Nick saban on NIL money

Submitted by MDH68 on January 9th, 2022 at 5:05 PM

Nick Saban was asked his thoughts on NIL. He thinks it good that kids can make money,Says they always could. He is concerned that NIL money is getting out of hand and needs to be regulated. He said this will only cause a bigger disparity in collge football.

Is Nick truly concerened or aftaid this is cutting into his peice of the pie. Such as Texas am bringing in monster class.

The real question is who would regulate it?  And then, who would enforce punishment for those that break whatever rules are in place?  The NCAA I’m assuming?  Do I need to ask anymore questions?

College football has been broken for about 15 years and NIL has existed for less than one and has spread out talent more than any other measure in the same time frame. Michigan’s players have donated their NIL money and used it for community service, and oh, we beat Osu, won the big ten, and made the playoffs all in one year. What could you possibly be upset about?

TAMU's advantage in NIL will be a very temporary one. None of those big SEC programs is short of boosters eager to chip in or would accept anything less than maximum efforts to get the best recruiting class. It's always going to be an arms race down there.

Yeah, imagine if the same one or two teams got all of the best recruits every single season for more than a decade straight. Can you guys just imagine how terrible that would be for college football?

Nick is just concerned that NIL will allow recruits he'd normally pick up to go other places, so it actually will probably help even things out at least on the field of play. Just don't look at the numbers.

". . .will only cause a bigger disparity"--this is obvious. Can Michigan somehow take advantage despite this? I have my doubts. There is too much ambivalence at the top.

I guess the issue with "regulation" is just that the "good guys" might obey the rules, leaving room for people who are already willing to be shady under the current circumstances to continue doing that. I do wonder if we get some kind of "league minimum" at bigger name schools eventually like they have in pro leagues, but I don't see why anyone would willingly handicap themselves as it is.

Kids not only want NLI money, they want NLI money and the opportunity to be surrounded by other great talent and to get a high level of exposure by playing in the CFP every year so they can get drafted and make even bigger money. Trust me, Saban ain't worried. NLI is only going to create animosity on teams as a select group of players get rich and the supporting cast on the team stays where they are. It is the beginning of the end of college football as we know it.

lol he just wants to regulate it so he can break the regulations and get an edge again. Texas A&M must have him scared.

When the Big 10 powers IE Michigan, Psu, Osu, Nebraska attack the NIL on the same level the sec does, you can bet new rules will be put in place.

The bs is the sec has controlled everything regarding cf rules for a long time..

The sad thing is the NCAA isn’t smart enough to take control from the SEC.  NCAA could easily expand the CFP, set the rules and make it to be far more even in CF.  You want the East, Midwest and West coast involved in CF and esp the CFP.  No one cares about Bama Georgia cfp, they played that game over a month ago.  But set a cfp that invites the country and enforce the rules make them equal across all conferences and you will see a playoff that includes a pac 12 team, big10 team, sec and ACC.. An 8 or 12 team playoff and.  Go

The sec is running the NCAA so when the Big Ten schools fully adopt NIL like the SEC has then we will see rules changes..  aTm has admitted to a university coordinated approach to recruiting and NIL money directly from boosters which is what this was supposed to prevent. Nothing, why because we know the rest of the SEC is doing it and no way on earth do they stop it till they get beat at their own game.

I feel like I could have anticipated this when the NCAA just said "screw it" and implemented this with very little guidance following the court case.

They really should have been prepared to have their hand forced but it seems like they got caught totally off-guard and had nothing.

He said this will only cause a bigger disparity in college football.

The scales will tilt toward Texas.
But the States without big football money....
