ADC: Who do you want/Who will be the new Athletic Directo
AD Change: I guess its not premature anymore. Who do you want for the new A.D. and who do you think it will end up being.
I go Brad Bates for both due to the experience and the fact that he's a pretty mellow guy who stays out of the limelight. I'm dying to go back to the days where the AD is much like the longsnapper, someone who is doing his job best when you don't know his name.

Anyone but DB.
Jeff Long, AD at Arkansas.
October 31st, 2014 at 12:28 PM ^
If DB is actually gone, let's focus on the idea that we have a world-class Athletic Department and we deserve someone world-class. Just because a random person would be an improvement over DB in the PR department doesn't mean we should be happy with any random person. We deserve to have one of the best AD's in the country. Outside of Stanford, what other Athletic Departments have the breadth and depth of ours in the country?

I wonder if Stoops would ever consider coming with him. Now that would be a hell of a hire.

Have no problem with any of the rumored front-runners. I'd maybe prefer Long but agree that UM might want someone slightly less high-profile after Brandon. Hard for Long to do that as chair of the playoff committee

I know this site has said Jeff Long and Brad Bates are the top choices. 247 passed along info from other place saying UM is reaching out to Oklahoma's AD who is a Maryland grad, AD of the year last year, and hired Bob Stoops. Honestly, just as long as they are a succesful high level AD already, I'll be fine. And if they can hire Jim Harbaugh.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE Jeff Long. As long as he promises to never bring Bert Bielema back north of the Mason-Dixon.

Names that have been floated thus far:
The Favorites (all with M connections)
Brad Bates (BC AD)
Jeff Long (Arkansas AD)
Warde Manuel (UCONN AD)
The Darkhorses (no M connections)
Joe Castiglione (Oklahoma AD)
Greg Byrne (Arizona AD)
My personal favorite is Jeff Long, but we shall see... I think the odds-on favorite is Bates.

I was thinking Bates myself - I kind of like how he basically stepped in at BC, got rid of Spaziani and managed to get the football program redirected all while doing things as see saw fit and without too much distraction from people outside the process. It seems like he basically went to BC, did most of the major overhauls and has created a situation where - if he did leave - he's leaving that department in a much better state than he found it. I think that's key for us right now.

Name I’ve heard most for Michigan AD is Warde Manuel (UConn AD). But good source says watch for Joe Castiglione http://t.co/kerrKxTvcb

Castiglione is too hard to pronounce - kinda like Schembechler. Then again, Joe rhymes with Bo.
October 31st, 2014 at 12:28 PM ^
If Castiglione is the pick does Mark Stoops move up in probability to be the new coach? I don't see Bob leaving Norman, but Mark leaving Lexington is a real possibility.

seems like a red flag to me.

Jeff Long seems like a good choice to me, but doubt he leaves an SEC school. I'll take Brad Bates or Warde Manual...
October 31st, 2014 at 11:56 AM ^
I'll add to the initial question by asking - does Michigan have someone waiting in the wings, or will it take a while?

I've heard this guy has excellent credentials.

"We're thrilled to introduce our new athletic director, Brandon David."
October 31st, 2014 at 12:29 PM ^
Yeah, yeah, that's it. Mr....David. Welcome Mr. David.

Karsch seems to think it's a no brainer that Bates receives the first offer.
October 31st, 2014 at 11:59 AM ^
An AD with loads of filmroom experience.
October 31st, 2014 at 11:59 AM ^
Impressive and fits well with Schlissel's priorities.
On the other hand, maybe AZ ad could bring RR back . . . .

It's funny but, at the same time, I hate you for saying it.

Someone who gets it here in Ann Arbor and doesn't treat me like a disposable commodity and brings back the college atmosphere to our games. If one of the front-runners can do that, YES PLEASE!
October 31st, 2014 at 12:02 PM ^
A lot of the candidates raised thus far would be great and even the so-so guys are probably light years better than Dave Brandon. I'd prefer someone who understands how to advance the Athletic Dept without just corporatizing and "pro style"ing it which is all Brandon understood

Bring Brad Bates Back, Buddy
October 31st, 2014 at 12:04 PM ^
He is seasoned, well-educated, knows Michigan - but has been elsewhere for awhile, and seems like he has the right temperament. And he's the age where he could still serve at least 10 years. Long would be good too, but may be too busy with the playoff committee to be able to devote the time he will need to in the next few months to fix the mess here. Bates would accept readily I'd guess and be able to start very soon.

are my top two choices

Yeah, except Bob Bowlsby (the AD who hired Harbaugh) is the Big XII commissioner now, so I'm guessing he's not coming to A2.

Guided Louisville from the dregs of Div 1 football to heights Michigan can currenlty only dream about. Concurrently he rebuilt the entire Athletic Department and facilities at Louisville.

Papa John's Stadium. He also re-hired Petrino.
I agree Jurich is competent, but no thank you.

up against that of Michigan ADs over the same time period.
October 31st, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
If we're honest with ourselves, almost none of us has a clue who would be the best AD here. Even when people are citing these guys' records, it's typically based on a couple of coach hires, which has obvious sample size problems.
I know that I want the current guy out. Beyond that, I'll trust that Schlissel & co. will handle the search and selection well.
