Jayru Campbell to MSU

Submitted by Allin4Blue on

Per the twitters.  No Michigan offer and there really was no mutual interest.  This kid hails from our Cass Tech pipeline that will likely be owned by our Little Brother in 2015.

I will look foolish if he becomes an All-American someday, but I just watched his highlight video and do not see an elite QB prospect.  I've seen much better talent in the 2015 class.

If he's bent about not getting a Michigan offer, that's just too bad.

just to keep him away from MSU.  But he probably wouldn't have loved being behind Morris and Speight. Oh well, good day for MSU.

Curtis Blackwell, the new recruiting coordinator. We may or may not have offered Campbell, but this is a solid pick up for MSU from a school that has been marked for years with a block M.

We really sound like our rivals when we say "we never offered him"

But the 2014 guys we offered had been in close contact with the M staff for months before the offers went out, and the top guys knew who they were.  And the next group down were told as much as well.  Campbell found himself in (at least) that next group down.  That doesn't mean it's 100% sure he wouldn't be offered, but it's very fair to assume he was very unlikely to be offered.

I thought he would have been a good offer, but the coaches seem to be very careful and deliberate in their approach to offering quarterbacks and that didn't seem to mesh with his timeline.  Good luck to him.

These kids have 2 more years of high school football to play before even getting a dorm room for cripes sakes.  There is so much development ahead of them, especially as a QB that I really don't see how any UM fan could be upset we did not offer a kid just to keep him away from MSU.

I kind of feel like we just expected to offer and get him since he's a BCS level QB from Cass Tech, but I've never thought he looked like a high-end prospect. He'll probably end up a 3* or a 3/4* tweener and be fine, but I've seen no indication that we ever planned to offer him.

Couldn't get into Michigan and went to Staee instead? He'll fit right in.

Just kidding, wish the kid all the best except against us.

Good player from what I've seen and read and I'm sure they'll be a future Saturday where we regret he's not blue but... I think the lack of an offer (or even clearly demonstrated interest) is telling.  The coaches have been very selective with their QB offers and probably could have landed him if they'd made it a priority given all their built-in advantages (Cass Tech pipeline, QB lineage at Michigan, the skill position talent already enrolled / committed that he'd play with, etc.)

My care level is low about this. Coaches didnt offer him and I didn't go "wow" after watching his film. Furthermore in 2015 Wilton Speight will be a sophomore and there's still plenty of time to land players we actually wanted at that position in 2015 in class. Not time to hit the panic button yet

but we weren't going to offer him unless we lost all our plan a,plan b and plan c guys. IF we wanted him we would have offered him earlier don't you think.

I've watched some Cass games. He pretty much never scrambles and takes off on his own. Are people just calling him a "dual-threat" because he's black? Not saying he's bad, I'm just saying he's a pro-style all the way unless I'm missing something.

Also state fans are claiming he chose MSU over Alabama and Michigan... I doubt Bama would take him after getting Ricky Town and Michigan didn't offer. But they can believe whatever makes them feel better I guess.

Just so you know, and I'm pretty sure this is well established at this point, but no Alabama QB initial offers are commitable.  The initial offer is really an offer, or invitation, to be evaluated in person.  I'm guess since it came so early, it was really a "freshman on championship team, get the foot in the door" offer.  If Campbell called Bama, even before their last commit, he would not have been able to commit.

Does anyone know if we ever planned to offer him? I had never heard of him before 'OMG MSU owns Michigan recruiting happened'. Seems like the O-linemen we're interested in right now are Sterling Jenkins and maybe Chuma Edoga
