OT: Rick Majerus has passed away
Incredibly sad to hear that Rick Majerus died today at the age of 64. I always enjoyed watching his teams play...that Utah squad back in the 90s was unreal for a mid-major.
RIP big guy. He was fantastic on broadcasts in-between coaching stints.

Majerus always came across as one of the genuinely good guys. A funny guy, and a good coach. He took Ball St to the second round of the tournament in '89, the year M won the championship; and had a nice run at Utah. RIP

Seemed like a good natured guy and heck of a coach.

I have never met anyone who didn't like Rick Majerus. We will miss you big fella!

Loved watching Utah for many of their NCAA tournament runs.
I just wish this guy could have coached longer.
My condolences and prayers for the family!

Sad to hear. 64 is too young, though I know he's had health problems for some time now. Loved his teams at Utah.

I used to love watching his Utah teams back in the day. RIP Coach.

My favorite thing about the big fat man was that he loved to be naked. Lots of great stories about it. Use google. Too many to link.

I went to school at U of U for a little while in the mid/late 90's and loved this guy. He had a great team with Van Horn, Doleac, Andre Miller and Hanno Mettola. I would see him out around town all the time...ALWAYS eating. Craziest thing is that he never had a house there. He lived out of a hotel. Always thought that was odd but a part of his unique personality. He'll be missed.

I also went to the U of U in the mid/late 90's. I was going to post almost the exact same thing...how Majerus lived in a hotel, was always around town going out to eat, heck of a coach, etc.
I'll never forget when Majerus's team made that incredible NCAA tourney run, where they made it all the way to the championship game, before losing to Kentucky. He put Utah basketball on the map. Sadly, they haven't been the same since he left Utah. RIP Coach Majerus. You were a great coach, and a great tv analyst. You will be missed.

I'm sure nobody was surprised by the news, because of his history of health problems, but it's still very, very sad. Majerus is one of "those guys" who could have lived to 90 and still left the world wishing he had a few more years.
RIP, Coach.

He was a tremendous coach, but we always rooted for him to lose in the tournament so he would become a commentater.

Rick Majerus single handedly won me an NCAA Pool.
RIP basketball jones.

A former classmate of mine played for him at Ball State the year they almost took down eventual national champion UNLV in the 1990 tourney (69-67). UNLV was considered invincible, but Majerus almost did it with Ball State players.
