Harbaugh clearly wants to be an NFL coach.  The last three years have been incredible, but his flirtation with the NFL each year has sucked the joy out of it. If you've ever dated someone who didn't fully love you back, this is what it feels like.  No matter how much you love them there comes a point where you realize the relationship is unhealthy and you have end it.  It is time for Harbaugh to go.

At least we didn't get dumped like ND, MSU (Saban), Washington, Arizona, Oregon several times, FSU (Jimbo Fisher), Colorado (Tucker heh!) or countless other schools where the coach made a mostly lateral transition.  Harbaugh didn't pull a Bill Frieder.  He's still a Michigan Man.

...and at least we didn't lose Harbaugh through scandal like Florida (Meyer), OSU (Meyer), the Jaguars (Meyer), MSU (Tucker), wherever Bobby Petrino coached, PSU, etc.

Wow, that sounds so miserable. I haven't lost an ounce of joy from any of this, and it's really unfortunate if it that's genuinely the case for you. If so, I'm sorry; it's also not at all the fault of him, Michigan, or the job search.

It has not sucked any of the joy out of the last three years for me.  These have been the best three years of Michigan football that I have enjoyed in the 30 or so years I've been following.  If you want to let the anxiety of not knowing what the future holds suck the joy out of what just happened, that's on you and how you choose to live life.

Jim Harbaugh promised us a return to excellence and championships.  He delivered in spades.  He set up a program infrastructure that includes Coach Moore and Coach Herbert, and probably a few more key pieces.  He has developed a roster full of pre-season all-Americans going into next season.

If he ends up leaving, he will have done everything he set out to do.  Sorry it didn't include considering your feelings.

One last thing, can we just stop with the lazy analogy of GFs or wives banging other dudes.  Harbaugh looking at, quite frankly, more prestigious jobs in the NFL when the NCAA is unfairly trying to destroy his reputation isn't like your wife looking for a better husband while you are married.

If you want to make an analogy, its like us looking for a job when we work for the family business. Harbaugh is part of the Michigan Football family and he is currently CEO of the family business.  Would it hurt for him to leave--for sure.  But after the last nine years, especially the last three, we should want him to live his best life, even if it means moving on from us.

With all that, I haven't given up hope yet.  I think there is a decent chance he still stays, but no man knows the future.

Hard to believe there are folks out there who have had "the joy sucked out of" them because of JH's dalliances with the NFL.  Are you kidding me?

I am a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan, class of 1976.  Two out of my three daughters are also proud U-M alums.  The four years I attended Michigan, we were undefeated in the regular season against all schools not named Ohio State and 0-3-1 against the Buckeyes even though we outplayed them in all four games.

So, to be able to beat this Ohio State three years in a row after going 1-18 or whatever prior to that, and winning three outright B1G championships in a row, going to three playoffs and winning the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP this year, it doesn't get any better!!

I am not an alumnus of the University of Harbaugh, or Schembechler, or any other coach who temporarily has the honor of coaching my alma mater.  I am a Wolverine.  Which is great to be!!

If Jim leaves, so be it.  You all can mistakenly blame Warde or anyone else, if you want.  The truth is he will leave because he wants to be an NFL coach, not because of anything the University did or did not do.

If he stays, great, though I don't like all the drama, scrutiny, NCAA investigations that go along with him.  If he leaves, OK.  Either way, we will be fine.  They can never take away the last three years from us.  Nothing will ever "suck out" the joy of this.  Ever!!  GO BLUE!!

It's hard to believe there are people out there who aren't at all affected by this NFL thing, especially year after year. You say you're not an alum of the University of Harbaugh -- this is exactly why I'm salty. As an alum of the University of Michigan, I care about what happens at Michigan and to Michigan (arguably too much). So when someone does something that I don't think is in Michigan's best interest, it angers me, even if it's someone who just accomplished what Harbaugh did. I can be really happy about this season and at the same time, feel like some of that happiness has been sucked out by something that I don't think is good for Michigan. And it's weird that it's the same person who has contributed to both sides.

Perhaps I over stated.  The last three years during the season have been absolutely fantastic.  Every year after the season I want to gloat and be an arrogant Michigan grad shit talking my OSU and MSU friends about how we're going to beat them ad infinitum.  The NFL flirtations have sucked all of the joy out of that time period.  I want to gloat.    It is hard to gloat when you're staring at the void of the unknown.  Is Warde going to hire Rich Rod 2.0?    We were in the desert for so effing long.  I can't go back to that.    I'm making the classic MGoBlog mistake of doubling down (with caveats).  Harbaugh's NFL flirtation takes a lot of the joy out of the post NC gloating time.

I'm honestly happy that most of you are emotionally stable enough to separate the joy of the NC from the anxiety over the future of our team.  I am not.  I'm sorry.  Remember losing to Toledo?  ND 0-31?  Rutgers?

The transfer portal, realignment, NIL, tampering, pay-to-play, the administration of the B1G — those are the things that are sucking the joy out of college football for me.

Jim is doing what 98% of the readers on this board would do if they were in an analogous situation with their employer. I don’t think it’s fair to question his love for Michigan just because he’s exploring other options. He’s given more to this place than anyone on this board (maybe other than Brian) has.

and don't forget - to that amount added, robf is throwing in his old mountain bike and his cousin's snowmachine and ice fishing equipment.  should close the deal.

truth be told, i made that up. rob didn't offer his bike, i'd have to steal it from him.  and i don't even know if his cousin has a snow machine and ice fishing stuff, but i'm pretty sure he does.  i'd have to steal that stuff from him, too.  a life of crime to keep the coach.  if that's what it takes, so be it.

harbaugh did back off of the 'nervous bird' thing.  totally reversed course on that.

i would give him half a cow to stay, though, and i wouldn't have to steal that.  the cow might not like it so much, but sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.

Honestly, the "for cause" clause, from what I have read, seems eminently reasonable. All he wants is a panel of three people to review the "cause" vice just Warde getting to decide. Given everything that has happened, and what appears to be a likely contentious relationship, it is quite fair.

Give it to him.

This feels like damage control at this point.  "Look we tried" when Harbaugh takes the NFL job.  I'm not saying it is their fault but the timing of this is interesting.
