Adam Schefter says UM has no IPads?

I think Hoke constantly talked about iPad level. Or was that Marinelli?

may have put some large $$$ in Vegas and he is getting very nervous about his "position".
I know pure speculation .... oh wait - that's what he's fucking doing! HAHAHA
Go Blue!

players looking at film on Ipads and if they have them, then surely the football players do. I like Schecter but that sounds spurious at best. And even if that is true, that is an obsticle easily overcome. The plane might be a bigger issue, but also likely to be overcome if necessary.
December 18th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
Yes, I've been in the locker room in Crisler. The player's lockers have a special cutout at the top to fit where the iPads get velcroed.
But you're talking about a much smaller number of players to provide iPads too. It's not inconceivable to me that the hoops teams would have them, but the football team doesn't. Photos I've seen of the football locker room don't seem to have a place for ipads, so I'd wonder where you'd keep 110 of the things if not there.

Can we blame the lack of iPads on Addidas, as all the Nike teams have them???

I thought I remember them using iPads also. Why would a university approve the use for GPS technology on its players, but not give them iPads for things like film study? Schefter has really sucked lately...
If Harbaugh does come here, I hope they film a special segment where he walks into Schefter's office and pulls the Michigan helmet off of the shelf he has behind him.

I know plenty of people who prefer PCs for their work and recreation for a variety of good reasons, and I agree that the typical Apple ideologue is an obnoxious asshat hipster who should be punched in his skinny-jeaned nuts on general principles. "Genius Bar" my ass.

What you mean to say is that OSX is built off a Unix framework. You can say it is a Unix-like system. Linux is also a Unix-like system. OSX and Linux are more like cousins (albeit cousins that don't totally get along) than parent-child.
Windows is more like the obnoxious asshole said cousins happen to share a subway car with.

Not to mention that Apple products work. PCs? Nope. They break down constantly. The cost to repair/replace PCs vastly outweighs the cost of an Apple product. I had to use PCs in my last business (due to software restrictions) but outfitted my newest company with only Apple products. I'll never go back to the garbage PC.
December 18th, 2014 at 10:55 AM ^
I'm sure they exist, because people talk about them, but I've never had one die on me.
Then again, I don't buy the $199 black friday walmart special.
December 18th, 2014 at 1:17 PM ^
Me either. I had to replace PCs (on average) every 2 years. I was able to sneak one mac into my old company (as it had a separate use then all the PCs); it was replaced after 6 years. Macs are just better machines.
December 18th, 2014 at 3:39 PM ^
my last desktop for 9 years. Current laptops for 6 and 5 years. No issues.
Apple is fine, but I don't think they're worth the price premium.
/opinions, assholes, etc.

Man, I'm jealous. Can I work for your company? LOL, seriously! I would love to use a Mac for my job. My company purchased new computers two years ago and I was so hoping they would go with Apple, but of course they went with the typical Dell shit. I mean, these computers are far better than the shit we had before, but I love Macs so much more. I asked the IT manager if we could at least use Safari, but no, of course not. Only shitty INternet Explorer (I don't use it) and Firefox, which is OK, but Safari and Google Chrome are better.

If you're one of the girls from your avatar...sure.
And yes, we also ban IE. Apple machines, google apps...that's how we roll and it works well.

All you guys are so off as to what PCs are good for and why ypou think Macs are better. As the industry standard is no more than 2-3 years for retaining your hardware with how fast the technology is evolving, it doesn't matter if your Mac runs fine for 2 years longer than your PC. Yeah Macs have there benefits which reside heavily in multimedia software, etc... But how about the fact that a crap ton of business level software for many professional fields are created with .net framework, visual C++ and in a lot cases MS SQL, etc...? You want to get those installed on your Mac? Go ahead and figure it out yourself without tearing your hair out, using a bunch of backdoor workarounds and 3rd party programs. Fact of the matter is PC dominates the market, so many software developers design their software for optimum performance on PC alone. Investing time, effort and money in developing, testing and supporting their software on an OS with a minority market share especially in the business sector makes little to no sense.
So to rephrase what you said, if you are getting a computer for personal use, choose whatever floats your boat. If you are getting a computer for business use, make your decision based on the professional software you will be using on it, which will most likely be for Windows OS, but in certain industries can be predominantly Mac.

They are way overpriced. You can get a windows machine with the same or better hardware for much cheaper.
I'm not fond of paying 1/3 extra for branding.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:16 AM ^
December 18th, 2014 at 12:53 PM ^
I'd pay extra if I didn't have to wait the extra few minutes every morning waiting for my POS windows laptop to start up.
December 18th, 2014 at 10:51 AM ^
Those stereotypical Apple hipsters are almost as big of asshats as someone who would post "Apple sucks" in a thread just to be "cool" (I think that reply must be sarcasm? Funny either way.)
Maybe you miseed the memo, but it's trendy to be anti-Apple, and has been for a while.
But they do keep selling gajillions of machines, because they are quality, like you say. That said, I think the watch isn't unique, and it won't follow the iPod/iPhone/iPad trajectories, but I still wouldn't sell my stock in the company.
December 18th, 2014 at 1:16 PM ^
Apple is bipolar. Had they not decided to go proprietary and instead used international standard protocols, PCs would never have been able to compete. Apple was arrogant enough to expect software companies to create for their proprietary standards and software companies in general embraced international standard protocols. Hence, Microsoft, embracing international standard protocols, gained the advantage.
Not only do creative visual arts pros prefer MACs, so do music software pros.
Emagic's Logic was/is the premier pro audio recording studio DAW (digital audio workstation) software. It was available on both platforms (Windows and Mac). Then, Apple bought the company in 2002 and made Logic Mac only, dropping Windows support. They gave existing PC users the 'opportunity' to purchase Macs at a discount for a brief window, and then said so long.
I was pissed. I bought Emagic's Logic in late 2001 (retail then was about a grand). Then spent chunks on Emagic Logic samplers and sample libraries. I'd just built a kickass PC to optimize Emagic Logic (I could run over 50 tracks with each having about seven plugins running, with full automation as well..flawlessly back in 2002). There was no way I was switching my studio over to Mac. Then, several years ago, Apple cut the Price for Logic in half and added all of the add on music samplers and sample libraries for free. Game changer. What previously would have cost about 3 grand, could be had for 500 bucks (Just buy a Mac to run it on...lol).
So they suck for making proprietary choices, but they have always made the better product. Windows stole the Windows concept from Mac. They were using a form of windows when PC's were still DOS based.
No comparison, really, as far as stability and performance.

If there were going to be real agent smokescreens - Mort would know. Schefter can only report what he's told. Mort would have the real info. If we're not hearing from Mort - we're not hearing real agent rumor mongering.

Bristol, Conn. Home of self-serving sports reporting at its finest. I have no information to report so I will use some ridiculous claptrap as reasons to support my premise that I have no sourcing or inside information.
Harbabaugh doesn't need a jet or airplane, Michigan is offered them on loan anytime he really needs one. For crying out loud, Bo got stuck on 94 going to Detroit on winter day, and everyone passed him by including state troopers before John Falk came to his rescue.
Are we really going there? Airplanes and Ipads as reasons to think a guy wouldn't coach at his alma mater? Dumb assery at its finest.

The first line of his report was just a lie. He makes it sound like NFL and Michigan sources have been saying the same thing all along. Not only is that an obvious lie, but the two sides had been openly mocking each other.
Multiple NFL and Michigan sources had said for weeks that 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh was not expected to wind up at Michigan, but in recent days at least one person familiar with his thinking said he was at least "considering it."
December 18th, 2014 at 10:11 AM ^
Maybe he's ironically pointing out the lack of legitimate reasons for Harbaugh not to take the job.
It's happening

December 18th, 2014 at 9:33 AM ^
Basically Schefter gave an interview that said he doesn't believe the offer to Harbaugh is real, just agent smokescreen for leverage. He used as justification that UM is cheap, by stating that UM doesn't pay assistants and doesn't give athletes iPads as his examples to prove his theory. And as many have pointed out, UM has started paying its assistants, and UM was one of the first universities to supply iPads to its players. So, basically Schefter is talking out of his ass on this particular issue.
December 18th, 2014 at 9:35 AM ^
to like Schefter. Now I consider him a douche. That is all.

December 18th, 2014 at 9:47 AM ^
He's really reaching for reasons that Harbaugh wouldn't come here now after being so certain before. Basically he is claiming Michigan is cheap. That flies in the face of both this offer and the last coach they hired. $1.3M a year for Nussmeier.
December 18th, 2014 at 9:58 AM ^
I think Michigan is in the top 10 for total assistant pay? It's not like they are bottom of the barrel for college teams anyway.
December 18th, 2014 at 10:01 AM ^
Michigan is so cheap that they just offered an $8,000,000.00+ Million Dollar contract! What am I missing? Was it that shocking when Saban got a raise?
The more they (talk) the more it shows just how RELEVANT the U of M is. The NFL guys are doing some serious backstroking!
December 18th, 2014 at 10:12 AM ^
His misguided point is that Michigan is cheap so the $8M/year contract can't possibly be real. Thus, using the contract offer to argue against Schefter's points isn't really effective.
