Davison Igbinosun:6’2 cornerback in transfer portal from Ole Miss who visited Michigan on Sunday gets a crystal ball to Ohio State
January 30th, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
Probably has to do with he can't transfer to Michigan till spring but can immediately to osu
January 30th, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
What is that about?
January 30th, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
OSU has an unusual academic calendar. Their Fall and Spring semesters are split into two sessions I believe so he would be able to register for the second session of the Spring semester.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:52 PM ^
OSU is on quarters not semesters. All Ohio schools were on quarters then the state government voted a law to force all state schools to switch to semesters. OSU complained and they changed the law to exempt OSU.
Disclaimer: I was at Toledo, when this happened. It was a mess. I taught the last numerical science class in the engineering dept as a quarters class. It was full because for those who didn’t take it, they had to retake a class that would contain what I taught.
January 30th, 2023 at 5:03 PM ^
Not sure where you got this information from. I live in Columbus. OSU has been on semesters for 10 or 11 years.
January 30th, 2023 at 7:56 PM ^
But it's two semesters each split into two sessions. For the purposes of this discussion, does it matter if you call it "quarter" or "second session of the Spring semester?"
January 30th, 2023 at 10:56 PM ^
there are half semester courses but I didnt realize one could enroll mid semester. a second half semester course that one could enroll in after the window at the beginning of the semester would be problematic for the school....having to bill tuition and/or fees again mid semester. there is no mid semester tuition deadline that I could find. as far as I can tell u would have to register for the class by the first friday of the semester. One can drop a second half class 2 weeks after it starts, but I cant find any last registration day except at beginning of semester. certainly could be wrong, but I have noone to ask this late at night.

I work at a small university and we do have what we call "mod 1" and "mod 2" classes: they are eight-week courses that are either from the beginning of the semester to mid-term, or mid-term to end.
That said, not everything is offered on that model, and the credit hours also vary. It would be very difficult to be a full-time student taking only mod-2 courses. Maybe OSU (and other R1s) have a large enough offering that you could do this, but if scholarship is dependent upon being a full-time student, jumping in mid-semester and carrying a full-time course load based on credit hours would be very difficult to do.

Where do you work? I'm going to start in the OR in March. CRNA.

/edit
You clearly weren't talking to me. I'll show myself out.

in the center still
January 30th, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
Monkey - good point. I believe the Drop / Add date for the winter semester has passed in A2. And, with the academic rigor in Columbus - he probably has another two months to enroll in a video class - perhaps on Ethics - taught by Tressel and Meyer.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:21 PM ^
I remember reading that. Once again, non football related circumstances doom yet another key contributor for Michigan sports.
January 31st, 2023 at 3:13 AM ^
Santa Ono to the rescue?
January 30th, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
This x100. Because of the OSU academic calendar, he can register for OSU Spring classes and participate in Spring ball. If he were to transfer to Michigan, he would not be able to register until Summer.
January 30th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
I certainly can’t begrudge a young student athlete who wants to start his education earlier. Wait what?
January 30th, 2023 at 5:23 PM ^
They haven't been on the quarter system in a decade...
January 30th, 2023 at 5:50 PM ^
No dog in this fight, but while the academic calendar speaks of two semesters, each semester is broken into two sessions. Isn’t that just quarters by another name?

January 30th, 2023 at 5:38 PM ^
Lol. Here it is. If a guy doesn't seem to be going to Mochigan it has to be something other than they may just like another program better
January 30th, 2023 at 6:47 PM ^
Nobody is advocating for a young man going to Mochigan.
January 30th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
This makes me nostalgic for the days of unending OSU-related dong punches. Nicholas Petit-Frere comes to mind.
January 30th, 2023 at 7:10 PM ^
Oh well. Aidan Hutchinson made him live up to the English translation of his name.
January 31st, 2023 at 9:58 AM ^
He definitely should have gone to MSU.
January 30th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
It wouldn't be a lie, he would be practing against 5 star wrs but have that helped the other dbs there
January 30th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Lol, good point and username checks out.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
They’ve got some good ones in the nfl. Much better than ours…
January 30th, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
Michigan has done a better job of developing DB talent.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
Oh? Please remind me of any pro bowl corner backs we’ve produced under harbaugh.
January 30th, 2023 at 5:03 PM ^
not sure we've really produced any pro bowl players.. period... hutch probably gets there soon enough. maybe ojabo?
Remember, stars dont matter - except that taking a 4-5 star guy and making him a top 10 pick (hello georgia) is going to win out in MOST cases over taking 3 star guys and making them all big 10. Just is... I'm very happy with our season though the end was devastating ... but the fact remains that when a team like georgia is well coached with 5 star talent everywhere, it will beat the 3 stars who are "coached up".
Dax Hill is starting in the NFL, but i'm not sure he's a pro bowl type player... (recalling one of our few 5 stars)
January 30th, 2023 at 5:12 PM ^
Just look at the NFL OSU DB’s, they’re better than ours… try to be objective.
lattimore is the best of all between the two teams. With OSU having a lot more first and second rounders than UM. Facts man, facts
January 30th, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
Didn’t seem to help them much recently
January 30th, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
Sure it did, it got them drafted higher and thus more money. I’d say that’s the goal coming out of college…
January 30th, 2023 at 6:46 PM ^
He meant in the game, when, you know...we kicked their ass
January 30th, 2023 at 7:01 PM ^
We sure as shit did! Still doesn’t change the fact that they’ve put better and more DB’s into the NFL than us…
January 30th, 2023 at 7:33 PM ^
Yes but it’s not like we’re putting out scrubs either. David Long and Jourdan Lewis have had pretty good NFL careers. Dax Hill didn’t see much action. Peppers has had an ok career. I’m sure I’m missing someone else.
January 30th, 2023 at 7:51 PM ^
Lol peppers has sucked. Jourdan is a nickle and Long has been #3 most of his career. While yes any extended period of time on an NFL roster is a good career they aren’t exactly lighting it up.
we have no #1 cb produced. Plain and simple. Meanwhile OSU does. And more success across the board, which is my point.
January 30th, 2023 at 8:26 PM ^
And they’ve spent the past 3 years getting cooked in their biggest games. Seems more relevant to me
January 30th, 2023 at 8:34 PM ^
LOL and ours haven’t? Almost 400 yards is kinda getting cooked…. And let’s not talk about the don brown years. We won the game, but not because our DB’s were better than theirs… cmon now
January 30th, 2023 at 8:37 PM ^
CJ stroud threw for 394 yards in 2021, 350 in 2022, and 2 of their receivers had 7 catches and averaged 14 yards per… facts
January 31st, 2023 at 3:15 AM ^
Cornelius Johnson would still be running.
January 30th, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
I can see them pitching that he would be practicing every day against 5 star wide receivers in practice.
I can see them pitching "our secondary got absolutely massacred by Michigan and you can start right away." But seriously, this would be a huge loss. If we get him, he would probably give us our most complete defense in recent memory
January 30th, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
Michigan will be fine without him...perhaps better with him???
January 30th, 2023 at 4:06 PM ^
Michigan will be fine without him...though perhaps better with him???
January 30th, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
I draw the line at upvoting you twice.
January 30th, 2023 at 4:49 PM ^
You would think being the last piece of the puzzle would provide incentive.
Some kids are just OSU guys.
Experience and depth are important but I expect one of our young guys will step up.
January 30th, 2023 at 3:55 PM ^
That sucks. That'd be some Bosa-level creep. I hope it isn't true. Remember when the older Bosa came here on a recruiting trip specifically to troll us?
January 30th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
Sam suggesting on the board that he's likely going to OSU. That's too bad, but our player development has been great, so I'm excited to see who emerges from the CB room
January 30th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
WIIIIIIIDDDEEEEE OPEEEENNN RECEIVER
-Gus Johnson voice
January 30th, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
In my head, I sang this to the tune of Wide Open Spaces from the Dixie Chicks. Or just Chicks or whatever they're calling themselves.
