OSU starting safety Josh Proctor out for the season
https://twitter.com/11W/status/1437548460325187584?s=20
He was OSU's starting Free Safety, their deep safety in their single high system. He was one of the only returners in the back 7 for OSU and probably their best player. He had a shoulder injury vs Minnesota in the 4th quarter, didn't start vs Oregon but still played before suffering a leg injury and getting carted off.
His likely replacements in order are:
Bryson Shaw, a RS SO who was a 3 star (#575 recruit) out of high school and started vs Oregon in Proctor's place. He wears #17 and was objectively played a very bad game on Saturday.
Marcus Hooker, a RS JR who was a 3 star (#640 recruit) out of high school. He started 5 games at FS for OSU last year, missed the B1G Title Game due to injury and only played Special Teams in the playoffs. He hasn't played a defensive snap this year after being suspended in the offseason for his second DUI related issue.
Moving one of 3 or 4 CBs/Cover Safeties to FS.

Can't edit but meant to say best player in the back 7, not on the defense or the team. Although maybe he was for the defense since their DL has been awful so far as well.

Wishing him a speedy, season-long recovery.

Wait. Are you telling me that OSU has not one but actually two 3-stars on their team? When did this happen?
September 13th, 2021 at 7:53 PM ^
They spent all their money on quarterbacks.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:50 PM ^
You can't put all of your money, sorry I mean eggs in one basket. You have to diversify!

This is how much the U of M has changed. When I was there in the 70s they told us to make a revolution.

Here's the wild thing about OSU, all jokes aside. From my count they have 16 5-stars on their roster. Of those 16, 5 are defensive players, 4 of those are DL, and 2 of those are true freshmen. The last defensive 5 star is a transfer LB from USC who was just declared eligible to play before the Oregon game and played a few snaps.
For all the talent OSU has, almost all of the elite talent is contained to the offensive side of the ball. And of the elite defensive talent, almost all of it is on the DL, which just had 0 sacks and 1 TFL against Oregon. OSU doesn't have bevy of 5 star DL who can get to the QB at will like they did in 2017, the trio of 5 star CBs to shut everyone down like they did in 2019, or competent LB like they did in...2010 (?, OSU's LBs have sucked for a while). They don't have the talent to overcome bad coaching, and it's showed these first two games.

Just clicked to say that was really informative. We always see rankings when they come in but we rarely see the breakdown over t time as people come and go
September 14th, 2021 at 12:27 AM ^
Well yeah, but whoever is starting and is not a 5 star is mostly likely a 4 star.

Yet Michigan will still lose by 30 come November

How do I subscribe to your newsletter, Bambi?
September 14th, 2021 at 9:03 AM ^
And he knows how to pronounce Filiaga
September 13th, 2021 at 8:12 PM ^
That’s a bummer. Hope he heals up soon
September 13th, 2021 at 9:17 PM ^
Virtue signaling really is the all-American past time now. Josh Proctor doesn't need our sympathy. He'll heal up just fine, run a 4.45 at the combine, get drafted in the second round, buy a Ferrari and party with Dwayne Haskins. We'll all be obsessing over Michigan football and jerking off when our wives go on Meijer runs. He should feel sorry for us. In the meantime, I'll take some small joy that we have a slightly better chance of beating OSU in November.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:23 PM ^
Being decent isn’t “virtue-signaling” lmao
September 14th, 2021 at 7:13 AM ^
It's pious and boring. This is a sports blog and we're here to root for Michigan. Nobody needs to feel sorry for Josh Fucking Proctor. Save the sympathy for kids with cancer and have a little fun at our rivals expense.
September 14th, 2021 at 8:08 AM ^
This post sucks.
September 14th, 2021 at 8:45 AM ^
If all you super virtue signalers feel so bad for Josh Proctor, why not get his email address from the OSU directory and write him directly and offer your help and sincere condolences (and I'm sure he won't find this strange at all)? Why post well wishes to a web site he will never read? Is it possible you're just trying to draw attention to yourself for what a good person you think you are and validate that with a couple of thumbs up? How tedious. Just have a little fun my Gen-Z friends. Josh Proctor is going to be OK, I promise.

OK cool Go Blue
September 13th, 2021 at 9:30 PM ^
Blueingreenville, you are a lucky guy. Meijer runs are done by me.
September 13th, 2021 at 10:00 PM ^
Exactly, when else are you left alone to jerk off?

Also, this gets to a point I make a lot: EVERY team has quite a few three-stars. Even Bama and OSU. Probably good to keep that in mind before freaking out when three-stars commit to Michigan
September 13th, 2021 at 11:39 PM ^
The Three Star Mafia (tm) will not allow this nonsense.
September 14th, 2021 at 9:05 AM ^
Yes, and Michigan three-stars find their way into the NFL.
September 14th, 2021 at 10:23 AM ^
I think I heard on week 1 that Bama has a very small number of 3-stars that aren’t P/K/LS.
For example last year out of a class of 27 recruits only three were 3-stars(?)
September 13th, 2021 at 8:17 PM ^
Great. All we need is our passing game to take the top off their defense, and we should win The Game...... Oh wait..
September 13th, 2021 at 8:21 PM ^
but i thought osu doesn't recruit 3 stars
/s
seriously tho wish him a healthy recovery for the bowl game and not one day earlier
September 13th, 2021 at 8:34 PM ^
I hope to see him back on the field healthy and losing in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:46 PM ^
Well, that sucks for the kid, I hope he can bounce back and continue on his career path in football. I don't feel bad for the team, though...
September 13th, 2021 at 9:11 PM ^
Shaw definitely had a horrible game. What Blake Corum did on his 65 yard TD run is pretty much exactly what CJ Verdell did to Shaw for a 75 yard house call to start the 3rd Q, except Verdell is just a liiiiiitle slower than Corum. Shaw looked like he was moving in quicksand. If that is their #1 safety going forward that's....not ideal
September 13th, 2021 at 10:09 PM ^
Craig James favors Hooker...
September 14th, 2021 at 5:20 AM ^
...allegedly
September 13th, 2021 at 11:38 PM ^
I hope he recovers and returns to high level football (excepting when playing Michigan).
The partisan nature of college sports and win above everything including ethics (looking at you tOSU slappies) has made so many forget these are kids trying to succeed. Best of luck to him in his recovery.
September 14th, 2021 at 12:23 AM ^
How many hookers does Ohio state have?
September 14th, 2021 at 12:24 AM ^
If football doesn't work out for Josh Proctor, which it very likely will, I hope he gets an MD or PhD so he can be Doctor Proctor.
September 14th, 2021 at 1:58 AM ^
I hope he marries a girl with the last name Gamble and they decide to hyphenate their name.
September 14th, 2021 at 4:02 AM ^
He could become a bookie. Place your bet with Proctor and (please) Gamble (responsibly)
September 14th, 2021 at 8:45 AM ^
Maybe a future as Dr. Proctor, Proctologist?
September 14th, 2021 at 6:34 AM ^
I'm fairly shocked OSU doesn't have another 5* to step, much less a 4*. I guess they're not raking on the recruiting trail at every position
