Countdown Day 27 Q Washington
Q Washington and the D Line

Q has always had a strong speech impediment / social shyness, that was especially tough as a freshman. Through sessions with counselors he's come a long way

Here is a good article about him from last December: http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20121217/PC16/121219440/1032/timberland-s-quinton-washington-finds-success-in-speech-therapy-football-at-michigan
It really shows how far he has come to have the confidence to do an interview like this.

I'm surprised that speech therapy isn't offered in public school in SC (well, not actually surprised, because it's the South) but it's certainly unfortunate.
His interview really was solid though. Well done, Q!

Especially in fine northern cities like Detroit, where the mistakes are locked up, buried, or cast aside.
one of my friends from SC used to say "We may be 49th in public education, but we're number one in domestic abuse." Then he started humming Dixie. Good times.

As a stutterer thanks for that link. I didn't know that about him.
That last paragraph in the article is so true.

...is exactly why scholarships and the opportunity to go to college are so important.
If he never makes another tackle at Michigan he's worth a scholarship if you truly understand how far he's come off the field. The University of Michigan affected a young mans life in ways he could've never comprehended 6-7 years ago.
Q doesn't get into Michigan without football, but it damn near brings me to tears to see him take such advantage of the opportunity to change his life.
People didn't follow his recruitment very much, but the young man could barely talk on camera before coming to Michigan. He also had other social issues. Just the fact that Michigan can help change and provide positive influence has been worth the ride. This doesn't happen if universities aren't allowed to take a few risks.
Good for Michigan and good for Q for taking advantage of the opportunity.

The article in the SC paper made me a bit sandy-eyed. Gonna root for this Michigan Man even more now.

Bring it, Q.

Q is one of my favorite players on the team and I really expct him to have a great senior season. He just keeps improvingeach year. Good kid, great story.

Quinton Washington gave a really nice interview here, and it is very touching in a way to see someone who was, as the article above mentions, once tortured by questions like "What's your name?" to someone who is pretty well-spoken. You can definitely see in the clips that they used how much he loves what he does and his role on the team.
It is interesting to note that of the 32 tackles last season, he managed to get 5 in a game three times, and that includes some good performances against Air Force and Ohio State, as I recall. Of course, there was the sack and the blocked field goal against South Carolina as well. Very excited to see Washington out there this year.
Quinton Washington seemed to really come on strong late last year. I would not be surprised if he doubled or tripled his TFL and sack numbers from last year!
to see Q Washington step up in public leadership as a senior. We've heard how tough this type of thing is for him, and to see him do this speaks to what kind of leadership he exhibits within the locker room and on the field
I was thrilled to know he was next up for an interview. Wow. When he says Michigan changed his life... He may still be soft-spoken, but incredibly well-spoken. Keep the good stories coming. Another one to love.
Really looking forward to seeing him on the field this year. Great guy and great football player!
Q is a very good player. I could see him ending up as a NE Patriot or Giants type team anchoring the inside. He will play on Sunday.
Forgot about that first play against SC. I have high hopes for his senior season.

I know I'm a bit late to watch this, but it's truly amazing the way he talks about the football staff. He is not spouting some random catch phrase he heard the coaches say, you can tell he really respects and admires the coaching staff and wants to win for them. Every program talk about it but this video really makes me believe Hoke and Mattison et al. actually do it.
