Will be interesting to see if the agenda driven AP writers concur with the coaches.
October 16th, 2022 at 5:42 PM ^
Coaches have agendas too.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:17 PM ^
Rational view. Terrific, dominating win yesterday. Thanks for posting.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:17 PM ^
OP couldn't bother adding a link. Sheesh.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:20 PM ^
Also, OP buried the lede: we got our first first place vote!
October 16th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
You're welcome!
October 16th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
Let it be James Franklin
October 16th, 2022 at 6:08 PM ^
You mean Frames Janklin, right?😉
October 16th, 2022 at 2:47 PM ^
No, because the title say it all!
October 16th, 2022 at 1:18 PM ^
You'd think some serious doubt might start to creep in about OSU, considering their best win is against LOLND.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:27 PM ^
By SP+ it might be #35 Wisconsin (ND is #43). But watch out, they have #28 Iowa (in the shoe, natch) this week!
October 16th, 2022 at 2:02 PM ^
It's going to be fun to watch and see how much the Iowa defense challenge Stroud & Co. While I expect an OSU win, I'm really hoping Iowa gives them a good game, at least on one side of the ball.
October 16th, 2022 at 10:19 PM ^
By years end people are going to wonder if OSU played 12 home games.
ND michigan Iowa Wisconsin…. i really cant think of any other teams worth noting.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:18 PM ^
Someone was going on and on in the evening thread about how anyone who thought we'd be ahead of Tennessee must be a huge Michigan homer. Turns out there are apparently a lot of Michigan homers voting in the coaches' poll.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
Right, where are all of the people here that were saying Michigan would drop below Tennessee and even Alabama?
October 16th, 2022 at 1:35 PM ^
There are 3 points separating Michigan and Tenn in that poll. It's the closest margin in the top 10.
Let's not do any "I told you so"s yet.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
Let us hope they drop so you can be happy.
October 16th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
I don’t think Stig is negging Michigan with his comment. Rather, I think he’s observing that the coaches thought it was really really close. Nothing wrong with that.
Besides, the only poll that any of us should really care about is the CFB poll when it comes out. The AP and the Coaches poll really mean nothing at this point other than to give the CFB voters a starting place. I’m fine with Michigan being in the conversation at 3 or 4.
October 16th, 2022 at 2:46 PM ^
Your reading comprehension sucks.
There is nothing, LITERALLY nothing, in that post which is indicative of my happiness or my support of Michigan one way or another.
How did you get into U of M with such a shitty verbal SAT score?
Rather, I was responding to the sentiment that there's surprise that Tennessee didn't jump Michigan. Which is a completely reasonable opinion one might have given national SEC bias and well, historical BPONE.
I responded with a data point to illustrate that almost happened.
Keeping it real and still being a fan don't have to be mutually exclusive. I imagine your happiness is (ironically) affected -- hence your shitpost, because you don't have the emotional intelligence to separate the two.
October 16th, 2022 at 5:45 PM ^
I was one of those people. I’m surprised and happy to be wrong.
Which illustrates why I don’t bet on college football. I’d get clowned.
October 16th, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
The house always wins.
Out of the entire Fox crew, only one is above .500.
October 16th, 2022 at 6:28 PM ^
Right, where are all of the people here that were saying Michigan would drop below Tennessee and even Alabama?
Voting in the AP poll.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:19 PM ^
Didn't see that coming....but I'll take it! Honestly, Tennessee is undefeated and has the best win of the season so I thought they'd be higher.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
If that is the criteria, shouldn't we be 2 behind #1 TN? What is OSU doing up there above us? There is a narrative out there that our win is never good enough, but OSU win against ND better than ours.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:40 PM ^
I've been saying the same for weeks now.
There's no objective measurement this year that says OSU deserves to be ranked higher than Michigan.
Michigan is defending B1G champs.
Michigan last won in H2H.
Any mental gymnastics ties in voter thought processes should go to Michigan until Nov 26.
And in the other poll, Clemson being ranked of Michigan is asinine. Clemson has struggled every single game. TBF, Clemson did finally start playing good ball in the second half against FSU, got a 20 point lead, only to piss it away and make it close.
I would LOVE to see Michigan play Clemson. This Michigan front 7 would give Uiagalelei permanent, life-long, nightmares.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
Agree. No idea why they dropped UM behind Clemson.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
Spelling that D lineman‘s name would give me nightmares.
October 16th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
Good points, but the important thing is M will have an opportunity to go down to Columbus and demonstrate why they should be ranked higher. If M takes care of business, they'll be in the playoffs. Just win baby.
Tennessee is the beneficiary of the SEC bias. Would not surprise me again to see 2 SEC teams in the playoffs. That's the way it'll be until something changes. M and/or OSU is going to have to win it all a couple times to break their stranglehold.
October 16th, 2022 at 2:41 PM ^
If M takes care of business, they'll be in the playoffs. Just win baby.
I don't trust the system.
The playoffs could easily be UGA, Tenn, Bama, and Clemson.
October 16th, 2022 at 5:20 PM ^
These things have a way of working themselves out. Fun game but I’m still not buying Tennessee as a top 4 team. Their defense got torched for 49 points at home and that’s not a vintage Alabama team. Very reminiscent of the 2000 Michigan @ Northwestern shootout. I think they’ll get stomped by Georgia.
Root for Kentucky over Tennessee, anyone who plays Bama and obviously for Michigan to keep rolling.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:04 PM ^
1. Last year doesn't (or shouldn't) count for the polls (as fraudulent as they currently are)
2 Voters can and will use the eye test...which is not accurate...BUT OSU seems to have the best and most efficient offense this season (they also did last season). There is no question. They SEEM to have figured out the defense thing as well, although their secondary is very suspect.
3. Lets not pretend that we have played the toughest schedule either. Our FPI SOS is #73 and theirs is #82.
October 17th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
and on point number 2...
OSUs offense is so efficient, that their kicker has only 2 fieldgoals this year, to 41 XtraPoints (with 19 punts)
Our offense is efficient as well...BUT
13 field Goals to 36 Xtra Points (same amount of punts)
October 16th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
Tennessee has the best win of the season
Is UT's 3-point win over #6 Bama better than Georgia's 46-point win over #9 Oregon?
Yeah, it's Bama, and Bryce Young is clearly an amazing QB. But this doesn't look like a vintage Bama team.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:20 PM ^
Still bizarre to me that after we kicked Ohio State’s ass up and down the field last year the voters still reflexively keep them ahead of us. Not that it matters of course
October 16th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
They're still getting the benefit of their so-called top 5 win over ND, even though ND has turned out to be a total fraud.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
Right? I get that Stroud was a more well-known quantity than either Cade or JJ, but I've yet to see any evidence that their overall roster is better than ours. I'd take our running game over their passing game tomorrow, and especially in late November.
October 16th, 2022 at 4:23 PM ^
Well, OSU is higher in many fancy stats (SP+, etc) and many folks consider last year an anomaly after a long series of OSU wins.
Doesn’t matter - UM gets to decide the narrative in Columbus.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:23 PM ^
Oregon being ranked ahead of UCLA makes zero sense.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
Hell Oregon being ranked over USC is a bit suspect imo
October 16th, 2022 at 1:36 PM ^
If Lincoln Riley had a decent offense he'd probably be in the Top 4 today. But that could be said about his time at Oklahoma too.
EDIT: opps, defense
October 16th, 2022 at 1:51 PM ^
Well it's kind of important to be good on both sides of the ball.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:29 PM ^
Agreed. I don't mind not-penalizing a team for going out of their way to play at (basically) Georgia, but you do have to penalize them for losing 49-3
October 16th, 2022 at 1:37 PM ^
The Vols getting 2 first place votes is a joke. Let's see how their defense holds up when they play Georgia and that game will be at Georgia. They also have to get by a tough KY team.
The other wait and see will be how the CP Committee ranks them in a few weeks. They like the teams that are more balanced.
The Vols will need to show me more on defense before I buy into their hype.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:37 PM ^
UCLA is at Oregon next week. A continuing chance at the playoffs is riding on that one.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
The one first place vote has to be the Penn St SID, right?
October 16th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
Expecting the AP will move Bama up to No. 1, because Bama.
October 16th, 2022 at 1:25 PM ^
Certainly 1B, at least.
