Ohio websites have coverage on Michigan
There actually is coverage on Michigan's game last Saturday at two different Ohio State fan websites.
The Ozone has had a feature called "Michigan Monday" for years, and it continues.
LINK: http://theozone.net/football/2013/MichiganMondays/WeekOne_CentralMichigan.html
In addition, "Eleven Warriors" has apparently now added a weekly piece called "Sun & Bluesday."
LINK: http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2013/09/25429/michigan-football-sun-bluesday-fast-out-of-the-gate#more
Those of you who are addicts can go to the links. There just isn't a whole lot to add. A few observations from the Ozone.
- The Ozone liked Heitzmann & Ojemudia (in addition to the observations many have made about the O Line, Gardner, etc.)
- The Ozone also noted that the "Red Zone" defense for Michigan only gave up two field goals, which is a good thing.
Eleven Warriors isn't as heavy on analysis, but actually uses mgoblog's own Ace Anbender as as source of info. Johnny Ginter, their writer, is heavy on the snark, but can be entertaining. He writes,
I have recruited Ace Anbender from the admittedly *deep sigh* excellent MGoBlog to help me parse through what happened this past weekend. Our conversations are real, but have been edited slightly for brevity/spelling/to make me look cool.
- Ginter is pretty crabby because Michigan beat CMU the way Ohio fans think they should have beat Buffalo.
- He was struck that the defense was as good as it was, and the loss of Jake Ryan didn't cripple us.
- Ginter also thought Gardner wasn't bad. However, he believes that Gardner's decision making will come back to bite Michigan when playing against a real opponent (read: Ohio.) I have to agree I'd like to see Gardner improve there a bit.
- Ginter wasn't that impressed by Toussaint or Smith, but thinks Green is the real deal.
As always, go to the links if you want more detail. Given the nature of a first game against CMU, there just really isn't that much to analyze. (Well, unless you're doing things like UFR's.)

They don't deserve this Michigan fan's clicks.
September 3rd, 2013 at 4:21 PM ^
to deserve yours?

Oh snap. We're gonna need 500 cc's of aloe here, stat.
September 3rd, 2013 at 4:26 PM ^
You should tell that to Ace.

by telling Ace that the column he agreed to participate in isn't worth clicks from Michigan fans, which is what I responded to.

Thanks Mr. Kass! I always appreciate it when you post these.

I like the one from the O-zone, they try to keep it objective, the one from 11W though.... Just too snarky, it's like if they were afraid of saying anything good about Michigan and thus make their readership angry.
September 3rd, 2013 at 4:41 PM ^
What do you expect?
September 3rd, 2013 at 5:39 PM ^
I don't expect anything from their readers but, if they're going to ask Ace for help they should try to respect him a little and not make fun of the person they're interviewing... I would just decline to help them giving them perspective next time...
September 3rd, 2013 at 4:44 PM ^
I agree. They love making fun of mgoblog for being full of Michigan homers who can't be objective and yet their own writers can't even be objective.

Michigan Monday is always a good read, and has been for years. Interesting to get an outsider's perspective, to say the least.

I was very dissapointed with the format of that article on 11W with Ace. Ace does them a favor answering some questions and the 11W writer then goes and adds snarky footnotes that Ace has no chance to respond too. Usually interviews are posted with maybe a bit of editing and any criticism by the interviewer is usually in the format of a follow up question during the interview. Looks extremely unprofessional.

As opposed to MGoBlog, where commenters and writers gleefully make Ohio jokes about pooping in coolers.
September 3rd, 2013 at 7:07 PM ^
They do, you know.
September 3rd, 2013 at 5:42 PM ^
Also they don't really discuss the game, more like they discuss Ace's answers. What kind of "analysis" is that?.
September 3rd, 2013 at 4:55 PM ^
Thanks for posting
The 11W post was entertaining.

"Central Michigan threw the ball 28 times, completing 13 passes for 144 yards. Raymon Taylor and Blake Countess got the starts at corner, and CMU went after Countess early. They stopped shortly thereafter."
The Ozone article is - as it typically is - a pretty good read. I had to chuckle at the above passage actually. We did get a glimpse into how nice it is to have Blake Countess back there again.

One of 11W's more problematic aspects is the huge number of staff writers they have. While there are some very good articles, their huge roster more often than not means that there's a wildly disparate variance in content quality with a lot of it quite frankly just trying too hard to be funny. The fact that their moderators have been known to join with the commenter hoi polloi in using the very original and funny 'scUM' honorific speaks volumes, in my opinion.

If you understand it for what it is (a site full of homers that panders to the lowest common denominator 95% of the time), 11W isn't too bad. Ramzy writes some quality pieces time to time that take on the same storytelling tone of some of Brian's better pieces. Generally, day-to-day, it is mostly UM-bashing and discounting their own weaknesses.
September 3rd, 2013 at 5:17 PM ^
A fair point, and we mustn't let it go unsaid that the plurality of OSU's fanbase is the living, (mouth)breathing definition of "lowest common denominator"

This was the first run of a series of posts that are supposed to be full of snark—Johnny and I spent about 15 minutes going back-and-forth via chat, he had the opportunity to edit afterwards, and that made it seem a little imbalanced, I guess. I didn't mind him adding his thoughts—he makes a fair point about Gardner—especially considering that this is intended for the 11W audience much more than ours (I don't think anything I said wasn't covered either in the podcast, game recap, or Brian's game column). Johnny's already in touch with me about tweaking the format—I'll have a chance to add some responses the next time around.
I know it's a bitter rivalry and all, but I really like that both sides of it have prominent, independent blogs that do good work (yes, some of the 11W guys get very homery, but so do we, and stuff like Ross Fulton's posts have a level of insight that you just don't find elsewhere, and you all should be familiar with Ramzy's prose by now). I've enjoyed my interactions with Johnny and think it's a very good thing that we're doing some collaboration; hopefully, you'll keep reading them, and I think the posts will only get better from here. This was a first run and we're clearly working out the kinks.

Where you ask him questions and get to throw in stuff after the interview that he can't respond to?
I'd read that. I'd rather not read in someone assisting in people making fun of Michigan.

I liked it a lot, Ace, and would love to read a weekly recap of how OSU looks over here.

Probably mgoblog doesn't have the staff or time to cover Ohio regularly. However, from my perspective, it would be a welcome addition (to hear more about their games, their strengths, weaknesses, challenges, etc.) Is that part of what you see happening with this dialogue, Ace?

If I want to know what's up with Ohio I visit their sites and see, and that's what I do as a matter of fact... They seem to think that Mack is better than Clowney and all that.
September 3rd, 2013 at 5:17 PM ^
11W will find some way to deprecate it. It's normal. Then they'll glorify Braxton Miller and an Ohio win over a San Diego State team that just got their asses handed to them by Eastern Illinois by 21 points at home. Yes, it makes for lousy entertainment, but there's always "The Game" in November, and perhaps likely again in December, which is Michigan's opportunity to set the world to rights.

Michigan Monday is a good read but the 11W guy sure is a twit. Ever any thought of Poster Child for Compliance Monday here?

Ohio dude said "I thought Thomas Rawls (3-12) looked quicker and slimmer than he did a year ago. I was surprised by his burst."
I have to agree with him. Rawls new found Burst was one of the more impressive surprise peformances of the game...right after Graham Glasgow. Hope he keeps it up...

The Eleven Warriors guy is a complete idiot when it comes to football. I have no idea what Michigan / CMU game he watched.... and perhaps he does not either. Complete buffoonery and I wont be visiting that blog any more.

Ginter is pretty funny.
If you have some time to kill, I recommend going back through his posts and looking for his Big 10 state comparisons (state bird, state rock, etc), which were a pretty funny way to kill time over the summer, and his article comparing Brady Hoke and Charlie Weis.

That post is just Johnny. His post is more intended for laughs than heavy analysis and he accomplished that. Honestly, I thought he handled the, "I hate you, but am jealous of your game 1 performance, so I'm going to snark this" angle very well.
At the end of the day, knowledgeable OSU fans know that Michigan showed very well despite the holes UM has (Gardner's occasional bad decisions, new OL interior, missing Ryan, etc.). And we know UM will only gel and improve as the season goes on.
