Post game thoughts PSU
Kenpom is scary good at predictions.
UM vs. PSU - UM by 16 (off by 1)
UM vs IU - IU by 2 (off by 1)
UM @ Purdue - UM by 6 (off by 1)
UM vs MSU - MSU by 1 (off by 2)
Then there's Michigan @MSU, predicted a Michigan win by 1. We lost by 23. In general, Kenpom is good though.
And UM @ PSU (UM by 15)....but I think it's safe to say that both those games were shocking outcomes (outliers). When the outcome isn't shocking, Kenpom generally nails it.
That's a bit of a straw man, no?
Rebounding is the key. The bigs and GR3 and Stauskas all chiiped and UM wins comforably.
Rebounds = win. Even if perimeter D is below average (ie Bad). Second chance points is what kills this team, limit those through TEAM rebounding and we win.
It's all about peaking/gelling/whatever you want to call it at the right time. I think Michigan is there now. Go Blue!
Our foot, meet Wisconsin's throat.
Wisconsin's throat, meet our foot. Our foot was admittedly stuck in our mouth two weeks ago but now that that's out of the way, we're really excited about getting to know you better, Wisconsin's throat.
When you get 23 points off the bench, it's been a good day. I will go home and be happy about this win. Tomorrow is another day full of challenges.
Who's in Chicago for the Tourney?!
I'm about set to buy a ticket, myself (and if not I'll try scalping before the Indiana-Illinois game), and start the weekend off with a Michigan win.
Does the final score obfuscate the team's problems with another the lackuster start? It wasn't as convincing as I needed to feel good about March Madness, but it will have to do. I won't feel great until we thump Wisconsin tomorrow, and even then, until we thump Indiana. Moar defense, please.
Coming into this, everything about the game screamed “slow start.” I’d be a bit worried if it remained close, but we were able to pull away convincingly which is all that really matters, especially because most of our early problems could be attributed to Morgan (for better or worse).
They do have to learn though that starting that slow in the NCAA tournament means your season is over.
BTN interviewing both TH Sr. and Big Dog right now!
Jon Beilein and Bo Ryan? Did I mis hear that?
Wisconsin.......make them cry
"It's time for some get back."
Looked as if GR3 was getting beat off the dribble pretty easily in the first half. Good sign is that it looked like both he and the rest of the team stepped up the D in the second. Keep that mojo going and make some early 3s tomorrow.
but anyone care to explain why the Atlantic 10 tournament is at the Barclays Center if only 100 people are going to show up?
for your poetry reading, Star Wars memorabilia convention, or encounter group. You pay them the money and they don't care how many people show up.
what's the game time for tomorrow vs. wisconsin?
2:30, but there is the Indiana game before it so give or take another 10-30 minutes.
2:30 pm
WE HAZ THEM!!!
Nice to have a mostly stress free 2nd half. Michigan didn't get comfotable and hack up bad jump shots. They contiued to drive to the rim and didn't force shots. GO BLUE BEAT WISCONSIN!
Feels good to outrebound a team, even if it is Penn State. We should probably do that more often.
if we can avoid a slow start and continue the play in second half we should have no problem with the badgers
if we can avoid a slow start
Not to be a deby downer but I think the last time I saw Michigan not get off to a slow start was on Jan. 27th at home against Illinois.
Ed: On second thought, I suppose Sunday against Indiana we looked good to start, and in fact looked good for 39:10 of the game.
One down, nine to go...
Spike Albrecht now 9 for 9 from the foul line in his career. 100%
They allowed 1.11 PPP against PSU (!!!) and blew assignments especially the wing players. The offense masked poor defensive play if you go by box score.
The good new? Michigan offense appears to be on track. Burke had a slow start but finished strong. Ditto with Hardaway. McGary and Horford picked up the slack (McGary at 1st half and Horford at 2nd half). Stauskas and GRIII are back on track. The offense is shaping up in time for NCAA tourney where there's more pace and free flow.
Well, afte the first two games, you now have this outlook for tomorrow:
Purdue / Nebraska | Iowa / NW | EST. PROB. | INDIANA PLAYS | WISCONSIN PLAYS | OSU PLAYS | MICH. ST. PLAYS |
0.67 | 0.78 | 52.260% | ILLINOIS | MICHIGAN | PURDUE | IOWA |
0.67 | 0.22 | 14.740% | ILLINOIS | MICHIGAN | PURDUE | NW |
0.33 | 0.78 | 25.740% | ILLINOIS | MICHIGAN | NEBRASKA | IOWA |
0.33 | 0.22 | 7.260% | ILLINOIS | MICHIGAN | NEBRASKA | NW |
100.000% |
It was a great feeling to watch them pull away like that in the second half - we did a lot of things there that have been a little spotty recently, it seems. In that second half, we got into that rhythm that gets us that very high 1.14 offensive efficiency rating, we capitialized on a few turnovers, and most notably, for the first time in a while, we outrebounded a team both offensively and defensively. Let's roll that performance into tomorrow against the Badgers.
I was soooooooo close to predicting the score!

Looking forward to this game so much. Hope the refs call all of their slappy fouls. Let's have a lead that is larger than 3 points at the end of the game please, k thanks.
If we play like we did in the first 10 minutes, we're not going to make the Sweet 16. If we play like we did in the last 17 minutes, we could make the Final Four. This team is inconsistent, but when they get it all going it's beautiful to watch.
If Hardaway cannot find his shot, we are going to be in big trouble. What is going on with him?
Someone please wake Morgan up though. We may need him tomorrow when we beat the Perry Como of basketball, Wisky.
BTW do Big10 refs fall for every fake foul? It will turn basketball players into Serie A diving soccer players.
Post game interview with Burke, Hardaway Sr, and THE big dog was actually some first rate work done by the Big10 Network. Game announcers were MEH.
funny but you dated yourself lol Barry Manilow would've taken 20 years off your age.

yeah, my kids remind me how old I am every day... Barry Manilow basketball is more varied tempo and more Purdue than Wisky. Watching Wisky in any sport is like those commercials where the dentist is sneezing in the patient's mouth.
did we lose to them!

I was at the game and watching Morgan struggled sucked. He missed so many point blank shots. Watching him play defense wasn't great either as he doesn't move his feet but put his hands in the air hoping to block something? Thank goodness Mcgary was inserted in for Morgan, that helped a ton. Morgan just needs to be more aggresive.
