OT: Carnival of the Absurd in Post-Game 49er's Locker Room
Having enjoyed a fellow member's post regarding Jed York's post-game apology tweet, I figured fellow members might also enjoy a peek into the 49er's post-game locker room.
According to Tim Kawakami, the 49er's post-game locker room scene was "bizarre." As evidence for this proposition, Mr. Kawakami cites the following evidence:
(1) "Team president Paraag Marathe was in the room for Harbaugh's postgame presser," which is something Mr. Kawakami has "never seen before," and
(2) "Jed York and Trent Baalke were in the trainer's room next to the locker room, pacing around," which is something Mr. Kawakami has "also never seen before."
Mr. Kawakami speculates on the meaning of the foregoing evidence, though only at tweet depth. For superfans like ourselves, it's worth a glance:
http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/49ers-ceo-jed-york-tweets-apology-fa…
Of course, disclaimers regarding it's-a-bad-loss, naturally-49er's-brass-is-going-to-be-upset apply. On the other hand, generalized and persistent rumors regarding 49er locker room dissatisfaction and 49er administration dissatisfaction remain. Together, I take the foregoing to mean that the kettle is starting to boil in SF.
My only hope is that Michigan's AD and Office of the President can get their respective acts together in time to make a play for Harbaugh.
Because it appears they will get a chance.

Why? Why remind us of the grammatical horrors that this entire generation of internet forum spelling weaned youngsters have unleashed upon the world and us?

My family has been doing that to each other for generations.
Your age is showing, my friend. "Damn youngsters, grumble grumble."
Resisted baiting with a "you're" btw.

Fire Harbaugh. He's failed at SF. 3 consecutive NFC title games is not good enough.

LOL! (SF's loss is our gain!)

As a niners fan, this made me laugh. Can't stand the front office, but I would be thrilled if Harbaugh came to Michigan.

For those of you on here who are Lions fans, anyone care to recount for the board how you felt about Harbaugh after his run-in with Jim Schwartz?
I'm a 49er fan, and I recall a lot of bitching and moaning about how classless Harbaugh is after that! But I watched last night without great displeasure. Bringing JH back to Michigan is of the utmost importance!!!

I saw that the GM "daughter's" twitter account is now gone. So it was either fake or she suddenly decided to delete her twitter account;; based on her age that would seem unlikely.
And overall if this was a normal situation, Mr. Roman would be exiting stage right at the end of the season as an otherwise excellent coach retools an offense that has lost its mojo. Lions coaches have been given extensions (looking at you Wayne!) for similar records 12 games in.
It's all a bit surreal.

Her father confirmed it was her twitter account. He and she apologized for the tweet and they deleted the account.

"Greg Roman can take a hike. The 49ers don't want you no more."
My guess is she's heard her dad talking at the dinner table.

The Niner's GM's daughter is tweeting stuff like that?
Can you imagine if Dave Brandon's had a teenage daughter and she had been tweeting stuff like that about Al Borges last year? Ok yeah I can imagine it because with Dave Brandon, nothing is too crazy to be possible, but geez that would have been awful. Even Brandon didn't manage to trash his own coaching staff (for the most part).
November 28th, 2014 at 11:21 PM ^
If Brandon's daughter had tweeted that, I'd have had more respect for Brandon. Kind of like if Hackett's daughter tweeted something like that about Hoke. Ball don't lie...

It's kind of amazing to see how positively everyone is taking what is basically amounting to a flame out in San Francisco, if the interpretation of these reports we're assuming is correct. It is getting so bad there that they want nothing to do with a coach who took them to a Super Bowl and two NFC Championship games in his three seasons there, how does that not raise some red flags?
November 28th, 2014 at 7:44 PM ^
Because Jim Harbaugh at Michigan would essentially have total control over all aspects of the football program. Aside from a nosy AD (now out of the picture) causing problems, an egomaniacal control freak can work out swimmingly in college ball. See: Saban, Nick.

John Edward 'Jed' York (born c. 1980) is an American sports executive, the son of Marie Denise DeBartolo York and John York, and the CEO (and formerly President) of the San Francisco 49ers. He is also the nephew of former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward J. DeBartolo Jr.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame earning a Bachelor of Arts in Finance and History.
York began his working days as a financial analyst for Guggenheim Partners at their New York City offices. York and his family initially intended for him to stay in New York in order to further his education with a Master's degree. However, when the 49ers brought in Mike Nolan to be head coach, it was decided that would be the best time to also bring York into the organization and prepare a several year transition of leadership.
He began his career with the San Francisco 49ers as the Director of Strategic Planning and then as Vice President of Strategic Planning in which he managed the integration of brand strategies and projects related to the long-term operational and financial development of the organization.
While I'm still skeptical that JH wants to leave the NFL for college, my hunch is that he loathes people like Jed York and Denise DeBartolo, who started their careers at the top due to the circumstances of their birth and family connections and not actual achievements.
The DeBartolo family has extensive ties to Notre Dame, which leads me to think they'll try to replace Harbaugh with Brian Kelly.
November 28th, 2014 at 8:20 PM ^
1) It's a different level of football. Whether Jim succeeds or fails in the NFL ultimately has little bearing on how he'll do in college, if he returns.
2) 49ers ownership is clearly pretty dumb.

it's not like we have any evidence that Harbaugh can successfully run a college football program. /s

It's a garden-variety case of the downside of inherited wealth and position.
November 28th, 2014 at 8:21 PM ^
I have wondered about this as well. Still, I think that in light of how good he was at Stanford, this is just a case of not being a NFL guy.

Because our fanbase is a very delusional one. This is the same fanbase that basically proclaimed Nussmeirer as a savior. This is the same fanbase that proclaims Michigan is going to win 10 games every year and compete for a Big Ten title. This is the same fanbase that ignores the fact we haven't won a Big Ten title in a decade. This is the same fanbase that proclaims MSU is about to fall off the face of the earth and we are going back to the Big 2 little whatever. This is the same fanbase that proclaims our players are Heisman contenders after one or two games. We are delusional. We are what ND was a few years ago.
November 28th, 2014 at 9:58 PM ^
Well ND did find a good coach
November 29th, 2014 at 12:31 AM ^
Michigan remains the team with the greatest college football tradition, the winningest program, the best uniforms, biggest stadium, best fight song, biggest alumni base and best fans. For all the trauma of the last 8 years, Michigan still recruits at an elite level.
Thus, Michigan fans are allowed to set high expectations for the program and to have high hopes. What you misinterpret as delusional is simply a high standard we wish never to relinquish, and openly express a hope for.
We all know the program sucks right now, but we had a senior Devin Gardner going into this season, and we thought the root of the problem was Borges, and that Nuss would be the solution - for the O line, and for the offense. Nothing delusional to think that was the case. It was a hope. No one thought national championships were in the cards.
Turns out the root of the problem was Hoke - a dinosaur coach cut from the Michigan coaching cloth of the last 30 years that thinks a predictable offense can win as long as it executes, and also can't happen to even coach execution whatsoever.
The program will eventually hire right, and will be back to the top of the Big Ten. If you don't believe that will happen after the next hire or two, Iowa is always a great team for you to take your loyalties to.
November 29th, 2014 at 2:14 AM ^
While the root problem ultimately is Hoke, turns out the fans, media, bloggers, former players who pressured him to fire Borges weren't the sharpest knives in the Michigan football kitchen.
November 29th, 2014 at 5:57 AM ^
Backup Foo... This is also the same fanbase that is ready to grab the pitchforks and torches at the first sign of trouble.
This is also the same long-suffering fanbase which has supported the team and players through dark times.
All kinds of folks with all kinds of opinions in this fanbase.
BTW ND was in the championship game not too long ago so... you're an optimist too apparently.
Much pain and inner-conflict I see in you. Get a puppy.

He shouldn't give a f***" about the suits. Are you looking at the picture of the douchenozzle up above? Why should he care about that guy? That guy ran a pathetic, craptacular football team until he brought in Harbaugh. Then Harbaugh fixed his team and took them to the Super Bowl Now CEO douchenozzle is pissed that the football coach is getting all the credit that is rightfully his.
The only reason you ever care about the suits is because they pay the bills. And when you are a highly sought after resource like Harbaugh, well f*** 'em. If the a**hole you work for is so unbelievably stupid that he doesn't want you around, then let him fire you and go find somewhere better to work. Harbaugh has the power here, not Mr. Stupid Suit.
Guys like York are born into their situation and have no actual qualifications other than being born rich. You could replace him with anyone and it wouldn't be a loss at all. It's much MUCH harder to find a coach that can get you to the Super Bowl.
