The Daily Hoosier writes about bulletin board material for this week
It's Indiana Hate Week and I'm getting hateful and angry about those mean, dirty Hoosiers. The Daily Hoosier is helping to fan the flame in their article about bulletin board material.
First of all, they victim-blame Chase for getting injured last year.
Of course most Indiana fans know by now that Michigan’s Chase Winovich instigated things on that day after he intentionally stepped on the bare leg of Hoosier offensive lineman Simon Stepaniak with his cleat.
Then they (at least the author) take issue with Shea's comment:
"We gotta go on the road to Indiana, but our eyes are still set on the last one."
Also, The Daily Hoosier is bringing up quotes from Tom Allen at, I think, an alumni event in May:
“We went to Michigan last year, and things didn’t finish the way that we wanted to, but I promise you this,” Allen said. “They knew they played the Indiana Hoosiers, and they didn’t like it.”
“I’ve got news for those fellas up there,” Allen said. “That’s how we’re going to play. Physical, mean and nasty. And that ain’t going to change.”
Run up the score! Stop letting these little cousins hang around.

My anecdotal observation is that Allen's IU teams play a little dirty. I'm ok with physical (it's part of the game) but I recall a few after the whistle shots and some cheap hits. I trust we are taking them seriously - because they are a good team sandwiched between two rival games....
November 20th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
From what I remember, they were easily the most dirty team last year, even counting MSU and Wiscy. I recall having zero respect for their program after how dirty they played.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
I'll always remember one of their defensive players ever so subtly kicking the football at the end of the first half so Michigan couldn't get the snap off, and then Allen reacting at halftime like he'd just won the Super Bowl.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:06 PM ^
Those asswipes kicked the football right before half last year so there would be less time for the ref to spot the ball so we could spike it, and if I remember right they pretty obviously faked a couple injuries just like they did against Nebraska this year.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
Last year they played dirty. I'm sure Harbaugh remembers.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:21 PM ^
Slow it to 0.25 speed at 15:10 for the maximum douchey Tom Allen experience.
Let's go down there and burn that place to the ground.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
Oh, man. I had forgotten about that. Now I want to win by 80.
Fuck that guy.
November 21st, 2019 at 10:40 AM ^
Wow, I forgot about that too. Now I'm pissed. Win with cruelty.
November 20th, 2019 at 5:47 PM ^
Thanks for embedding the video, forgot about that kick, and that our team kicked six FGs, they weren't too far away from blowing out Indiana last year.
November 20th, 2019 at 6:09 PM ^
This could only happen in a game officiated by John O'Neill. Yet they still assigned him to the ND game this year.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
I don't understand how that wasn't delay of game - if not unsportsmanlike conduct. How can a referee tolerate a defensive player kicking the ball to waste time?
November 20th, 2019 at 3:59 PM ^
Exactly. Baffling. He kicked the ball while it was in the ref's hand.
Big 10 officials should just go ahead and don clown costumes.
November 20th, 2019 at 4:14 PM ^
Maybe if the IU lineman had flexed for a second while doing it they would have called it.
November 20th, 2019 at 4:57 PM ^
It's not baffling - it's Big Ten refs.
Not surprising at all.
November 20th, 2019 at 4:17 PM ^
Perhaps the ref needed to pee and it was close to halftime
November 21st, 2019 at 7:59 AM ^
I guess the player didn't "flex"
November 20th, 2019 at 2:50 PM ^
They were the dirtiest team we played last year. It was shocking to see them behave worse than MSU. Chase doesn't just step on someone for no reason.
Fuck them.
November 20th, 2019 at 4:34 PM ^
My opinion of Mike Hart changed a lot after watching him condone most of the dirty behavior. I forgot about the kicked ball thing. I really hope for no injuries and that cooler (hopefully winged) helmets prevail.
November 20th, 2019 at 4:14 PM ^
I referenced the dirtiness in my Best and Worst from last year; there were a couple of really obvious late hits that went unpunished. They're sorta known for it, at least against Michigan.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:22 PM ^
The way UM has been playing lately, I don't think Indiana will be much of a challenge. We'll know how good UM really is on 11/30.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
Well, similar Michigan teams have struggled with worse Indiana teams. Hope you're right but I'm not so sure.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
I mean IU took PSU, a team that beat us, down to the wire, in Happy Valley. And Michigan is historically not been very good on the road. I think this will be a nailbiter.
They're not an NY6 team by any stretch, but they are a far better team than the editions that have given Michigan problems for years. Teams that have typically gone anywhere from 4-8 to 6-6. IU has more to play for this year than hoping for a trip to Ford Field to play CMU.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:18 PM ^

They also lost to MSU, the team UM just dismantled, giving up 40 points in the process.
It seems IU always plays their best against UM, so this game could very well be a loss. But it's just as likely to be a blowout IMO.
November 20th, 2019 at 7:32 PM ^
Everyone plays their best against Michigan
November 20th, 2019 at 4:59 PM ^
Indiana was down by 10 with under a minute to go..
November 20th, 2019 at 1:28 PM ^
Tom Allen is really just a big piece of shit.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
That's ok because...
November 20th, 2019 at 1:29 PM ^
Indiana is a good team, as evidenced by them hanging around Penn State in Happy Valley, but their wins are over Ball State (4-6), FCS Eastern Illinois (1-10), UConn (2-8), Rutgers (2-8), Maryland (3-7), Nebraska (4-6), and Northwestern (2-8).
They've yet to beat a team with a winning record, and their best win is Nebraska (#55 in SP+).
I hope we blow the doors off of them.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Normally this game makes me nervous, since they've taken us to the wire recently. But for some reason, I'm not even a little worried this season. I think we'll beat them handily. And even if we don't, who cares? As long we we beat OSU the following week no one will remember losing to Indiana the week before.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:40 PM ^
A loss to Indiana would take a NY6 bowl, including a possible Rose Bowl off the table though
November 20th, 2019 at 2:55 PM ^
Don't care. Beat Ohio State.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:59 PM ^
It is not either/or though. You're telling me you wouldn't like to see UM in the Rose Bowl for the first time since 2007? I am on board that beating OSU would make it good season regardless, but going to the Rose Bowl would be a little sweeter than the Holiday Bowl or whatever other random bowl 9-3 would get you.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:16 PM ^
Yes, obviously both would be better. But as long as we beat OSU I won't gripe about playing Florida in Florida or whatever bowl game we end up in.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
November 20th, 2019 at 7:10 PM ^
How does that work? In this scenario, where UM beats OSU, OSU likely beats both PSU and UW meaning UM and PSU would be tied with two losses each. This tie breaker would go to PSU. Is the committee obligated to take the best team in the conference or do they just pick whoever they want? I don't have the bowl games memorized for playoffs this year. Seems people are suggesting the rose bowl is a NY6 this year, so the normal Rose Bowl pairing would be the goal.
November 21st, 2019 at 11:06 AM ^
The Rose Bowl committee has to select the team that finishes highest in the playoff rankings. In all likelyhood UM would jump PSU with a win against OSU.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
SP+ has it as a 3 pt game, 28-25, so hold on to your butts.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:51 PM ^
SP+ has to include our offensive (pun intended) performances against Army, Wisconsin, and Iowa, so it might be slightly undervaluing Michigan. Not ruling out a real close one, but I'm expecting a score similar to last year's.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:18 PM ^
Their game with MSU was close and look what we did to them. Granted, we're on the road this time, but Bloomington doesn't exactly strike fear into the heart.
I don't know. It's weird, but I'm just not that worried about this game.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:23 PM ^
Same here. I wonder if it's because Indiana is actually kind of good, that we'll be more ready for them.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:51 PM ^
That and we're not nearly as banged up as we usually are at this point in the season.
We're also not playing for a Big 10 title and playoff birth like we were last year and in '16. Both times I think we played tight, thinking win this game by one point and get out without getting anyone hurt before OSU.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:39 PM ^
I think SP+ math would say that those games occurred, and Michigan could revert back to that at any point.
But even independent of Michigan, the Indiana offense is #13 and their defense is #34. I watched their game against PSU and they looked good. They probably end the season ranked in the AP.
November 20th, 2019 at 3:56 PM ^
I'd have to review but I think SP+ treats September games the same as November games. That's fine in a lot of cases, but when a new offense is installed and takes one step back in order to take two steps forward, it becomes less predictive once the offense is humming. I don't see the argument that Michigan could revert at any point (unless they start fumbling like crazy again).
IU is indeed decent this year. But they are one spot below ND in SP+, who Michigan pummeled, and lost to MSU -- who was Top 35 SP+ when Michigan played them, and also pummeled -- and IU lost Penix since that game, which SP+ also doesn't measure.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
Shouldn't losing 23 straight and 48 out 49 to UM be all the motivation Indiana needs? Not sure why they would need to invent bulletin board material.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:34 PM ^
Well, losing 22 in a row wasn't enough.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
Sure youre not just salty about being Drew Henson's Backup?
And more importantly, doesnt Purdue have the rights to "Indiana Hate Week"?
November 20th, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
Every week is Hate Week.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:16 PM ^
That’s convenient since I hate every team we play.
November 20th, 2019 at 2:34 PM ^
Just keep monitoring that blood pressure.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
I really hope michigan blows the doors off them because; 1. they are "good" and it's a good sign to beat a good team on the road, 2. we all want to see progression of what we have seen as we head toward osu, and 3. they are starting to annoy me
I've seen a lot of people post stating "if we lose any year it's a good year...beating osu is all that matters".
While that isn't necessarily wrong, if this team can't progress and beat IU they are very likely not going to beat osu or have any chance to. The team still needs to progress and grow and build and can do that this weekend as they line up to really peak against osu.
