Championship.

I like it. Special Teams to me is about getting the most electric players on the field. Some players really shine on STs and just have a knack for the ball. With Peppers, D. Thomas and Norfleet, somebody has to break out sooner or later.
