I hope they sit in a protected box. Sparty fans will be all over them.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:14 PM ^
One point from Hoke and they will back down.
February 12th, 2013 at 7:30 PM ^
It is Sparty...he may need to break out the all powerful double point.
Deal with it, Izzo.

I do not know if it is a Dave Brandon or a Brady Hoke thing, but it seems like Michigan's high profile coaches and athletes are spending a lot more time supporting other Michigan teams during the last few years. Beilein is always talking up Hoke's team and even adopted "ohio," and Michigan football players are always at basketball games (and sometimes other sports as well).
I think recruits across all sports notice this. If I were a high school basketball recruit, I would have been thrilled to attend a game and see guys like Denard Robinson in the stands.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:54 PM ^
I love the support they show each other - Hoke at hockey games, Denard & Kovacs (and 'Tree!) at basketball games... good stuff.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:18 PM ^
to throwdown with Dantonio and Narduzzi.

40 minutes of unnecessary roughness.

Jayru Campbell and Michael Weber will be there as well.

He's got offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, and State. He's won state titles. I think the 16 year old has proven himself to this point. It's not whether he impoves if he gets an offer
It's whether the coaches want a QB like him.

For clarification: are Hoke and Mattison allowed to speak recruits in person tonight?
February 12th, 2013 at 5:33 PM ^
February 12th, 2013 at 6:42 PM ^
I've heard they're not allowed to talk to them.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:24 PM ^
I just want the Izzone to make themselves look stupid in front of all the recruits.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:31 PM ^
Each time Hoke is shown on tv, point at another person in the room. They take a drink.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:35 PM ^
some wiseacre Sparty student media intern puts them on 'kiss cam"? I wouldn't put it past Sparty.

Actually. I would find that very funny and clever. If they did something like that, I would laugh.
This kind of "poking fun" is way too level-headed, clever, and classy for them to ever do it.
EDIT: Crap I thought of something clever after I clicked submit. Brady Hoke is a classy man and would never do it...but if I were in his shoes and they put me on kiss cam, I would kiss my national championship ring and smile.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:43 PM ^
And just point into the camera as he does it.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:37 PM ^
On the flip side, could you just imagine Dantonio sitting courtside at Crisler? I am taking so much pleasure imagining the constipated scowl on his face.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:00 PM ^
Recruits that visit Michigan are too high-profile for Dantonio to even consider.
February 12th, 2013 at 7:36 PM ^
February 12th, 2013 at 5:42 PM ^
This is so strange. I don't think I've ever heard of something like this. I can hardly imagine Dantonio in Crisler.
Can anybody recall another recent instance of an active head coach going to another sport's game, in an opponent's arena?
February 12th, 2013 at 5:44 PM ^
Great minds think alike. I'm not sure if our posts could be any more similar.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:51 PM ^
I was going to add to my post. The only thing remotely similar that I can think of, was Woody Hayes traveling to Oakmont in suburban Pittsburgh with Charlie Nicklaus to watch Charlie's son Jack (I think he may have been an OSU senior at the time) play in a playoff for the U.S. Open against a local western-PA guy named Palmer.

Stealin ur doodz.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:43 PM ^
Wow I love this.
Question for those in the know. Is it normal for a rival school, or a different school, to have coaches attend an away game in order to get in recruits ears? I'm sure this isn't the first time its happened, but I've never heard of it.
Is this fairly common, or is it a tactic used for elite recruits?
Thanks.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:02 PM ^
Technically a recruiting violation and it is in public so it can be caught on camera, so I dont think many schools do it. I doubt Hoke or Mattison talk to the recruits anyways. They probably know its a violation, and all of the recruits will be surrounded by Dantonio and co.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:08 PM ^
Are Malik Mcdowell and Drake Harris on an official visit to MSU? or does it not matter if they are on an official or unofficial?
Thanks.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:16 PM ^
They're on an unofficial. A player can't take an official visit until after the first day of his senior year in high school. It doesn't matter though, Hoke is not allowed to have face-to-face contact with them unless he is at their school or they are in Ann Arbor.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:42 PM ^
13.02.4 Contact
A contact is any face-to-face encounter between a prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete’s parents, relatives or legal guardians and an institutional staff member or athletics representative during which any dialogue occurs in excess of an exchange of a greeting...
So not only can Hoke and Mattison go to the game at Breslin, they can walk up to a certain recruit and say, "Hiya, Drake!" And leave it at that. And they can say hi to the parents, too. Because that's just the kind of recruiting guys that they are.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:10 PM ^
What's the violation? You've really got me curious now.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:17 PM ^
recruiting cannot take place 30+ miles from the campus. Technically, that's the violation M committed when the Traylor/Taylor/Cleaves roll over happened.
Tho, that's on official vistits, I believe. I can't imagine these guys on an Official to M in EL.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:45 PM ^
Replied, to spartanfan123 above...
February 12th, 2013 at 5:48 PM ^
I've never heard of anything like this. Many State fans are going to be livid at the thought of Hoke recruiting at the Breslin. Think how many on this blog would react if Dantonio came to a game at Crisler I hope Hoke is man enough to withstand the clever fat jokes aimed in his direction.
In your face MSU. They might as well bring Juwan Howard along to wipe his ass at center court
February 12th, 2013 at 6:32 PM ^
"Think how many on this blog would react if Dantonio came to a game at Crisler..."
Probably laugh. How about Urban Meyer in Crisler?
February 12th, 2013 at 6:44 PM ^
Using this blog as a gauge, I think Dantonio is hated more than Meyer at this point. The question might make an interesting topic

The coaching staff as tried very hard to embrace the whole of Michigan athletics whenever possible, and it is great to see them take that attitude on the road. I can imagine a scenario where that display of community tilts a recruit for, say, basketball (in this instance) in our direction if he sees that coaches from other sports are willing to support him this way.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:54 PM ^
I hope they bring a few linemen with them to quiet the crowd.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:20 PM ^
Not to worry. Hoke will probably leave Breslin with a couple of MSU lineman defecting to the Light.
Brandon should send some vendors along to hawk some WE ON T-shirts
February 12th, 2013 at 6:15 PM ^
Good. After we beat their ass in basketball, all their visiting recruits can commit to Hoke and Mattison right on the Breslin floor. It would be the most legendary act in the history of mankind. (At least as far as recruiting goes.)
