OT: Why do they have State Troopers?
Because they can do this
Of course this was after the Alabama/Ole Miss game. Don't see that too often but at least it was not a coach hitting a player I suppose.

Got beat on the embed. Anyways, I've spent the past minute trying to see exactly how that guy got decked. He's got a good story to tell to his grandkids.

Saban is in the middle of a triangle of officers. The lead guy decks the fan. You can see his uniform pants and hat infront of Saban right before the hit. He really lowers the shoulders.

These are probably Alabama guys, too, I think. Teams do bring their own state's troopers, right?
EDIT: I see different uniforms, so maybe they're AL and MS.

and Alabama. Is it an SEC thing? Does Michigan take MSP when they play in Columbus?

Every other picture, I could find of end of game handshakes, shows at least two MSP officers around Hoke both Home and Away.

I'm sure there will be a "We'll miss you, Brady!" banner in the Horseshoe this year, probably in that ugly concrete pile in EL, too. It would be nice to finally once again have a Michigan coach who won't be "missed" by rival fanbases.

Oh, come on! It's not funny if you other guys take your embeds down!

Had I known we were going to make a thing out of it, I would've kept it up. As it were, I am a lazy individual and putting it back up now after the joke has been spoiled is much more effort than I can bear.

I really appreciate you guys doing the embed.
I just am trying to make a few smiles since everyone is in the dumps.
The ones with dark shirts are Alabama State Troopers. The one in the lighter colored shirt behind Saban I don't know about. That may be Mississippi or it may be a captain or something and they wear different shirts. I would guess MS if I had to because the patch on the left arm is different than the Alabama ones.

Soccer needs to go to instant replay to clean up this bloviation.

Funny thing to me is that Kaka, the guy in the yellow jersey, has been thrown out of multiple games because of players doing stuff like that to him.

Hooray unnecessary police brutality?
Seriously, are you celebrating this? Offering it up as a joke?
Is there another angle that makes this look like a justified use of force rather than a cop punching an excited person for no good reason?

For the split second that we somewhat see what's going on, it does appear that he seems caught off guard when he finds himself in front of some policemen and Saban. In other words, it could plausibly be a complete accident that he got in their way. But we don't know that; College kids also make stupid decisions and he may have been gunning for them all along.
Regardless, let's not forget that running onto a field or court, while it may be rite of passage, is technically not allowed and that by doing so, you maybe opening the door to punishment or bodily harm in some form or another. Not justifying someone harming another or attempting to shift blame altogether, but I'm saying it's something that can be potentially avoided by following the rules

The guy was running directly to Saban in a pretty chaotic situation. The cops prevented him from potentially hitting/tackling/spitting on/yelling at Saban. They are making split second decisions, and they cannot make out the intentions of some guy coming at the person that they are meant to protect. They did a good job here. If you are going to rush the field, stay away from coaches and players (especially from the opposing team).

Looks to me like he is going right at Saban. Intent cannot be determined, and cops responsible for getting Saban off the field safely cannot wait until the fan takes a swing at him before acting.
Don't want to get taken down by a state trooper? Stay off the field. Simple.

The only thing worse than taxpayer funded costumed goon squads are the statist apologists who think they are necessary.

As little abuses are normalized and tolerated the line of what is outrageous keeps moving further in the wrong direction. If this incident was considered outrageous might police be more likely to verify before no knock raiding the wrong house, or the house with kids, etc.
