Gemon Green emerging as second corner behind Vincent Gray
Really great for Gemon to emerge as a leader. He’s always been a pretty high ceiling type player but needed to play with more consistency in practice. Sounds like he’s been doing that recently and has been keeping DJ Turner and Jalen Perry at bay.
Side note: my phone kept autocorrecting Gemons name to “Venom” which is an excellent nickname
October 5th, 2020 at 11:38 PM ^
When Gemon breaks out this year, his official MGoBlog nickname must be Venom Green
October 5th, 2020 at 11:39 PM ^
I hope like hell I'm wrong but to me this sounds awfully frightening.
October 5th, 2020 at 11:45 PM ^
Yeah Bateman is gonna go for 200 in game one

Sampling your wares SC?
Downers are on sale today?

Or Morgan will get sacked 5 times and throw 2 picks because he doesn't have time to get the ball to him. Minnesota's o-line is thin. I'm more worried about obviously OSU, but also PSU. They have the talent to exploit the less experienced CBs. I'm not yet convinced Minnesota does.
October 6th, 2020 at 9:02 AM ^
Thumbs down because I read Batman and you were in the totally wrong universe for Venom Green. It would have to be spider man going off.
October 6th, 2020 at 9:47 AM ^
That's fine if we Win!
October 6th, 2020 at 11:19 AM ^
Fuck Bateman. How bout that ( Tony Montana 1983)
October 5th, 2020 at 11:48 PM ^
Why?
It's a lot less frightening than hearing they're going to move Daxton Hill or Seldon there.
October 6th, 2020 at 4:00 AM ^
Dax Hill at corner doesn’t seem very frightening. Green’s recruiting profile doesn’t excite but Zordich has had success molding unheralded lanky corners (Clark/Stribling) into solid starters.
October 6th, 2020 at 7:11 AM ^
There are two frightening parts of moving Hill or Seldon:
- You confirm there is no depth or margin for error in the CB room
- You deplete the safety room (significantly)
I'm not worried about Gemon, he was a 4-star, or had those reviews (I forget which twin had the knee problem). All this says to me is that the CB room is coming around. But I do hope this is real news, as opposed to a coach blowing pre-season sunshine.
October 6th, 2020 at 9:41 AM ^
We’re frightened bc a 3/4* 6’2 corner from TX has emerged as the top corner alongside Gray? Ok then.
October 6th, 2020 at 10:51 AM ^
"I'm not worried about Gemon, he was a 4-star, or had those reviews (I forget which twin had the knee problem)."
Perhaps you meant to reply to Mr. Miggles? I think you meant to reply to Mr. Miggles...
October 6th, 2020 at 11:54 AM ^
Yes, obviously that was a reply to mr. miggles.
October 6th, 2020 at 6:08 AM ^
Because it wouldn't be mgoblog unless we over analyzed everything.
October 6th, 2020 at 1:58 PM ^
I'm frightened because Gray, to me, is just a guy. I didn't love him as CB2
October 5th, 2020 at 11:47 PM ^
Ha. Here’s a nice kick to the nuts from re reading MGOs recruit bio.
In 2019 Michigan is going to have between one and three of Ambry Thomas, David Long, and Lavert Hill. If it's three, high-five yourself and stick this DB class in the cooler for another year. If it's one, there will be 1.5 starting slots open and just Benjamin St Juste and 2019 true freshmen competing with this class. Green and Sims are the most likely prospects to emerge into major roles in that situation
October 6th, 2020 at 10:18 AM ^
Uhh.. I know we don't want to admit it but it's 2020, so the fact that he was "in the cooler for another year" is good.
October 5th, 2020 at 11:56 PM ^
So we'll have a two star and a low three star going up against Justin Fields. Sweet.
October 6th, 2020 at 12:10 AM ^
Who is the 2 star?
Gemon Green was 5 spots away from a 4 star. I am nervous about that situation too but no need to exaggerate.
October 6th, 2020 at 7:28 AM ^
Maybe referring to Sammy Faustin? Not sure either.
October 6th, 2020 at 10:08 AM ^
Faustin was in the #500s and from Fla.
October 6th, 2020 at 12:17 AM ^
Mgoblog's profile for reference:
https://mgoblog.com/content/2018-recruiting-gemon-green
looks like a 3 star to me... Hopefully, he's improved and plays above where he was in HS
October 6th, 2020 at 5:19 AM ^
Two star? Gemon was #382 nationally. Just a couple spots away from four star territory.
October 6th, 2020 at 10:21 AM ^
If you're gonna care that much about b.s. crootin rankings, at least reference them correctly please.
October 6th, 2020 at 12:29 AM ^
Emerge ehmerrrge. Ermergerrd!
October 6th, 2020 at 1:18 AM ^
Honestly, I've heard so much split talk about the cornerback room that I'm not going to count on anything until the game against Minnesota. I recall earlier that DJ Turner was the man to beat for the job, as well as more recent buzz that Daxton was slated for CB after Sammy Faustin emerged as an option at safety. Other reports indicated that Jalen Perry is in the mix. Just tough to decode all the information right now, especially as they just now start working in pads. Maybe a guy can separate himself leading up to the season.
Here's hoping that there will be no need for another "Never Forget" collage.
October 6th, 2020 at 3:06 AM ^
There's no way it's "never forget" bad.
October 6th, 2020 at 5:26 AM ^
There’s really nothing to decode. Not sure what is so confusing, it’s all laid out pretty straight for you.
Dax to CB is something they talked about as a possibility based on depth and getting the best guys on the field. Nothing was set in stone, just something they were exploring. It still likely isn’t off the table and could be used situationally.
Earlier DJ Turner was the man to beat. Time has passed. Practices have gone on. It isn’t “earlier” anymore. Guys can lose leads they hold in position battles. Pretty simple.
“Jalen Perry is in the mix.” Well... he IS in the mix. He’s one of the few guys fighting for the spot and he isn’t out of it. That statement isn’t saying he was the leader or anything, just that he’s up there in the competition.
Now we hear Gemon is currently leading for CB2. He isn’t named the starter yet, theres still time for someone else to take the job, but at this point he is leading.
October 6th, 2020 at 10:50 AM ^
I guess decode isn't the right word for the situation.
It's just less set in stone than any other position on the roster with so many names thrown around for the job, and as you mention there's plenty of time for that to change and I wouldn't be suprised if things were changed come week 1.
Mentioning the Never Forget generation was a step too far, but it does make me miss the days of Long, Hill and Lewis.

Not gonna pretend like I know anything based on some numbers and a few clips. Good luck to the kid.
October 6th, 2020 at 6:06 AM ^
I had a feeling about this when i saw that leaked video of him guarding Giles
October 6th, 2020 at 9:04 AM ^
Link?
October 6th, 2020 at 1:20 PM ^
What's the issue? Looks like he was on his hip, giles is by no means slow either
October 6th, 2020 at 1:39 PM ^
None. O-line picked up a nice stunt blitz. Joe stayed in the pocket. Landed a 40+ Yard dime to a receiver that was covered.
October 6th, 2020 at 6:20 AM ^
"Second corner behind Vincent Gray" strikes me with terror.
October 6th, 2020 at 6:34 AM ^
I thought Don moved him to a 3 technique in goal line situations? Now that he is a DB the poor kid will be left on an island to cover the entire field. Durn.
October 6th, 2020 at 9:05 AM ^
...what?...
October 6th, 2020 at 2:33 PM ^
I'm guessing it's a reference to Don Brown's stunning defensive wizardry against Wisconsin whereby Dr. Blitz chose to counter Wisconsin's substantial size advantage by placing Jordan Glasgow as a DT in goal line situations.
October 6th, 2020 at 6:53 AM ^
Well the good news is, if he gets hurt, we have a spare one laying around. Kidding of course, their aptitudes seem to not be equal.
October 6th, 2020 at 9:01 AM ^
Maybe we can use his brother for parts.
October 6th, 2020 at 7:40 AM ^
This thread further illustrates my point in the last one where I noted I can't remember a time where I literally had zero idea what to expect from a michigan offense or defense. If this defense is Don Browns worst I wouldn't be that surprised. If it ended up actually being quite good...I wouldn't be that surprised.
October 6th, 2020 at 9:09 AM ^
I get where you’re coming from. A lot of positions are gonna be filled by guys we haven’t seen much of.
However there isn’t as much turnover as it feels like. On D only 1 CB 1 safety and 1 LB haven’t started before. The LB spot has been extremely well recruited. On O it’s more due to the line but that’s another position group that’s been extremely well recruited. Then it’s likely 1 WR and the QB. They can put 3 WRs on field that got time last season (Bell Sainristil Jackson).
So while it feels like it’s a lot it actually isn’t. It’s the kind of turnover good teams manage through good recruiting. And that’s what they’ve done. Except CB all of the guys stepping in were 4 stars that this site was excited about.
I’m cautiously optimistic about our first 7 games. We get UW and psu at home where Harbaugh has beaten them.
October 6th, 2020 at 1:19 PM ^
The success or failure of this season rides on one player. If he sucks the season will suck. If he's good, the talent around him is there to have a good season. If he's great ... fuck yeah!
October 6th, 2020 at 2:41 PM ^
I don't even know if he has to be good (if you're talking Milton). He just can't suck. Charbonnet, the Oline, and DT make or break the season for me. But mostly Charbonnet. If he is Barkley Sanders or Taylor good that's the best offensive skill player we've had this decade. A playmaker like that is what Harbaugh has been missing.
October 7th, 2020 at 7:41 AM ^
Honestly that's a good point I think a lot of my angst has to be due to the corner situation if you really boil it down. I could be wrong but since DB has been here it seems like there has always been one absolute lock down corner and another that was sort of "1b" combined with an outstanding d-line (although last year was challenging).
So yeah looking at that you are right! I think it's just the corner situation and some uncertainly on if this d-line will be pretty good or awesome.
October 6th, 2020 at 10:40 AM ^
It'll likely be the same as it always is. Good against most teams, 50/50 against Wisco and PSU, and get blown out by OSU
October 6th, 2020 at 7:46 AM ^
He has a much higher recruiting ranking than either Stribling or Clark and both of them turned out pretty well at corner (granted they were playing alongside Jourdan Lewis).
