2022 4* F Gregg Glenn committing on October 4th
Will be interesting to see how this plays out with Traore, Reed, and Smith visiting this weekend. Seems like we might be giving them a week to make decision before Glenn gets the green light to commit
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:49 AM ^
What's his middle initial? If it's G he's a take, 100%
3G, what a great handle!
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
If his middle name starts with an A, perhaps we should pass…
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:56 AM ^
I believe his full name is Gregg Gary Gordon Gavin Glenn or 5G to his friends.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:03 AM ^
5G is light years ahead of 3 & 4 G, so that's pretty awesome
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
5G is FAKE NEWS!!!! It doesn't exist!!! It lets Gates eavesdro...
::Oh, wait. Wrong thread. Sorry, carry on...::
September 22nd, 2021 at 8:25 PM ^
If he has two middle names and both start with an E and R, he is most definitely a take cuz wet love our gergs!
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:58 AM ^
I wonder if they expect additional attrition to free up another scholarship, or if Juwan is entertaining to possibility of having Jett as a walk on option if Glenn and Traore both commit? I know there was talk of Jace being a walk on when he committed, but then a scholarship became available.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:45 AM ^
Jett is not coming on as a walk-on, just stop lol.
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:52 PM ^
Aren't scholarships now just a base salary and NIL is the bonus? If we tip the scales enough, can't we just make everyone extra a "walk-on" and then pump them full of ungodly amounts of NIL instead? Seems like we won't even need to think about these archaic "NCAA limits" soon...
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:33 PM ^
If he's on "scholarship" or his dad pays for his tuition, what's the difference? Ditto for Jace. I don't see why that's at all outlandish.
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:00 PM ^
It's not outlandish, and I'm sure it would only be until they had another scholarship available. The best players are going to play, whether they are on scholarship or are a "walk on". I guess some think there is a stigma of being labeled a "walk on". Bottom line is by going the "walk on" route, he would be helping the team and his pops. Most kids need the scholarship money, but he does not.
September 22nd, 2021 at 3:04 PM ^
Why should Jace or Jett have to "help the team" by being a walk-on and no one else should? If they have earned the right to be scholarship players, then they can and should be.
The best players are going to play, but the best players are also scholarship-players.
Whether or not the Howard boys need the scholarship money or not doesnt matter. That's not how you run a D1 program. D1 bball and football scholarships are not need-based, they are skill-based. And what if Juwan doesn't pay for everything for them? What if he had them earn their own scholarships or pay their own way instead of expecting help? Would that then all of the sudden mean Jett can get a scholarship according to you because he would "need it?"
We have and have had numerous sons of NFL players in the program that presumably wouldn't "need" the scholarship. Or sons of doctors. Why did no one ever get up in arms and say that DPJ or Dylan McCaffery should walk-on? Should Aidan Hutchinson give up his scholarship so someone else who needs it can have it?
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:52 PM ^
It's outlandish because its only being said about Jace and Jett, because their dad is the coach and is rich.
No one here would suggest another 4/5 star player walk-on/not be on scholarship to "help the program." Both of those players have earned the right to be scholarship players because of their hard work, and shouldnt be expected to do something different because of who their father is. And yes, JH and his family have money and could pay for their boys to attend UM, but they shouldnt be expected to do so just because of their status.
September 22nd, 2021 at 3:51 PM ^
I agree that both have worked and earned a scholarship. You are right that this is only because their dad is the coach and rich, but I don't know of any other situations similar to this where the dad has control over the scholarship. The only reason I asked this question was because it was an option for Jace during his recruitment and was discussed here and Sam discussed it on WTKA of the possibility for him to be a walk on. So don't get all ruffled because I asked if it could also be in play for Jett. I hope we can give all 3 of them scholarships, but we were discussing 3 or 4 players and only 2 remaining scholarships for this class based on the assumed attrition after this season.
September 22nd, 2021 at 4:06 PM ^
There's more to the difference between walk-on and scholarship than who pays tuition.
Walk-ons don't have access to the training table, typically don't get as much free gear, some can't participate in out-of-season workouts.
Jett ain't walking on.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
Triple G?
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
he will never replace GRIII in my heart, regardless of his school choice.
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:58 AM ^
I highly doubt they get Traore then if they're willing to accept Glenn's commitment. Traore doesn't seem like he's in any rush, but maybe this visit blows him away.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:02 AM ^
I agree, I don't know how I feel about Juwan accepting Glenn's commitment that soon after the visit. Optimistically, I'm hoping that means Juwan is confident he can get Traore or Smith to commit on the visit, but it seems like Traore is taking his time
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:08 AM ^
It's tough since they're family friends, but I think Traore could be worth the risk of waiting it out. I do wonder if maybe that's Juwan thing. Set up visits based off priority and give each one the chance to commit before the other visits, like he did with Dug and Trimble.
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:51 PM ^
They are recruiting for 4 spots, but I think there’s a chance they have as many as 6 open. So I look at it as Traore vs future transfer to be named later. If you get Traore in the spring then cool, if not Juwan will look to add from the portal. This is based on Dickinson, Jones, Diabate, and Houston declaring, then Johns and Nunez no longer counting against the limit for their covid year, then one random transfer out. So actually 5 of those 7 things happening isn’t crazy.
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:59 AM ^
Reed already committed. Right? And Traore has to be a take no matter what, right? So thats basically Smith vs. GG
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:59 AM ^
Mentioned this in the other thread, but I think you take Traore regardless, even if it means over signing at this stage of things.
As for GG, he's a good player who has been a little injured, but hasn't really done a lot this summer iirc...i think his decision will hinge on Smith.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:01 AM ^
I don't see us pushing Traore for a commitment but we could do so for Smith. If Traore is stretching things out to the spring, we could use our 4th scholarship now on Glenn or Smith, and then a 5th one on Traore or hold it for a transfer.
Potential scholarships freeing (Eli Brooks doesn't count as we're using his Covid year to exceed the standard roster limit):
- Brandon Johns graduation
- Adrian Nunez graduation
- Hunter Dickinson to NBA
- DeVante' Jones to NBA
- Caleb Houstan to NBA
Technically, any of these players could come back (and we could have someone else decide to transfer or have Diabate or someone else blow up into an NBA exit), but this seems like the most likely scenario as of now.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
I think Diabete is headed to the NBA. Not sure he needs to blow up to do so. I also think our chances are better with Traore if Diabate does go pro, since they play the same position.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:11 AM ^
Diabate isn't currently projected on any major NBA mock draft boards, and is generally regarded as a 2+ and done prospect by the NBA. The general feeling is he needs to show production on the court first, but he won't necessarily have much opportunity to do so this year. It seems as if it's a matter of when not if, so I see your point, but he is regarded as a little further away as a prospect compared to the other 3. But, it is very possible he proves them wrong fairly quickly, as he certainly has the ability.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
If he plays well, he will be a first round pick. NBA loves switchable 6’10 bigs with face up potential.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
Traore is a take no matter what. Not sure why we need Smith, if he is as described (undersized, highly skilled, not very athletic...) because we already have a similar but superior option in house--Tschetter is better! Fine with taking Glenn as a program guy with upside, so long as the door stays open for Traore.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:48 AM ^
Tschetter is better? Says who?
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:07 PM ^
Coaches praising big will . Sounds like he continues to be most impressive freshman so far . That’s huge
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:17 PM ^
could just be motivation for the 5 stars to get their shit going because the B10 is a slaughterhouse and if they're not ready... itll show real fast.
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:41 PM ^
Well, I guess we scared Smith off, ha ha. Tschetter was a scoring machine in high school. Okay, not the highest level of competition. But then, look at his tape. Great footwork, smooth and accurate jump shot, high motor. Can score with ease down low or from deep. Not ideal size for a pro prospect but...big enough, and looks like the kind of guy who could be a beast in college.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:36 AM ^
I hope we could take two more players as well as Jett. There could be room for both Glenn/Smith and Traore with likely attrition.
I certainly hope we don't lose out on Traore. He seems to be a clearly elite level talent.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:39 AM ^
I have a feeling we can take 3 more, not 2 more.
Most likely Howard does not count as a scholly, or something else behind the scenes.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:51 AM ^
Since it seems like its for some reason coming making the rounds again...
Jett is not coming as a walk-on.
Just because his dad is rich and can "afford it" does not mean a Top-40 player is walking-on.
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:29 PM ^
Tom Brady would.
Serious question though. Do you miss out on other amenities as a walk on vs scholarship?
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:02 PM ^
As of 11am this morning, Colin Smith is still slated to visit Ann Arbor this Friday along with his parents.
UPDATE - I have confirmed that Smith cancelled the visit. Looks like Gregg Glenn to Michigan in a few weeks.
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:27 PM ^
Based on nothing at all, I predict he commits by Sunday/Monday.
EDIT: This didn't age well. :(
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:28 PM ^
Is Traore still a take regardless?
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:20 PM ^
Thanks Matt!
Glenn and Jett were always considered a package deal, so this doesn't surprise me too much.
I think Yohan is a take and you figure things out later.
even without Yohan, this is a very good class
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:25 PM ^
Assuming Jett comes on board, I just see this as a Glenn/Smith battle for a spot. I think Traore is a take later irregardless. If he doesn’t come on board you can always see if Johns wants another year and that would leave him, Reed, Diabate, Williams and Tschetter as people down low. As someone said below, if Diabate leaves you can still plug in Traore.
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
UPDATE - I have confirmed that Colin Smith cancelled his visit. All things are pointing toward a Gregg Glenn to Michigan announcement, and perhaps a joint announcement with Jett Howard.
September 22nd, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
Welp, that just leaves the unknown potential roster spot for Traore in the spring. The class will be technically full with those two. Another really good class by Howard and his staff.
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
GAH!!! Wrong thread to post something about Zach Charbonnet!!!
Uhh, yeah, so... We're a basketball school!!!
(What's this topic about?)
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:12 PM ^
I haven't been this excited since the impending committment of Gary Grant!
September 22nd, 2021 at 5:57 PM ^
Prediction is he is coming to Michigan and Jett will commit on the 4th as well.
Traore could still be a take if they have plans for others on the roster.

Double-G!

Glenn seemed like a Yohan backup plan, I'm surprised to hear that we think he's committing to us so soon.
September 23rd, 2021 at 12:35 AM ^
I personally liked Glenn's film.
He looks like a 3 or 4 year player, but a contributor that we need.
If his career is Brandon Johns, I see no problem with that whatsoever.
