noon games open thread
The noon slate isn't too great, but football is football. I suppose I will be watching the Northwestern/Iowa game.

"quite impressive" That would be that same Iowa team that lost to N.Illinois at home? And very nearly lost to ISU. Beating Iowa this year doesn't qualify as impressive and beating them by 12 defintely doesn't.

Sorry, people's hate for MSU does not mean you cannot give them kudos. Iowa literally had 2 drives the entire game - they played offense for 7 minutes at the end of 1st half when they scored 14 points. The othe 53 minutes they looked horrid. NIU is also a quality club and frankly would be in the top 5 of the Big 10 at this point based on how bad the conference is. Yes the Iowa State game was not great but who in the Big 10 has not had a laugher game - does Akron and Uconn ring a bell? Stop throwing from glass houses - we have a lot of pretty pathetic wins as well. Iowa went to OSU and gave them a good game and is not a world beater but at home they usually wont get beat down like MSU did to them.

Screen blown the fuck up!

I kinda feel bad for Northwestern. I wanted to see them do well (except against us, of course), but they seem to be slowly imploding like a flan in a cupboard.
October 26th, 2013 at 1:38 PM ^
looks vastly improved to me. Quick to the FB.

UCF - which knocked off Louisville last week and beat PSU on road - is up 38-10 on UConn at half. It is funny we actually share a lot of common opponents - they beat Akron 38-7. The only smudge on the schedule is 3 point loss to South Carolina. This is a team that can now go 11-1 with a quite simple schedule the rest of the way - should be a BCS bowl team. A very good coaching job there by O'Leary. By the way after that game Louisville coach Strong said "the best team lost" - douche. At this point UCF probably would be the 2nd best team in the Big 10 lol. My lol is a nervous chuckle, not outright laughter.

Do people actually laugh out loud when they type LOL?
October 26th, 2013 at 1:47 PM ^
I always do. You don't?
October 26th, 2013 at 2:06 PM ^
I don't us LOL in texts or online. I only ask because I see it all the time and I see people texting all the time and they are rarely laughing out loud. Also, I am not tryig to be a dick, I am honestly curious.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:09 PM ^
Actually this exchange was making me LOL but only in my head. I rarely outwardly laugh as I am a very sour man. ;) p.s. I thought your comment was being facetious rather than a serious question. If its serious than no, usually I will LOL to someone's funny comment but rarely does anything I say make myself LOL.
October 26th, 2013 at 1:50 PM ^
I only laugh out loud when other people type 'LOL', unless they are teenaged girls.
I liked the 'nervous chuckle' point though.
October 26th, 2013 at 1:51 PM ^
Northwestern still is not quite at the 4 yards per snap mark.
Of course, in Big Ten fashion, Iowa isn't exactly wowing anyone - indeed, at 4.08 yards per snap, the is literally less than 0.20 yards per snap difference between these teams.
If you looked at the box score for this game and didn't know the score, you wouldn't think Iowa was up even 10-0. Big Ten indeed.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:02 PM ^
Minn thus far with more first down, more yardage (by 50ish), almost 6 yards a rush, and 6 minutes more of possession. Nebraska also has zero penalties - random stat. All this without future "Tebow" Leidner doing much. ;)
October 26th, 2013 at 2:03 PM ^
Vitale is having a nice game for NW.

I am betting we are going to see Nebraska in TWIS. Anyone want to take the action?
October 26th, 2013 at 2:10 PM ^
Let's keep in mind this is Martinez's first action in well over a month. And a road game - and just about every Big 10 team goes down about 2 notches on the road. Which is why I feel more confident about the Neb game than MSU or NW.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:13 PM ^
I'm far more concerned with Iowa than NW.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:13 PM ^
Go Minny! Hey, looks like Minn has a 2 Qb system just like NW - can play anyone and put up points...
October 26th, 2013 at 2:14 PM ^
that was Nelson, the other QB. But whatever ... go gophers!
Go Blue!
October 26th, 2013 at 2:12 PM ^
is doing a whale of a job today. 4th and 10 from the 33 got them a TD, now they line Nelson up outside and motion him under center for a QB sneak TD.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:13 PM ^
creative offensive calls for Minny ! C'mon gophers !
Go BLue!
October 26th, 2013 at 2:15 PM ^
So is Kill actually coaching them during the week, or is the interim guy doing everything?
October 26th, 2013 at 2:14 PM ^
I often wonder what coaching is.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:17 PM ^
Does anyone else miss seeing dirty/muddy uniforms?
October 26th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
Still blows my mind we almoast lost to Connecticut. They are a truly terrible team.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:22 PM ^
They had about 200 yards of total offense. Gifting a team turnovers inside your 30 multiple times will make everyone look good.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:21 PM ^
Wow. Go out to run some errands and NW has tied it up, Minny is building a lead and Vanderbilt somehow put up 17 unamswered.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:24 PM ^
How does Michigan usually do when you go run errands? You might just have some special powers there ...
October 26th, 2013 at 2:24 PM ^
Nebraska's defense is a bad defense.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:26 PM ^
October 26th, 2013 at 2:28 PM ^
I tihnk Taylor Martinez' Nebraska career is about to end. Their offense was rolling with him out.

In regard to the missed fg, no. Is his not supposed to celebrate something positive that happened for his team? Is he not supposed to be happy for his team?
October 26th, 2013 at 2:40 PM ^
October 26th, 2013 at 2:46 PM ^
What does Pat Fitzgerald celebrating with his guys have to do with Brian Kelly yelling at his own defensive guys? Your arugment makes no sense. Showing up the other team? Every coach in the country is clapping if the other team misses a go ahead fg in the 4th quarter.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:49 PM ^
I didn't see what Fitzgerald did this time, but if it's comparable to his celebrating against us last season, it's not just clapping. Being happy and celebratory to some extent seems fine and classy. Jumping up and down cheering like a maniac? That seems like something that should be reserved for fans.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:58 PM ^
I don't like watching the guy becasue I think he is douche but I am not going to say he can't celebrate because I don't like the way it looks while not caring at all when coaches I like do very similar things. I think people are confusing the idea of I don't like the way Fitzgerald celebrates with I don't like Fitzgerald.

October 26th, 2013 at 3:14 PM ^
don't see what's not to like with Pat Fitzgerald. Is a coach not supposed to be pleased when something positive happens for his team?
Clean program, way more successful than in the past, passionate coach, PLAYER'S coach, and on and on. I like Fitzgerald...way more deserving that some of the other douches out there IMO.

ESPN announcers seem to forget that there's an entire Q of football left in Minneapolis. A bit too early for the "if they can't be Minny on the road..." talk.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:34 PM ^
Well they did say if. And Minnesota doesn't exactly have a power house offense, and Nebraska is letting them drive down the field with Nelson.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:32 PM ^
Interesting non call on the out of bounds hit.
Somewhere, right now Pat Narduzzi is laughing maniacally.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:33 PM ^
Taylor Martinez just got killed.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:37 PM ^
The guy led with his hands.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:39 PM ^
It was helmet on helmet, was absolutely a missed call, not that it mattered.
October 26th, 2013 at 2:44 PM ^
You have to launch off your feet, crouch and move upwards, lead with your head, or lower the head.
I didn't see any of those things happen. I've see plays like that called this season, but I didn't find them to be good calls
