Although I'm a Texas fan, that was a nice win today for Iowa State. I'm liking Campbell a lot. I think he could do well here.
November 27th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
I’m not, still Fickell for me. Fickell can dive deep into Ohio and get recruits.
November 27th, 2020 at 3:44 PM ^
I like Fickle too, but I highly doubt he would come here.
November 27th, 2020 at 3:47 PM ^
I think he'd come here, but I think the fanbase would give him the Rich Rod treatment.
November 27th, 2020 at 4:05 PM ^
Rodriguez didn't exactly do himself many favors, either.
I'm not sure he would have ever gotten the team into the championship game, but I thought he should've gotten at least a 4th year.
November 27th, 2020 at 8:25 PM ^
Rodriguez did do two great things for the program. He brought Denard to AA and he started the BBQ. That’s about the only good things he did while he was the head ball coach
November 27th, 2020 at 9:05 PM ^
Now let's not forget about his wife Rita's famous nacho cheese dip.
November 27th, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
I hope we all learned our lesson and treat him with respect. Their is no reason for this fan base to be arrogant
November 27th, 2020 at 8:24 PM ^
You're right. There is no reason and yet it still be very prevalent.
November 27th, 2020 at 5:07 PM ^
Fickell is not coming here, I doubt he would even be considered. Remember he wasn’t good enough for OSU, twice.
November 27th, 2020 at 4:19 PM ^
Luke Fickell would laugh in our faces and burn the offer letter in front of Warde. He played at OSU, and coached there for over a decade. That has to be a complete nonstarter for him as far as ever coming here.
Besides, If he’s good enough to get an offer here, then he’s good enough to get an offer at other places that mat very well open within the next year or so, like Auburn, USC, and FSU. All jobs that are just as good as Michigan if not better ones.
November 27th, 2020 at 4:37 PM ^
This isn’t the cub scouts, natural instinct is to go where the money and opportunity is. He was also spurred by OSU twice. You have no idea what that man would do if given the opportunity.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:41 PM ^
I'm not interested in Fickell. Ever. The man bleeds Scarlet and Gray. And I doubt he will ever be interested in us.
Maybe he goes to Columbus when Day goes to the League. Or, as a devout Catholic, he goes to Notre Dame when Kelly moves on.
November 27th, 2020 at 9:34 PM ^
If Fickell wanted to come here after all of that time at OSU I wouldn’t want him.
November 27th, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
You know who Gary Moeller was, right?
November 27th, 2020 at 6:18 PM ^
Thank you!
November 27th, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
Moeller was a Bo guy. He played at OSU when Bo was an assistant. He coached under Bo at Miami of Ohio. He came to Michigan with Bo in 1969. An except for three forgettable seasons at Illinois, he worked for Bo until Bo retired in 89.
November 27th, 2020 at 8:29 PM ^
Gary Moeller was also a captain at Ohio State.
It doesn't mean Fickell will ever coach at Michigan, or that he's a good choice. I do think, though, that if it looks like Ryan Day is not going anywhere and Michigan offers him the job that there's a good chance he takes it.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:12 PM ^
If Fickell burned his letter, he molests Alpacas.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:55 PM ^
I will never understand this logic, especially coming from fans of a program that still laud Bo Schembechler, a man born and raised in Ohio, who played college ball and became a CFB head coach in Ohio, and who was an Ohio State assistant coach on two separate occasions before becoming head coach at Michigan.
If the right offer is there, the possibility is absolutely on the table.
November 27th, 2020 at 5:14 PM ^
I’m not on the Fickell train, but if he was at Michigan, I’d expect him to coach against Ohio St like his life depended on winning.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:00 PM ^
Matt Campbell:
- Born in Massilon, OH
- Dad was HS head coach in Ohio
- Played at Mount Union (Ohio)
- Assistant Coach at Mount Union, Bowling Green, and Toledo
- Head Coach at Toledo
I think he can dive into Ohio pretty deep himself.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:17 PM ^
Ohio has a lot of football recruits, looking over the isu roster I see a total of 4
November 27th, 2020 at 6:51 PM ^
All those Ohio connections but outside the Ohio State network. That I can get with.
Secret fear regarding Campbell. Call it the Don Brown syndrome. Defined as:
- Excellent coach of three star (or lesser) recruits at middling Power 5 program
- Great excitement about what he can do with a bunch of 4 star and a few 5 star recruits
- Can coach 4 and 5 star guys (see: Michigan 2016) but can not recruit 4 and 5 star prospects
- Fairly rapid descent into mediocrity on a good day.
Somebody once asked Sparky Anderson what defined a good manager. He replied "If he's got talent, does he win?" There is no substitute, you gotta have the players. And in college football that means you gotta be great at recruiting.
November 27th, 2020 at 7:09 PM ^
Isn't Campbell from Ohio too?
November 27th, 2020 at 11:16 PM ^
Matt Campbell is from Massillon, OH and played at Mount Union. I bet that he could recruit OH just fine.
November 27th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
You don't have to look at this recruiting to be on the train. He's a damn good coach
November 27th, 2020 at 3:44 PM ^
I too am becoming a Campbell fan. Winning like he is at Iowa State is impressive. Just think what he might be able to do at UM. Would be happy if he became out next coach
November 27th, 2020 at 3:56 PM ^
Campbell is a good coach. But honestly, in 'most' years, I think we roll them.
November 27th, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
Michigan would roll ISU most years? That's not really the point...
November 27th, 2020 at 4:19 PM ^
Yeah, what is up with this odd logic? I'm sure most years Michigan would have rolled Youngstown State when Jim Tressel was their head coach.
November 27th, 2020 at 5:57 PM ^
Best comment this week
November 27th, 2020 at 9:30 PM ^
The fact they would roll us now is the point in being interested in this guy. Iowa State is not a hot bed for football but he has made them a very good program
November 27th, 2020 at 11:46 PM ^
Do we though? At least 3 out of harbaugh’s 6 years I’m not so sure. Also you are completely missing the point. Campbell is over performing and beats the top teams in his conference every couple years. Meanwhile Michigan looks like what iowa state would historically look like against Ohio State with over 10x the talent.
November 27th, 2020 at 3:41 PM ^
Welcome brother. The soup will set us free.
November 27th, 2020 at 3:55 PM ^
This is amazing
November 27th, 2020 at 3:42 PM ^
When was the last time they beat Iowa?
November 27th, 2020 at 3:44 PM ^
You’ve been really determined in your “let’s stick with Harbaugh” schtick since our triple overtime thriller against Rutgers.
November 27th, 2020 at 4:07 PM ^
You've been in the "burn it all down" camp for a few years also - doesn't help anything either.
November 27th, 2020 at 4:26 PM ^
Yeah not beating your rivals or winning championships is actually not good.
November 27th, 2020 at 4:43 PM ^
Neither is shitting on everyone in your program. It doesn't help anything.
November 27th, 2020 at 5:56 PM ^
I gave up on the idea that if I "believe hard enough" and not be a "fair weather fan" that the team will improve when I turned 15.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:09 PM ^
It's called moral support. If you abandon them when times are tough, that doesn't make you much of a fan... or a human being.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:16 PM ^
Some would argue that advocating to get rid of a coach who is failing the team is in fact supporting the team.
November 27th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
lmao im not abandoning them. Im watching the game. I'm just not going to act like this program isn't falling below expectations.
Great job saying I am not a good human being over a fucking sports game fandom. Don't respond to any more of my comments.
November 27th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
You shouldn't try to order people around either. It's rather unbecoming.
November 27th, 2020 at 8:25 PM ^
Amazin'
