2014 BCS National Championship Open Thread
Last one, heald in the Grand Daddy of them all!
Florida State is favored by 13 on a neutral field, by some ESPN bottom line metric. Will Jameis Winston with the Heisman and MNC and end the SEC's run of 6 straight?
Auburn is the self-proclaimed team of destiny. Will they have one more miracle tonight?
Line: FSU - 10.5
Over/Under: 67.5

SLIGHT MOD EDIT - Not really OT for our purposes. We'll make this the open thread. - LSA

We do but we call him a TE. His name is Devin Funchess.

What a fucking bullshit penalty!

that was about the worst possible time to get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty

Talk about terrible penalties to take

unbelievable

And how the hell do the folks on the megacast not have someone that can tell them what happened live?

I really like Coach Sumlin he seems really knowledgable and seems like a good leader.

Bobby is rolling over in his grave.

What a knuckleheaded penalty. They've had enough of those already tonight.

In some ways it's better it occured on the try rather than the kickoff. They have a great return man who won't have that extra yardarge to work with to run back for a huge ST TD.
Need to stop them again but this is at least now a game. Keep pushing FSU and unseat this conference from their stranglehold over this sport.

The running back was "taunting" the Auburn sideline.

Those rules are all fine and dandy until they get in the way of real football.
January 6th, 2014 at 11:24 PM ^
You can almost always tell which team is the losing team by those types of mistakes. Can't have penalties like that at the wrong time. One team has their head in the game and FSU is letting their emotion get in the way.
All the breaks are going Auburn's way.

No replay of the critical unsportsmanlike call.
And all of the other replays never run to completion any more. They keep getting cut off by fancy graphics. It's really annoying. I've noticed it throughout the bowl season.

I think the hurry up offenses have made it much more difficult. It almost seems a dying art.

after touchdowns are literally the dumbest rule in all of football. and there are many dumb rules, with more and more being added each year.

That was a ridiculous call by the ref. He inserted himself in the outcome of the game. I often wonder if those guys are on the take when I see calls like that. Just crazy! Start checking bank accounts.
The ref was looking for something to call there. Just staring down the player.

I didn't see that. It looked like he double hit his chest and then pointed to the sideline. That's all I saw.

unsportsmanlike penalties are for high school. college football (and nfl moreso) are less about shaping character and more about entertainment. i love seeing trashtalk.

Wow that looked like a weak call to me

They did do the unsportsmanlike replay. After the commercial.
Was it a case of Vincent Smith finger-guns?!? You gotta be careful with finger guns. A powerful force, for good or evil.

I'd say the unsportsman like calls are a nod to the "I'm okay, you're okay, let's not keep score" crowd.

He kind of looks like Tressel in the face, too.

Oh thanks. That is pretty bad in my opinion. Biggest game of your career and you have to sit out because you're that out of shape? What do I know though, at least he is out there playing.
January 6th, 2014 at 11:32 PM ^
This would be a nice time for a mistake to catch up to Auburn.

I took another look and tend to agree with you. These kids need to get out of their own way. They are putting themselves above the team.

TIghten up now. FG is fine but TD is killer. Still plenty of time. Bend don't break. I hate it but do it here right now.

Yeah they just continue playing it. Why?
