Coach answers it in pure Jim Harbaugh fashion

Mods: For the life of me, I can not figure out how to post the actual video embedded in the tweet or I would. All I can do is copy and paste the code for the tweet itself. Please add video if you are able to.

And yet, the level of dedication to the prep for playing this one opponent evinces respect for them, respect for this game and what it means to the team, the uni, the alums, the fans, the larger M diaspora. They wanted a fiery quote to stoke controversy but the subtext of JH’s comment is quietly reverential

I might get negged for this comment, but I think JH says the level of preparation that goes into beating OSU demonstrates a level of respect for that team. Clearly, if you thought the OSU was going to bring a patsy into AA every other year would you prepare every day to beat them?

That was as close to saying "No, I have absolutely no respect for Ryan Day whatsoever" as Harbaugh will ever get, short of physically saying those words in conjunction. At least that is what I took from listening to the sound bite an hour or two ago.

This rivalry was always personal for Harbaugh because obviously he's played in it, coached in it, but that was always within the context of it still just being a game. Like a "yeah I hate you but hey, we're all still adults here." kind of mindset.

But now, given what's happened the last month or so, with Harbaugh's very character and measure of who he is as a man being questioned, and who's standed to directly benefit from all this chaos, and given what he's already said out loud about Ryan Day in the past, I think this is now as personal to Harbaugh as personal can ever get.

A good friend of mine who is an incredibly smart woman, and very strong feminist once gave me these words of wisdom. “A person, man or woman, can 100% be, and be called a cunt. But never use that word that word when describing a part of a woman’s body.” I have ever since completely bought into this line of thinking.

My goodness - the prospect of a Harbaugh / Petitti trophy exchange is the only thing that has gotten me remotely calm after the hit-job the B1G has orchestrated against Michigan the last few weeks.  Harbaugh is the king of awkward moments, and with Roman Wilson standing next to him in a Free Harbaugh shirt...it will be glorious.  Gotta win this weekend, though!

That's exactly what I would expect from a laser-focused coach...he's not thinking about 'respect' that he may or may not have for another individual.  He's thinking about winning a conference championship and a national championship, and winning this GAME is one of the necessary stepping stones.   Like he said, every day, hour and minute, it's about their preparation.
