OT: Movember
Dear community, I'm taking a guess that everyone here is either a male or knows someone that is. In the spirit of looking out for one another, I hope you take the time to consider November's place as Men's Health Awareness Month. Believe me, I gave all due respect to saving the ta-tas last month.
I have an uncle that's a survivor and a grandfather that wasn't. I'm in the process of growing what will most likely be the world's shittiest mustache, but I'm doing it none-the-less. We all have our causes that we try to sprinkle a few dollars across, and this is one of mine. I hope you'll consider a suitable recipient of a few cups of Starbucks or that you'll grow a wicked 'stache to show your support.
May you and/or all the men in your life be well.
And, of course, Go Blue!

Last year, we did this company-wide and close to 400-500 people from VPs on down participated and we're hoping to do better this year. We also raised several thousand dollars as well and the company matched the contribution to research, which was very sweet of them.

I can't grow a mustache but my beard is Rick Ross-esque. So, I'm supporting that way. Don't plan on shaving for a while.

I'm doing the same thing. I've never tried to grow a beard, so this should be interesting. I have blonde hair so it's already looking quite...disgusting.
I'm hoping I'll end up just as hard as Jax in SoA...

Fuck cancer.
Sky blue is the color for prostate cancer awareness. My employer prefers no facial hair so I'll just wear sky blue whenever I can.

I'm sure that you've been shaving for a year now and cut yourself both times.

I think they are pretty much the same thing, right? As far as men's health awareness? The weird thing was when my wife said she was going to do no-shave November with me.

If I tried to grow a 'stache I'm worried I would look like this guy

So when did it become MoVember instead of No-Shave November?! Are they the same thing?!
I'll hang up and listen.

made the movember awareness campaign in 2004 and it took over in the last 2-3 years. fwiw, i hadn't heard of it until two years ago.

Yeah mustaches are awful... They don't look good on anyone ever except Carlos Spicyweiner and Tom Selleck and that was just because he had a Tigers cap on. Thousands of epic assholes have sported staches, from Saddam, to Hitler, to Teddy Roosevelt my God did he have body odor issues... Just because Old Spice wasn't invented yet was no excuse Ted. You can't spell "Theodore" without "odor."
I would have preferred Novembeard.

awareness campaign. one of the more vile examples of sexualizing something that has nothing to do with sex.
that being said, i cheated and utilized the remnants of my extremely long beard to create a ridiculous conquistador look.

That sentiment irks me because it tries to make it about how straight men feel about boobs, and not about, you know, people. As another poster said, it very much cheapens it.
That said, why bring it up at all? This isn't an "Us vs. Them" on cancer awareness. Just because one campaign is more successful doesn't cheapen the other.

mentioning how he paid proper respect to "save the ta tas" month rubbed me the wrong way.

Re-reading, I didn't make it clear. I was agreeing with you and trying to expand on your points. I had no issues with your post.

who is a breast cancer survivor wears the shirt. It's clever, though to your point, not universally appealing or appreciated. In my friends case, it's how she has chosen to support lightening a typically dark conversation.

Keep fighting.
And compared to the exams my missuz goes through, I can handle a little gloved-finger "fun" every few years.

please share so we've got an option for the board if so inclined to share some dollars.
And please tell your son thank you.

The board isn't a charity forum but a worthwhile cause will always be welcome. I don't know if you're aware mi93, but Michigan hockey participates in Movember. There are details on Twitter and I'm sure elsewhere.

Fuck "Movember", and fuck wearing pink for breast cancer awareness. I was actually reprimanded at work last year for refusing to participate in this nonsensical ritual.

if you're serious or just trolling. It's one thing to not participate, it's another to say fuck Movember or wearing pink. If you or someone you love ever has to deal with cancer you might change your tone asshole and appreciate the effort and money raised by others.

My dad has prostate cancer. No you guys have to understand, my Dad is probably the coolest guy I've ever met. I'm 34 years old and I can easily say that he's my best friend. The first time he was dx'd he did chemo and radiation which did what it was supposed to do. Then the cancer came back and he ended up having his prostate and bladder both removed. And if you were to see him in the street ( ask Seth ), you would never know it. He's 60 years old and absolutely a beast still. I spent all summer helping him cut, split and stack wood.
So Yeah I won't be shaving.
