MODERATION REMINDER - End Of OT Season Approaching
This post shall serve as a reminder that, as per board tradition, the end of OT season will commence at 11:59:59 PM this Friday (as Saturday marks one week before the first game), so if you've been sitting on a really good OT discussion, now is your moment to grace the board with it. Conversely, if you've been sitting on a bloody awful OT discussion, this is also your moment, but I cannot imagine why you would take advantage of it.
More formal instructions will appear in a couple days, including the usual guide to what should and should not happen and all that. You know, the shit that most of you don't read anyway. Your chance to not read it again is coming soon enough.
That said, I thought a reminder would be thoughtful, especially with a fair number of new faces around here, or so it appears.

Fuck it, hasn't ever stopped me before!

LSA you are a goddamn treasure. Thanks to You, Rob F, Seth for making this a pretty damn good message board and the best sports blog on the planet.
Now OT: Best place to buy more PCP?
August 23rd, 2021 at 9:30 AM ^
I’ve got your OT photo right here. Thanks Misopogon and Ian Boyd for a few more insights at Cultivate in Ypsilanti.A physical inscribed copy just in time to have no time to read it!
August 23rd, 2021 at 9:33 AM ^
Naughty, incriminating bits redacted (something about the “whole enchilada”).
August 23rd, 2021 at 9:17 AM ^
Thank God.
August 23rd, 2021 at 9:19 AM ^
But how else will we get properly informed about politics and pandemic information!?
August 23rd, 2021 at 9:28 AM ^
I actually plan to address COVID threads in the formal reminder later in the week.
Basically, I was considering a "PLACE YOUR CONSPIRACY THEORIES, MISINFORMATION AND REASONS YOU ARE TOO CHICKENSHIT TO GET A SHOT HERE" thread each week, which would be kind of like Snowflakes, but we would also ask people to let us know who can have their MGoPoints since they obviously don't want them.
In all seriousness though, the rule will likely be "don't" for such threads, unless there is some overarching important thing that needs to be communicated - ACTUALLY needs to be communicated, not "because I am under the delusion that people care about what I have to say" communicated.
August 23rd, 2021 at 9:41 AM ^
Now I'm confused. Should I or should I not start a daily thread documenting my firsthand account of taking horse deworming medication to prevent Covid?
August 23rd, 2021 at 11:42 AM ^
Please start. I would love to subscribe.
August 23rd, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
I have 2 liters of ivermectin for my cattle and a quart for my sheep should you need more-really I do. I am travelling from here in the middle of godforsaken Kansas to Pinckney this weekend for a 50th HS class reunion-you, or anyone else, can pick it up there.
August 23rd, 2021 at 4:05 PM ^
Your sarcasm is only ruined by your inattention to details:
"... taking horse deworming medication to prevent Covid?"
Anyone taking Ivermectin is to reduce the symptoms of Covid and/or to reduce the possibility of death - meaning they'd already have it.
But don't let facts get in the way of your snark.
Ivermectin - it's not just for horses anymore:
August 23rd, 2021 at 4:30 PM ^
Can I just cut out the middle man and bugger my sheep? Asking for a friend.
August 23rd, 2021 at 6:31 PM ^
Damn, I was just having a little fun. You OK?
August 23rd, 2021 at 10:05 AM ^
no covid threads allowed should have been done a long long time ago.
If scientists and epidemiologists and medical doctors and nurses can't convince a vocal subset of the population that it's real and it's dangerous, an MGoBlog post sure won't.
As hilariously ignorant and as lacking in factual data as Teldar and huffeyes meltdowns were, it just doesn't seem worth it.
August 23rd, 2021 at 4:11 PM ^
I think you've missed the boat on the current fight against the vaccine.
It's not that Covid is (as much) perceived as not real - it's the lack of faith in the vaccine.
I mean, when BOTH the major Pharmaceutical companies DESTROYED their own control groups during all their "testing" - by giving those in the control group the very vaccine they were NOT supposed to get - they obfuscated any meaningful results.
But yet it got FDA approval. Weird how that works. ($$$$$$$$$$$$)

Either a linked source or a retraction please.
If you can't or won't provide a verifiable link, you are one step away from your account being blocked. We're NOT going to continue going down the covid mis/dis-information path.
August 23rd, 2021 at 7:20 PM ^
incredible what people will believe, then regurgitate in public, stuff they hear with zero factual evidence behind it. as a scientist it makes me sad.
August 23rd, 2021 at 11:20 AM ^
With the expected notice of full authorization of the Pfizer vaccine today, I expect that there will be new concerns expressed by those who fear the needle but are not true "anti-vaccers".
Step up and protect those who can't get the vaccine, please!
August 23rd, 2021 at 2:35 PM ^
Thank you LSA.
You are truly a gentleman and a scholar.
August 23rd, 2021 at 4:00 PM ^
"...REASONS YOU ARE TOO CHICKENSHIT TO GET A SHOT HERE"
Wow.
I mean, the tolerance in that statement is mind-blowingly absent.
August 23rd, 2021 at 4:16 PM ^
Well, I will put this is way - I don't get paid to do this, so you basically get some guy moderating a board with and no filter for what you may see as his personal shortcomings. If you want it professionally done, complete with forced toleration of utter bullshit, feel free to talk the management into providing a salary. I might be more inclined at that point, otherwise it is pure me.
August 23rd, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
lmao the tolerance? What the hell are you talking about. He just called people a name. Sticks and stones and all.
you apparently lack the ability to understand what “tolerance” means. like those people that think the first amendment applies to their Twitter account, or what you have to wear to enter a store
August 23rd, 2021 at 9:28 AM ^
better get my OT: Afganistan thread in quick!
August 23rd, 2021 at 9:29 AM ^
Wow, it's getting nearly impossible to successfully click on threads the way ads keep loading.

Here’s to hoping that unlike last season, once OT season is over, we don’t hope for its quick return thanks to, well, the season!

Canine anal glands

My dog caught a case of giardia up north—does that count?
August 23rd, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
To express or not to express?
August 23rd, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
My dog updated the smell of the couch last week with his anal glands. When my son (who was sitting next to him when this happened) pointed it out, my first response wasn't to get mad at the dog, or ask why my son had done nothing to prevent this, or explain why he needed to clean it up. Nope, my first thought was, I learn a bunch of very interesting useless crap from MGoBlog OT season...and I'm thankful for that.
August 23rd, 2021 at 2:33 PM ^
How about this compromise? If we come out of the gate 2-2 or 2-3 or something like that, we should just title any detailed review of our play as "Canine Anal Glands" and then go on to describe the playcalling. Somehow, the two will relate at the end of the day in such a scenario.
August 23rd, 2021 at 2:42 PM ^
The difference being that canine anal glands serve an actual purpose, unlike many of our offensive plays. They do smell nearly identical, though.

I have some interesting and incredibly well-researched (generally via Infowars) thoughts on covid, vaccinations, politics, and religion. Don't worry, I'll have my threads in soon.

Shame, shame, shame! You should know better that that. You know damn well that shit has no place on the MGoBoard at any time of the season. Do better.
Tweet your hot takes to M recruits like the rest of us.

the sarcasm is dripping … I love it

'That said, I thought a reminder would be thoughtful, especially with a fair number of new faces around here, or so it appears"
I wish. Most of the new faces are just old faces with a new avatar.

I'm actually not looking forward to the non-OT board (read: football) commentary season this year. FWIW, I hereby welcome and celebrate all discussions about kitchen cabinetry, Michigan sports bars in Topeka (great microbrews in their downtown!) and college hockey.
August 23rd, 2021 at 10:46 AM ^
Thanks for all you do, LSA.
August 23rd, 2021 at 11:16 AM ^
I ALWAYS take the end of the OT Season notification in moderation.
August 23rd, 2021 at 11:32 AM ^
Serious question LSA: I'm prepping a "Covid Neck Sharpies Part IV: Variants and Breakthroughs" post to get under the hood the way I usually do on this series. Will probably drop it next weekend. The previous versions haven't turned into a political shitshow... yea or nay on posting?
August 23rd, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
If nay, please find a way to advertise this info to us. I'm serious. You were always a voice of sanity and scientific reason throughout the covid era. I really appreciate how you make some fairly hard core content very approachable to the masses. Maybe you have a podcast?!
August 23rd, 2021 at 1:14 PM ^
Thanks for the kind words, man. If I had a podcast, I'd inevitably descend into lamentations about Michigan football every 10 minutes, then I'd go "wait, what were we talking about?" But seriously, the thing about explaining the science is that so much of it is visual. It's the same problem I have when Seth or Brian describe Xs and Os on the pod-- I need to see the whiteboard or video before I get it.
August 23rd, 2021 at 3:01 PM ^
Go ahead.
I might be too busy contemplating the revisions to "The State Of Our Open Threads" anyway.
We are very close to having enough data on Michigan football to conclude fairly solidly that our use of bad language is consistent and predictable and even scalable to the size of the tragedy, as it were.
