I am not sure this will go well
September 27th, 2014 at 12:35 PM ^
You could make this same comment if Gardner was announced as the starter.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:40 PM ^
You could say the same thing if fucking Tom Brady started. It doesn't matter who's under center, we aren't a good football team.

September 27th, 2014 at 12:58 PM ^
So would a lot of things
September 27th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
Couldn't agree more if we had a guy like Hackenberg under center it would do wonders for the offense.
September 27th, 2014 at 3:38 PM ^
The unending hype train for Hackenburg is something I just don't get. He's been nothing but average his entire time at Penn State.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:09 PM ^
We have a lot of problems. QB is one of them. Just because it isn't the only problem or even the biggest doesn't mean you don't try to address it.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:15 PM ^
Where did I say we shouldn't address the quarterback position?

September 27th, 2014 at 12:59 PM ^
Tired of people piling on Shane. Why do we trash our own players?
We can now see what he can do as the starter, as opposed to just playing 1-2 series in garbage time. The one chance he had to do that before, in the bowl, he performed respectably. Now he's a year older and has a chance to get into the flow of the game. I think he'll have a solid outing.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:46 PM ^
the people bashing DG?
September 27th, 2014 at 3:08 PM ^
Yes, because fair would be to be as shitty to the backup as you are to the starter.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:02 PM ^
Let's just fucking win. Convincingly, please.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
I'm too broken to be picky about how it comes. Minnesota could forfeit and I'll take it.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:30 PM ^
My daughter's soccer team won via forfeit this morning. First thing I said to my wife..."maybe Minnesota won't show up for the game today."
September 27th, 2014 at 12:50 PM ^
let's just get in the fucking red zone!!!!

may be too high.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
In fact, the line started going up with the rumors of a QB change.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:15 PM ^
True freshman one pass completion.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:44 PM ^
I agree that the line is high because of the freshman QB, but that doesn't account for it changing during the week.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:25 PM ^
not the freshman.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:03 PM ^
That's not really what they said on Gameday. It was more of a prediction...maybe a factual prediction, but it certainly wasn't confirmed or substantiated.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:03 PM ^
They are all echoing each other. While it may be true that Morris is starting, not one of those stating as much are suggesting they have categorical evidence to support their statement.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:21 PM ^
Griese isn't echoing anyone. He talked to Hoke this morning:
Former Michigan QB Brian Griese says he spoke to Brady Hoke this morning and "fully expects" Shane Morris to start today.

Remember when Peppers was starting...but didn't.
I would hold off on comments until it comes directly from Hoke or it's the first offensive snap, whichever comes first.

September 27th, 2014 at 12:11 PM ^
He threw a bunch of 5 yard passes...with an OC who isn't even hear anymore.
Every other time he's played, he's been inconsistent. I mean l like change and I like hype, but it's not like he's shown flashes when he's gotten in that he's the answer.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:28 PM ^
I disagree with you here. First, let me say that Shane's overall performance has not been good. But I think that what's exicting about him is that he has shown flashes. That's the key with assessing young players, to me. They screw up all the time, throw interceptions, make bad reads, miss assignments. Fine. But they give you a glimpse of what's possible when they put it together. Shane has done that, in my opinion. He has a presence in the pocket that we haven't seen in a long time and he's shown that he can put a bullet on target. He has as bad an offensive line that you'll find anywhere in the nation, and that's gonna make it tough, but I think this kid will be a good quarterback for us. Maybe not today, but I'm excited to see what he can do.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:54 PM ^
I think that's the problem with the whole team. Nearly everyone has shown "flashes". Gardner has shown flashes, Green has showed flashes, hell, our O-Line showed flashes vs App St. We just need somebody, whether a player or a coach, to make those flashes a more consistent part of our play.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:14 PM ^
I agree with you. Except that a lot of our young players haven't even shown flashes. Inconsistency implies that sometimes you're doing a good job. And inconsistency is fine in young players, but you want to see it even out as they come into their third years or so.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:39 PM ^
Couldn't agree more, i am excited to see what Shane can do with some time and patience. He needs to get a shot so that we can determine if he is or isn't the future.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:49 PM ^
he may be the future no matter what
September 27th, 2014 at 1:03 PM ^
He threw those 5-yarders pretty accurately. 63% is pretty good for a true frosh making his career debut. More importantly, I thought he looked poised despite having to get rid of the ball quickly due to our horrific pass pro.
His outings this year were all in garbage time and really don't tell us anything - especially the last one in the monsoon.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:14 PM ^
He did what you expect a FR to do in their first start, and Borges deserves some credit for giving him a good game plan to protect him a bit. He's been spotty in relief, but so has Gardner in his time. He's also not as bad as his stats suggest. I'm not sure he's the answer either, but it's pretty clear to me that he deserves the start today given the situation.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:13 PM ^
I think he'll be fine, but let's not revise history by saying his first start was ok. It was not good and he has shown the same turnover issues that Gardner has. Hopefully we see some improvement today over a hapless Gophers team.
September 27th, 2014 at 12:23 PM ^
call another team hapless? I'm waiting for the student section to start chanting "Lets play basketball"
September 27th, 2014 at 12:43 PM ^
He completed 63% of his passes on a ton of attempts behind the worst offensive line in the country and rushed for 43 yards.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:51 PM ^
is what we got. Once he threw downfield in the second half--nada.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:58 PM ^
We scored 14 points - two FGs and a TD. That's our last TD against a Power 5 opponent incidentally.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:13 PM ^
By the 1:10 mark of the 4th quarter, I suspect I had emotionally checked out.
September 27th, 2014 at 2:36 PM ^
came on a scramble after KSU forgot about Shane and got caught on the wrong side of the field. Much like a similar ~40 yd scramble by John Navarre vs Iowa in 2002.

September 27th, 2014 at 12:44 PM ^
He doesn't have the same turnover issues as Gardner during his 1 full start. He through 1 interception late in the game during force-the-ball time.
His turnovers have come in a torrential downpour, and at the end of games during desperate or garbage times. The idea that "we know for a fact" Morris has the same huge turnover issues Gardner has is a myth perpetrated on this board to justify starting Gardner over a more prototypical quarterback.
September 27th, 2014 at 1:10 PM ^
I think a lot of people feel sorry for Gardner for what he's gone through, and I don't blame them - he's a fantastic representative of the school and has had some excellent individual games. I think it's really painful for them to envision him not starting in his senior year. But unfortunately, that's how it goes sometimes in sports.
