MSU’s Nick Ward our with a broken hand
https://twitter.com/bfquinn/status/1097273414610493441?s=21
”Yow. Some serious news out of Michigan State:
What was billed as maybe a dislocated finger for Nick Ward is now known to be a hairline fracture in his hand. Ward is out for an unknown amount of time. MSU says it hopes he will return before the end of the season.”
Gotta think he’ll miss the first matchup on the 24th

I’d feel bad for the kid if MSU didn’t enable and encourage a culture of rape. Fuck them.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:28 PM ^
That's not a healthy way of looking at this
February 17th, 2019 at 6:52 PM ^
No, it isnt. I wish there was a world where someone didn’t have to point this out, but unfortunately it is factually correct. People need to be constantly reminded of this though, so that it hopefully discourages it in the future. I feel bad for the kid, not the school.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:41 PM ^
You're mistaking the part for the whole.
February 17th, 2019 at 7:09 PM ^
No, we cannot do this, and you shall not do this.
You can talk about the cultural issues at Michigan State all you please and criticize them all you please, but don't use that to deny empathy to an individual player like that. They are distinct things. Please be a better person next time.
February 17th, 2019 at 11:03 PM ^
But ward is an asshole. I do not have an issue with any other player on their team right now.
February 18th, 2019 at 7:42 AM ^
He is a Grade A asshole, yes. But there are no reports - ZERO REPORTS - that he abused, assaulted, or otherwise talked meanly to any women. So assigning him that blame is complete bullshit. We wouldn't stand for that if a women accused us of it, nor should we stand for men falsely associating others. Have an issue with the players all you want, just make sure its for a valid reason.
Personally, I feel bad for most players that get injured out of games. Ward is part of the 'most', in this case. He's an asshole, but I wanted him to get posterized by Teske...
February 19th, 2019 at 5:14 PM ^
What about Ward is an asshole? I'm pretty sure Zavier and him are friends.
Don't get what happens in the arena confused with what happens in real life. The nicest kid I ever knew in college (4.0 GPA, never swore, never drank, treated women with immense respect, great team captain, and a national championship/borderline Olympian) was thought to be the biggest asshole on our team because of his athletic perception - he liked to celebrate when he won (which was pretty much all the time). They thought he was a cocky douche and an asshole, which was far from the truth.
I wouldn't say Ward is an asshole because he got in Matthews face. Just like opposing fans shouldnt say Iggy is an asshole just because he likes to celebrate, etc
February 19th, 2019 at 7:51 AM ^
Would you say that if he played for Michigan?Do you know him personally? You may be a decent person when your not on this blog
February 18th, 2019 at 9:37 AM ^
Some leaders and best stuff right here.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:27 PM ^
Bummer for the guy. I can't imagine him being back against us next Sunday. As with all injuries, I hope he heals up quickly.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:28 PM ^
Smart move IMO. If you break your hand, you can’t get your ankles broken again. In all seriousness it sucks that happened. Always feel for players when it happens right before post season play. Hopefully he can come back
February 17th, 2019 at 9:13 PM ^
ehh, he did it on purpose. He's afraid of Matthews.
s/
February 18th, 2019 at 10:59 AM ^
Nah, I heard he slammed his hand on a table out of frustration while watching film.
Oh wait, that was Branden Dawson... My bad.
February 17th, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
Did he brake it slapping the floor?
February 17th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
Ward can’t bend over that far.
February 17th, 2019 at 11:28 PM ^
Or did he BREAK it while trying to brake so his ankles didn't get broke?
February 18th, 2019 at 7:49 AM ^
Logged in to upvote. Well done.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:29 PM ^
Dang, was hoping Matthews would get in his grill again
February 18th, 2019 at 10:04 AM ^
Between the Matthews play and the Wagner play, Ward has provided some of the best photos and gifs for UofM basketball over the last few years. Gonna miss the big fella.
We will be treated to "weird guys" now though.

Google says it’s around a ~3 week recovery. So if things go really well, he could be back for our game against them in East Lansing. 4 weeks would have him miss the conference tournament. 5 weeks and he’d miss the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament
February 17th, 2019 at 6:38 PM ^
5 weeks and he’d miss the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament
So out for the season then?
February 17th, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
They’re probably a 2 seed right now. Without Ward, they could drop down to a 4 seed. Tougher potential matchups all the way through. So you could be right
February 17th, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
Underrated comment.
February 17th, 2019 at 9:12 PM ^
Lol first two rounds. In other words his season is over.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:33 PM ^
I had a hairline fracture in my hand and was in a cast for six weeks.
It was pretty obvious to me he had broken his hand the way it was bothering him after they took him out.

A few classy posts combined with the expect dick posts. Larry Nassau has nothing to do with msu basketball and if you believe that you’re a simpleton
kid is a college athlete and it’s in poor form to applaud a possible season-ending injury. MSU was already down one starter — you need it to be 2/5 to feel good about your chances? If so, you’d be losing to a dominant team in the tourney anyway. Root for your team. I doubt b ___ would endorse that type of loser’s mentality. Weak sauce and bad sportsmanship
February 17th, 2019 at 9:23 PM ^
Can I ask why you decided to respond in this fashion to this particular post?
February 17th, 2019 at 10:20 PM ^
At 22-3, Michigan isn’t afraid of playing a team that hasn’t beat them since Gavin Schilling and Eron Harris were in the team. MSU should definitely worry about beating Michigan whether they have Wars or not. MSU should also worry about now Winston will get 100% of the scoring done (as that’s what they will need to do if Wars is out) with Simpson owning him and drinking his milkshake
February 18th, 2019 at 1:02 AM ^
What about 23-3?
February 18th, 2019 at 11:35 AM ^
I feel like Kenny Goins is Gavin Schilling Reincarnated. I keep thinking that Goins has been there forever, this is probably why.
February 18th, 2019 at 12:43 AM ^
You trolling hard. I’m sure you’ve reported back to your superiors.
February 18th, 2019 at 7:27 AM ^
Is Larry Nassau the name of a Long Island pool shark?
February 18th, 2019 at 8:14 AM ^
Naw, think he was a Long Island golf shark and was known for wearing leisure suits with golf shirts.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:35 PM ^
For anyone that watched their game against OSU today, it was pretty obvious he hurt it pretty bad. I was very surprised he went back out there.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:40 PM ^
No, he's still theirs. Charles threw him back.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:40 PM ^
If he plays against Michigan he'll get some broken ankles to match.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:44 PM ^
That’s a 3 to 6 week injury, knowing from experience!
February 17th, 2019 at 7:03 PM ^
Hey Bluenin, Good to see you back on the blog. Hope all is well with you. Fracture on his shooting hand can't be good.
February 17th, 2019 at 7:07 PM ^
Hey Blue, I ducked out for a while after the PSU game. Knew it was going to be toxic on here for a while and I didn’t want to deal with that!
February 17th, 2019 at 8:05 PM ^
Us? Toxic? That’s unpossible!
February 17th, 2019 at 11:47 PM ^
Just a bunch of light-hearted optimists on here.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
I’m seeing some speculation that he pulled a Branden Dawson and punched something at half. I wasn’t watching super close but there didn’t appear to be anything mentioned about it during the first half.
February 17th, 2019 at 7:37 PM ^
One thing he didn't punch was his ticket to the NBA...
February 17th, 2019 at 8:05 PM ^
Yeah, that broken hand really ruined his draft stock. He was probably a lottery pick before that - in Haiti...
February 17th, 2019 at 8:12 PM ^
I thought he hurt it in the 1st half? Or is that spin.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
Did Dakich say something that made him punch a table?
February 17th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
This is big. MSU still has Tillman and Goins, plus Kithier has been pretty decent as a freshman so they have some depth. But they start and like to play two bigs so only having Kithier off the bench is not going to go well for them.
Tillman will be the guy expected to replace Ward. He has pretty similar numbers when looking at Torvik but he only plays 50% of minutes and his usage is a lot lower than Ward's. I really don't see how MSU gets consistent non Winston scoring now.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:54 PM ^
Basically the opposition game plan with be to try and force Winston into TOs and run McQuaid off the three point line. Do those mildly successfully and the opponent has a decent chance of winning.
February 17th, 2019 at 6:58 PM ^
Doesn't it seem like most of Tillman's points come on put backs? Doesn't look like they have anyone to replace Ward as a true scoring threat in the post. I'm guessing Ward will be out at least through the B1G tourney. He hasn't done much of note against UM, and I'd have faith Teske would match up well with him, but this is a major blow to Sparty.
