Also St. Juste out for the year with an injury.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
Yes, thanks for adding that. That's a bummer. He has showed promise when playing. I didn't see what type of injury.
September 25th, 2018 at 1:57 PM ^
Isiah Hole reported a few weeks ago that he heard it was a hamstring injury that would keep St. Juste out for the season.
It's a bummer but he gets a redshirt in now during a year in which PT would be hard to come by.
September 25th, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
It's not Juste that Vilain will be injured this Hole season.
September 25th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
"Vilain," I cried, "dissemble no more! Here, tear up Doug Plank...it is the beating of his hideous Hart...but fast!"
September 25th, 2018 at 3:00 PM ^
Didn't St Juste already redshirt, i.e. he'd have to apply for a sixth year?
September 25th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
St Juste played special teams last year IIRC. Villian, however, was injured last season and this season, so he would be eligible for a sixth year. Which would be huge, as he would help fill the void left by Chase and Gary, and could end up giving us four solid years of production.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:32 PM ^
What kind of injury did he have? Hopefully he can recover 100% and be ready to go by next year. With Chase graduating, we'll definitely need him.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
The injuries were not specific; unless I missed something.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
I did not read where the type injuries were discussed other than they are out.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
Harbaugh says he had successful surgery this week (sources tell WolverinesWire that it was on his other knee), which is why we haven’t seen Vilain this season.
Sources tell WolverinesWire that Vilain is also not expected to suit up this season. He did receive his medical redshirt last year, and will reportedly use this season as another redshirt year, and have four years of eligibility following this one, should that hold true.
September 25th, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
No guarantee he will have 4 more years to play. I believe you have to apply for that 6th year.
September 25th, 2018 at 1:22 PM ^
Unless you play for MSU.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
Welp definitely need Paye back ASAP then. Otherwise it seems like all we have at DE behind the starters are Hutch, Jones and Johnson. Maybe stick Uche in there for pass rush scenarios?
Edit: Johnson wasn't on the Nebraska participation chart. Neither was Uche. The only other backup DE who played was RS SO walk-on Dane Drobacky, who got his first career action. We are getting scary thing there, probably not going to get Gary or Winovich off the field much at all the next few weeks.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
UMBIG11 apparently put an update on 247 that Gary, Filiaga and Paye are good to go but will be a while until Solomon is back. Last paragraph on Brian's postgame write up yesterday.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:49 PM ^
Oh didn't see that. Good to know. I was going off the presser posted today where Harbaugh said he had no update on Paye. Disappointing about Solomon though.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:54 PM ^
Any details on what Solomon has going on? I remember that he had a relatively "routine" surgery earlier this year, but curious as to what is lingering so long.
September 25th, 2018 at 1:02 PM ^
Dude, he had surgery at the beginning of the season, not a huge stretch as to what might possibly be happening.
September 25th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
Explanation?
September 25th, 2018 at 1:11 PM ^
I don't think we were told exactly what Solomon had done so I couldn't tell you how "routine" of a procedure he had. But it's only been 2-3 weeks which isn't crazy even for something smaller like a meniscus.
September 25th, 2018 at 2:17 PM ^
I'd like to make a deal that we get Solomon back the same week that OSU gets Bosa back. Who do I talk to about that?
September 25th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
No thanks. I would prefer to get Solomon back for Wisconsin (again, no idea the severity of his injury) or at least MSU. Bosa has a potential #1 pick in this year's NFL draft to maintain so he should probably sit the rest of the season to heal up for the combine.
September 25th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
Most soft tissue injury (muscle, tendon, ligament) that is not torn typically take 4-6 weeks to recover.
September 25th, 2018 at 3:43 PM ^
Knee.
September 25th, 2018 at 1:20 PM ^
I thought it was a meniscus tear or something like that (6-8 weeks out)?
September 25th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
Meniscus surgery. "Fast" recoveries are like 3-4 weeks.
Usual recoveries take longer (closer to 6+ weeks) and since he had it post-ND he's only 3 weeks into that process at this point.
It's not lingering. It's surgery, this is how it goes.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
Didn’t Paye just get his nuts stepped on? I think he’s fine.
September 25th, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
Not sure/hope that's true. Seems like Paye is fine, just wasn't sure based on Harbaugh saying he had no update on Paye.
September 25th, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
If someone stepped on my nuts, I definitely would not be fine
September 25th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
Especially a 270+lb dude.
Hope that man was wearing a cup. Looks like he was able to walk it off within a few minutes. Hope he is good to go.
September 25th, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
270+... my nuts would be crushed into oblivion!
September 25th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
Do players still wear plastic cups ? Serious question.
September 25th, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
No. Hell, they don't even want to wear knee or thigh pads anymore.
September 25th, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
I was surprised we didnt see Uche saturday.
September 25th, 2018 at 10:32 PM ^
After all the stepping on nuts talk, I read this as "Eunuch"
September 25th, 2018 at 3:23 PM ^
DEs are dropping like flies. Depth chart is getting a little scary. Gary's shoulder is a little beat up too.
September 26th, 2018 at 6:26 AM ^
Thought I saw #6 out there late in Saturday's action
September 25th, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
He will have missed two full seasons to injury. At this point I'm just hoping he can even get on the field in the future.
September 25th, 2018 at 1:08 PM ^
He can look at Mike McCray as his role model.
September 25th, 2018 at 2:27 PM ^
Damn. I remember getting really excited about this kid when he committed. Looked like he'd be an amazing pure pass rusher.
Luckily he's still got time to get onto the field. I presume we won't be seeing him this year, though.
September 25th, 2018 at 3:14 PM ^
Is this to fix the same issue that kept him out last year?
September 25th, 2018 at 3:17 PM ^
The extreme secrecy about injuries is just dumb.
September 25th, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
I don’t think so I mean it is protected health information for young men. Most places would require a signed waiver to discuss. I like that coach doesn’t freely speak about his players medical issues I read it as loyalty.
September 26th, 2018 at 8:12 AM ^
" Most places would require a signed waiver to discuss. "
Every place would require a signed waiver to discuss.
Thing is... every athlete signs said waiver as part of their contract with the university in receiving a scholarship. In general - every athlete at every university has waived a large part of their medical privacy protections.
September 29th, 2018 at 11:18 AM ^
Well then let’s put all the kids business out there because middle aged men who are fans of the team thinks the coach should.
September 29th, 2018 at 11:24 AM ^
I believe those waivers are intended for medical staff to discuss injuries with coaches not coaches untrained in medical practices to discuss a 19 year old kids health with the national or local media but I could be wrong, if I am it’s still seems like if the coach wants to keep it in house fans and media should STFU and stop crying.
September 25th, 2018 at 6:49 PM ^
This isn’t a Zach Smith situation. The public has no particular need to know what a guy’s injury is.
September 25th, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
Dude was nearly a 5 star two years ago. I hope he gets right and we see him on the field next year.
