A Lot of Milk

I have all the respect and appreciation for the players on the team and the incoming players who chose Michigan instead of the powers they could've gone to. That said, those players deserve the best coaching we can give them. This staff is not even in the top half of the big ten. We're running out of chances to prove top recruits that Michigan is worth their time. Warde can't miss the boat and let us fall to the Iowa tier for the extended future

I think that's in some ways the point of the article. That despite the fact that "it's not even close", Michigan still had 3 elite recruits that elite schools went after hard and wish they had. Just because the class overall was borderline top 12, it doesn't mean we shouldn't be excited about Worthy, Edwards, and McCarthy heading to Michigan.

Believe what you want about Michigan's ability to develop QB talent - We all know the QB is the most important position on the offense and can trump a lot of issues. With all the handwringing on recruiting stars, we did just get one of the top QB recruits in the history of our program. That is something to have even the smallest amount of hope in. Especially if the rumors are true that Joe Moorehead will be joining the staff. There is already a plethora of talent on the offensive side of the ball, so the potential exists with the right staff in place.

Remember back in the day when we had a big game near the end of the year on ABC fans would bring signs that said:

Another

Big Ten

Championship

We need:

Another

Offseason

Championship

Amen. We've had a string of QBs come thru here with JH and they'd produced more wins for other teams than for us.

Speight, Peters, now DMac.

I'ts great we got what looks like a top 5 class offensively, but JH has shown ZERO ability to produce a top 15 offense here. With a new QB in 21 that has little experience in this, or any system that a new OC will run, still plenty of green on the OL, I'm not expecting more than a top 25-30 offense next year.

And it ignores the GAPING holes on defense.

Worthy will get 2-3 targets per game, Edwards will get 5-6 carries per game, and McCarthy will sit until he is a junior or transfers.  That won’t change the CFP.  Don’t believe me?  See Dylan McCaffery, Zac Charbonet, and Giles Jackson.

This shit needs to stop. The pig has 25 shades of lipstick on it already and we’re 2 days into this year. For those saying that 2021 will be better than 2020, I believe it’s true - for almost everything but Michigan football. There’s no magic fix waiting in one recruiting class. There’s no discernible way out of what we’ve become.

Remember what Greg Mattison did to the defense when he took over? And then Michigan was #1 in defense Don Brown's first year? If you get the right staff hires, things can change. It doesn't always get worse. Clemson had no more talent than Michigan when they started blowing up - It wasn't until after they began competing for top 4 finishes that their recruiting classes became what they are now.

I have serious doubts this will happen, but Jim Harbaugh is not Brady Hoke. Get the staff right, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, get his clipboard-rage-throws back on the sidelines, and maybe we can pull off a victory over OSU in the next couple of years and turn it around.

Heck, if the Urban rumor is true and he takes a good chunk of Day's staff, who knows what can happen. Doesn't mean you have to believe confidently, just stop the whining and hope Harbaugh figures it out with the right people in place. Weirder things have happened.

I never said that I think he will. Hence my lack of vote of confidence at the end. I just think that if I'm Jim Harbaugh and have to deal with the backlash of a fanbase of my alma mater while coaching the team I used to play for, there really is only 1 of 2 options at this point - go all in or cash out. And as competitive of a person as I am, I do not touch his level of competitiveness or his level of success. I just feel like if Jim stays that the drive he lost after 2016 will be more present again - if not 1 foot is already out the door and he is seeking better options today. I don't see how it's any other way. This is basically one of those rock bottom moments that everyone faces in some capacity in life that usually results in some corrective action whether it's move on or crush skulls.

"...get his clipboard-rage-throws back on the sidelines..."

What makes you think that guy is coming back?  He's been gone since 2016!  He either made a conscious decision to lighten up on the rage, or he made a conscious decision to medicate against it.  I don't know which, but four years after a life changing event, that part of Harbaugh's personality is not coming back.  It's gone.  The Jim Harbaugh that won at USD, that built Stanford (STANFORD!) into an enduring top 20 team, that took San Francisco to the Super Bowl and two other NFC Championship games in only FOUR years, that put Michigan on the brink of the CFP in 2 years...  That Jim Harbaugh left the building 4 years ago.  He made a conscious decision to change, whatever that change was.

And he's not coming back.

You missed the part where I said "I have serious doubts this will happen."

Jim Harbaugh has it in him. He will probably find it somewhere else if he doesn't again here. You're right, he has been gone. But I doubt it has left him forever. It's just a matter of where and when before he finds that passion again. Why do you think Urban Meyer keeps on coming out of retirement? These guys burn themselves out and then find the passion to do it again. I personally couldn't imagine the hell these coaches put themselves through. I'm not surprised nor blame Jim, especially with how unforgiving this fan base can be, for any of this.

Look Up!

Bunch of so-called fans who can't even be excited about players choosing to commit to UofM in the middle of a shit show.

Maybe you should focus less on the adult millionaires and actually ROOT FOR YOUR FUCKING TEAM!

Let the negs cleanse my soul from you idiots.

It's simple, if McCarthy is an All-American...this class will be great and we'll have a shot at the CFP.

If he's just average, Shea Patterson 2.0...we'll have the same results. 9-3ish type team.

Have to have the QB, next you have to have great OL and DL. After that, you can mask pretty much everything else. But McCarthy is what makes or breaks this class.

stars indicate potential for the most part. Harbaugh's gotten a fair share of 4 and 5 stars that become 3 star college players. time to develop players, improve results on the field, and then maybe we can up our recruiting to a top 5 or 6 level consistently.

Well, I recently talked about this subject in another thread, but I understand why people are making negative comments about the future of the Michigan football program.

Though as I stated, Michigan has some very talented offensive recruits at the top of their 2021 class who could possibly turn things around. So don't let the overall class ranking mislead you.

We know that success in today's college football is about having a great offense.

McCarthy, Edwards and Worthy could be the answer for more wins and getting other future top recruits to come to Michigan.

LSU was a mediocre program that always underachieved with their talent, and it only took ONE transfer for them to go 15-0 and have one of the greatest seasons of all time. Coach O isn't even considered a great coach by a lot of people. Just had a good year where everything came together at the right time.

The exact same thing can happen at Michigan. JJ could be that guy. One game changer at QB and the trajectory of the program goes in a completely different direction, forever.

Optimism is a wonderful thing-often a true difference-maker. Delusional fans are not difference-makers. JJ and/or Cade may well be difference-makers. Edwards seems to be a very strong, internally motivated young man as well. Can they overcome the odds???

"Insanity is...". The last five seasons declare the Jim Harbaugh is not a difference-maker. There is more than bad luck and a bad spot in play here.

The LSU situation is an exception to any rule-it has never happened before...evidently there is nothing "forever" about it happening at LSU. There is nothing to predict it will happen at Michigan-though, in my opinion, the talent is on this roster for it to happen.

My expectations have nowhere to go but up-at least I hope so.

It’s a numbers game. You get Highly ranked guys and they have potential. Roughly half will flame out. So you have to stack that talent up to have a chance. Love Worthy, Bama took 4 guys higher rated this class, OSU took 2 higher rated. If Worthy went to OSU he’d be like their 8th highest rated WR on the roster.  OSU took the #1 RB and probably could have had Edwards if they wanted, but took a guy slightly lower ranked who they maybe liked him better. JJ has potential, just like OSU’s 5 star QB this class who OSU picked over him, but probably not as much potential as OSU’s #1 overall player they landed for 2022 at QB.

It’s about the top 100 talents. We got 5 of those recruits this cycle. That was a good haul for us. We usually land just 1 or 2. Bama and OSU landed 14 and 13 of those top 100 guys this class. Clemson had a down year with only 7 top 100 recruits.

So our ceiling is ND with a big caveat, we play OSU every year. So our ceiling is really also ran. But I don’t think we have to worry about ceilings these next couple seasons as the floor is what we’re going to be flirting with.
