Amazon Prime Day
[ED - Reminder we get money if you use our Amazon link]
Has anyone found any amazing deals? I have been browsing a bit and haven’t found anything I can’t live without. Would like to get a record player but don’t want to spend a fortune. Also, would like a hammock w/stand but haven’t found any great deals on one.
What are you looking for or wanting to get?
Someone who can play the 4?
I think we have moved on to the 2/3 position perhaps an Austin Davis type off the bench?
Recommendations for a paddleball set?
Go shop at a local store instead
Definitely try to but there are not enough options anymore.
I wonder why?
I grow my own electronics.
Local stores... like, Best Buy or Walmart?
Refuse to set foot in a Walmart unless there is absolutely no other option.
I pay for a prime membership so I might as well take advantage of it.
I was just commenting that there really aren't that many "local stores" any longer the way people tend to imply. Ace Hardware, kind of. A bike shop here and there. But it isn't like there is a "Bill and Sue's General Store" down on Main Street anymore. You can go to the internet Big Box store or the physical Big Box store. Those are basically the options now, especially since 2020.
One good option I've found is that local libraries have great selection. You don't even need to use Amazon for physical bookes. ebooks, or audiobooks because they have everything. You might have to wait a few weeks, but I haven't searched for something I couldn't find. I have a book club meeting this weekend on a book that came out earlier this year and was able to grab a copy today.
"Wait a few weeks..." that's a good one! I wish we lived in a time where that was still a thing.
"Until the day when God will deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is contained in these two words, - 'wait and hope.'"
I love libraries. I will seriously just go to a library for a couple of hours when I just need things to make sense again if only for a while.
But not like Amazon. I bought a hardcover on the Beer Hall Putsch from the late 60’s for like $10. I can purchase UK copies(which generally come out before US copies) of books by British authors for a good price. As a result I have hundreds of unread books in my apartment.
That said, UM has one of the world’s finest libraries. My dad uses it extensively in his research for the books and articles he has written.
There are still a good number of general stores in northern New England, but they are indeed harder to find.
Until our kiddo was born in 2019 my wife taught elementary in a small Vermont town. They have a general store which also included the post office and bank. I remember they had/have a giant wheel of cheese from a local farm, from which you could just get a chunk cut for you.
Quite charming, albeit pricey.
Does she teach in the town's one-room school?
For those who might've wondered about what happened to "Bill and Sue", the Beach Boys might know.
Haven't set foot in a Walmart in 15 years. Plan to keep that streak going.
I hate Walmart, but they are RV friendly so they get my business on extended RV trips.
Only shop Wally world as a last resort.
When we are wintering in Texas, we have found the HEB chain to be very nice and a better option. We've come to prefer it over Kroger. Spec's liquor stores in Texas are the best, great prices and selection 🥃.
Shop at a local store is the same essential argument as "Buy American." The arguments against it are largely the same as well. I like to buy american and to shop locally, but if it is more convenient and cheaper to buy online or from another country I'm probably going to go the route that is more immediately better for me. The upside and downside of capitalism is instant gratification.
I just don't get that much gratification from buying a thing I don't really need and having it show up a day or two later. I'm convinced the reason we all hate each other now is because we just sit inside and avoid human interactions like talking to a clerk at a store.
I don't really think we all actually hate each other now, I just think certain people gain from making us think we all do.
Bet who do we hate more? The people that would chip away at our freedoms, or the people that would take away our freedoms in one fell swoop, or Ohio State?
I don’t think those three groups are really distinguishable.
I don't think people really hate each other all that much, only a cynical bunch of people have figured out they can make money telling people everything is terrible.
Also, I generally don't buy stuff I don't need, but when I need, say, a pair of 1 3/4" swing hangars and my local hardware store doesn't have them there aren't a ton of artisanal options.
I just don't get that much gratification from buying a thing I don't really need and having it show up a day or two later.
True, but those things that show up in a few hours? Different story!
People have always fought. Especially over politics. My avatar got into a fight over William Howard Taft at a polling station. He brought the Italian way of politics to America.😂
Harder to shop local when the people in charge of our economy are bleeding us dry. Many here are well-off, most people are not, those few dollars can make a huge difference. (this comment is not directed at any particular political party)
Big box stores are unfortunately hard to avoid but for books, at least, I have a small independent bookstore near me where I buy everything.
I buy so little on Amazon I'm not qualified to write reviews on products (apparently you have to buy at least $50 worth of stuff a year?).
Like Costco!
Are there any illicit drugs for sale via Prime? That's what I am looking for or wanting to get.
When and if weed ever becomes federally legal you may be able to get it from Amazon. I personally like going to the dispensaries.
Get over here before I do all of this myself.
Omw. Only if I can snort it off your you know what though.
wait. how do you get a 'monkey on your back' if you're the monkey? seems circular.
too much coke, and too much smoke. oak tree you're in my way...
I always wondered what'd be like to sing a song like that when the subject, your bandmate, was just a few feet away playing guitar.
Poor chimp, having to drink that nasty stuff.
He doesn't know any better.....
I know a guy
I was gonna look today on Amazon too but last time I checked we had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into locked a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
Roadtrip to Vegas, eh?
You know, speaking of this overplayed purchasing habit - I was just telling my wife that I need to buy some warehouse shelving units to store the unopened boxes that are accumulating around the house...
Found my wife a Samsung Galaxy Watch that was $180 off normal price.
Saving that for her bday in October.
Reading can be entertaining if you skim.
Though not particularly interested in sale days, I was hopping through the responses and saw:
"Found my wife."
In the Amazon?
Don't worry; there's an AtoZ promise. That way, you can return her for free if the product description is wrong.
Unfortunately, past the end date for a return. LOL JK!
She is not going to be happy when she sees this joke while snooping through your various accounts...
How long is the warranty, and what options would you get?
