Almost beyond caring at this point. We get all hyped up by a bunch of 18 year olds and who knows whether they'll even work out. 90% is about player development - hopefully we can do better with what we have than has been the case during the past couple of years.

I agree with you Hoek. For whatever reason, I am optimistic that he ends up at Michigan. Malik's recruitment has made no sense and no one has really known much. With that said, why not shock everyone and lead people to believe he isn't going to Michigan to then commit here. Also, I think his parents decision will have an impact on his decision and they love Michigan.

I don't know why, but I start getting nervous when the board gets "optimistic" about a recruit.

Wish he was going Blue, but I have a feeling he's all Green. Too bad.
Next man up.

11 losses in the past 2 seasons has pushed him away.
Good Luck to the kid whereever he decides to attend college

I guess it's OSU of FSU based on what you think is most important to him.

love to see it, but what was the last streaming cap-pick where the guy grabed the block M? From the Dept. of Sour Grapes, at least one of those profound disappointments (Pryor) ended up turning out all right in the end.
Perhaps the worm is going to start turning our way.

Part of the reason we haven't had many is because Hoke and co. lock up recruits early. Very few late signings under this regime.

I just put the M hat on and I'm now hanging drywall in my bathroom...
Malik will never have to hang drywall in his life, and for that, I am jealous.

I sure hope the academics component wins out in the end. But its hard to tell these days.

Remember when Da'shawn Hand was picking based on academics? Is Michigan State as prestigious academically as Alabama? Hopefully not, we could be in trouble.

Anyone with knowledge of McDowell know why there's never any mention of him as an OT?
I know he doesn't want to play the position, so really, that's the end of that...but he seems to have the tools and the size, or is he truly a better DL prospect?
Anyway, I have no idea on this one...I haven't thought he was coming to Michigan since October so I'm sticking to that. I thought he was headed to MSU for the longest, but maybe OSU sneaks in there as a compromise between he and his parents. I dunno. At this point, I'm kind of like "whatever happens, happens."
I'm still baffled why we stopped recruiting other players. I know next year's class is going to be small, but "banking" scholarships is an overrated concept IMO. I'm not say take anyone, but there were at least 5 guys with big time offers and/or highly touted that we seemed to show interest in, then back away, then show interest again, then back away.
This has been the weirdest recruiting year I've ever followed. No one has been able to give a number of how many scholarships we had in this class (or next year for that matter).

I've wondered the same thing. His size if perfect for OT.
February 1st, 2014 at 12:50 PM ^
Apparently he is VERY insistent on playing defense to the point where he will drop a school if they mention playing O-line. I agree though with his size, he might be better suited to OT. He seems to have elite quickness for his size so he could probably just stay at his current weight and play SDE.

reading some recruiting reports, maybe consideration should be given to turning around Jack Miller.

I think in the end his family(Blue supporters) push him over the edge for M.
Hoke and Mattison to coach him up - I believe.

Just because Sam said the visit went well, doesn't mean he's confident that McDowell will pick Michigan. As far as I know, all he's said lately is that Michigan still has a chance.
February 1st, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
There was one notable difference with the in-house visits: the full McDowell family was present for the visit with the Michigan coaches, which was not the case with the visit from MSU.
February 1st, 2014 at 4:26 PM ^
He want's to play for MSU.
His mom won't sign the LOI.
He should play where he wants to play.
Sometimes, you have to tell Mommy Dearest you're going to live your own life.
Everyone should be on board with that.

Perhaps one does not want to live in the panhandle of Florida. Obviously as an athlete at FSU you can enjoy many perks, but there have been some pretty damning reports regarding the academic culture with athletes down there over the past 6 months. Hopefully the McDowells have caught wind and want to steer clear.
