Saturday evening sports thread/open thread
In NHL action, Kings v. Blackhawks game one just underway, Bruins v. Penguins at 8:00.
At the WCWS, Tennessee beat Washington, Oklahoma mercied Texas.
Michigan v. Arizona State starts up thirty minutes after Nebraska v. Florida finishes up, that game starts at 7:00 on ESPN. Michigan will either be eliminated or face Washington at 3:30 on June 2.
Oh, and the obvious, what's everybody eating and drinking?
It's... Saturday... RIGHT???
Yeah, that's getting edited. Oops.
I'm not sure if Miguel is human.
Chase Winovich is committing somewhere in the next 15 minutes or so. Either it's a Hello or he's a Pitt Panther - OSU reportedly out.
There isn't a whole lot going on here - just making some chicken marsala and orzo here while I read MGoBlog and watch the Tigers game. I had to chuckle when Prince Fielder popped out for the first out of that last half inning and cheers erupted here and there. Apparently, four home runs later, it's the little things that excite the fans.
As for drinks, we will enjoy a dry Chardonnay with dinner more than likely.
Rooting for the Kings I guess. I hate all the bandwagon and celebrity fans that popped up during the Cup run last year, but Hawks are rivals, can't stand Sid the Kid and hate every Boston sports team sans the Pats and that's only b/c of Tom Brady.
Richards and Carter were reclaimation projects
Too bad they traded Jack mf johnson
Dallas Escobedo (ASU pitcher) isn't on Ricketts level, but she's at least equal to anyone else they've faced. M is 1-0 against ASU this year, Escobedo giving up 5H 5R 5ER 2BB and 10SO. The real concern is that Wagner might not be ready to go. ASU is a great hitting team, and these were the stat lines for the pitchers earlier this year:
Wagner- 4.2IP 10H 4R 4ER 1BB 3SO
Driesenga- 2.1IP 4H 0R 0ER 0BB 2SO
Wagner was pulled in the fourth and brought back in for the seventh. If Driesenga can hold them under five or so (the hits in that box score don't look promising) I think M has a good chance. That's not going to be easy to do, though.
I'm being told that Escobedo will rack up a lot of strikeouts but is susceptible to getting balls jacked out of the park. Hopefully Romero is licking her chops at that idea.
...from scratch garnished with local veggies, with a home-baked loaf of bread and local Amish butter. Now enjoying a dessert Rum n' Coke.
Go Penguins...Go Braves.
I think this Pens-Bruins series will be a good one (no sh*t Sherlock). I see LA up on the Blackhawks 1-0 at first intermission; rootin for the Hawks as a Pittsburgh-Chicago series may draw me to Chicago for a game or two. Never been to a NHL Stanley Cup game. I'd like to very much.
Also, here's to Lebron's quest to annoy Ohioans for all eternity.
Wow. Can you explain how this happens?
- Pitcher fields bunt, makes iffy throw
- 2B misses the catch
- RF comes in for backup, misses the ball off the wall
- Ball bounces fairly deep into right field
- Meanwhile, the girl who bunted was fast (<12s around the bases)
Feet off the ground, elbow to the head. If Bolland isn't gone for two games Shanahan can walk off of a cliff.
The second suggestion might better serve him in the long run in comparison to the first.
And don't be afraid to say "Sorry, I don't understand."
up @ 0430 hrs, work (1/2 hr), reading, work-out, run, barn chores, butchered our steer, pitched batting practice to the three youngest sons, some tractor time, now evening barn chores (as soon as i'm done with this), bbq some very fresh meat and have a glass of cab.
saw the tigers box score - cabrera is in his own league right now. kind of glad the hawks won even though they beat our wings, and would definitely prefer an original six final with the B's if it can be arranged. hope our girls do well at the WCWS tonight - go blue and happy saturday to you all.
Grant Hill is retiring - just saw it on ESPN. Obviously not much of a connection to UM (though his recent verbal battles with the Fab 5 were interesting), but still weird. I remember thinking he'd be an all-time great when the Pistons drafted him. 19 years is a great career in terms of longevity, but after he had those ankle problems he was never the all-around star he showed early on.
Free Molsons and $1 Oberons today. I'm sore as SHIT right now from two hard days of sailing. Got a swollen knuckle on my left hand though I think that might be going down now, matching bruises on my shins and knees, and a huge mystery bruise on my arm that I have NO idea where that came from. (Which is not unusual.) And one more day of racing tomorrow.
Oh yeah I'm in Ohio :/
The $1 Oberons are because Bell's is a huge sponsor of the club that's putting on the races I'm in this weekend and it's a great way to make sure the racers stay around for the after parties each day.
