OT: Ken Whisenhunt to the Titans

Submitted by LS And Play on

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen report that Ken Whisenhunt has accepted the Titans head coaching job. Where do the Lions turn from here?

55 years of poo and counting: the Lions have botched yet another chance to make a good hire.  The "smart money" is now on the Lions hiring the coach Whisenhut will replace in Tennessee, Mike Munchak.

Think the Tennessee fans will be laughing about that?

Actually no. Munchak was only fired because he refused to fire coaches the owner wanted fired. It wasn't because he was/is a bad coach. I would take Munchak over whisenhunt any day.

As others have mentioned there is no sense in going after a hack of an NFL coach. Go after a successful college coach. Someone above mentioned Bob Stoops, I am down for that. Please just don't hire one of the three mentioned.

POOR Lions fans!! Who the hell could blame him for not wanting to coach the worst franchise in pro sports history?!

Resume in but haven't heard anything yet. I'll give it another day or two and then follow up. I don't want to seem too eager, but I want them to know I'm interested.

I bet the coaches see what the weather has been like in Michigan and said I am going to stay where it is warm.

The only reason a coach would not want to go to the Lions is either the weather or the actual city limits. Other then that it seems like it would be the best place for a coach. Lots of talent on both sides, great fans and an owner that does not have his finger on the trigger to fire after a couple bad seasons.

When my heart finally expires, and the coffin is stuffed, I would like to have William Clay Ford, Tom Lewand, and Martin Mayhew be my pall bearers.  It would not be a fitting exit without getting let down by Lions management one last time.

Here is the glorious list.

Monte Clark

Darryl Rogers

Wayne Fontes

Bobby Ross

Gary Moeller (Interim)

Marty Morhinweg

Steve Mariucci

Dick Jauron (Interim)

Rod Marinelli

Jim Schwartz

At least none of the glorious 10 shares a first name.

But it seems like no matter how much or how bad you fail, you still get jobs in the NFL. The fact that an OC that scored six FGs is seen as head coach material is outrageous. Seems like once you get a job you always have somewhere to turn after you have failed at other places.

Oof. Oooooooooof.

Edit: If those are the choices, Kubiak honestly looks the best to me for the Lions. At least he had some success and developed Schaub pretty well, until it all went downhill.

I mean, the Lions could do something stupid like hire a coach from the Canadian league...

Wait, no, nevermind, no one would ever do that, nevermind me even remotely suggesting that.

Lions should call Schwartz back up and say that it was all a huge misunderstanding and that he needs to come into work tomorrow morning. I would rather have Schwartz than Caldwell, Munchak, or Kubiak.

Here is the "deal-breaker" for the Lions.

WCFJR: "We're going to start making the F-150 out of aluminium toward the end of this year."

Whisenhut: "YOU WHAT?  YOU IGNORANT DOLT!  IS THIS HOW YOU RUN THE LIONS, TOO?"

End of deal.

Wow that's a shocker...I guess it really wasn't considering it's the lions we're talkin about. I hate this franchise so freakin much.

Rumors starting to circulate that Caldwell is the guy and he is bringing along, gulp, Jim Tressel as his offensive coordinator.

I might puke...
