Report on Raymon Taylor?
I haven't seen a report on Raymon Taylor yet. He looked to be in a lot of pain. Courtney Avery came in and did a nice job, with the Sparty offensive staff clearly looking to pick on him, but Maxwell not seeing anything on Avery's side of the field.
I'm hoping against hope that the report on Taylor won't be too bad.

I heard it was a boo boo. Does that help?

I think Hoke called it a "boo boo" in the post-game presser.
Interesting that he'd comment on it ... normally he claims he doesn't know details about such things.

And the location is "somewhere on his body." We got that part cleared up.
Edit. - Hoke transcript: "...a little boo boo..." So a 'little boo boo'<'[standard] boo boo'. But it may be that all boo boos are little. Just one kind of boo boo. Don't ask.

Honey Boo Boo. That would be career ending...

Don't know, but I have wondered. we desperately need to avoid another spot on the "Never Forget" Banner.

His elbow bent in a way that it probably shouldn't. He hyperextended it, if that's even a legitimate elbow injury, but that's what happened.

several times. Looks like he hyper-extended his left elbow when he braced himself falling on that play out of bounds. Whether it's a joint or ligament issue or a torn biceps muscle, either way, it will be tough for him to play the next couple of weeks. The pass rush will have to improve to take the heat off the secondary.

He did exactly what Rajon Rondo did in the playoffs. Fell and his arm took too much weight and bent backwards. He should be sore but I'd expect him to maybe miss one week.
October 21st, 2012 at 11:59 AM ^
I did exactly that to myself once. Hyperextended my elbow by falling on it backwards and landing every pound of my weight on it. I had to hold my arm like it was in a sling for about three days (probably should have been in a sling) because I couldn't move my elbow from a 90 degree bend without excruciating pain, and then I gradually got my motion back and it was back to normal about three days after that. If that's what Taylor did then I don't expect him to practice this week but I'd be cautiously optimistic he could play next Saturday depending on the severity.

Was it me or JT Floyd played a hell of a game today? I recall some nice pbu's and real nice run support.I think he even took care of the fullback in a 3rd and goal.

but he was also 15 yds off the MSU receivers a ton and give up stupid little curl routes for 1st downs a ton. Obviously, this could be defensive play calling but it was driving me nuts

They sure picked on him a lot.

He was much better coming forward than going backward. He let some receivers get open deep, but Maxwell couldn't hit them and Burbridge couldn't reel his in.

I'm personally thinking back to the season preview podcast when Brian was happy with our secondary depth because 'corners don't get injured that often'. Now down two starting corners...thanks Brian.

is there any reason to believe he won't be okay? it hardly seems like a career-threatening injury.

Saw this on Ace's twitter: http://gif.mocksession.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/HYPEREXTENSION.gif
That can't be good.

...Dislocations, or not. Fractures, or not. Ligament tears, or not. A lot more information, beyond "a boo boo" would help. I expect to learn any relevant details here, as opposed to from a Hoke presser.

its the week you play Taylor Martinez, am I right?
October 21st, 2012 at 3:34 AM ^
Unfortunately, he leads the Big Ten in passing efficiency.
(BIG TENNNNNNN!!!!!)

Outside of one poor performance against OSU, Martinez is having an excellent season throwing the ball. Really a remarkable turnaround for a kid who threw like a 6-year old girl until this year.

I took my nephews over to get autographs after the game and saw him. He was in a soft cast. He didn't look like he was in pain signing autographs for all the kids. Though he didn't grab the football/papers with his hurt arm.

I'm no doctor, but the look of it suggests to me he won't play for a bit ... quite unlikely this week imo.
With that said, I wonder how the CB rotation looks now? I would guess Avery starts on the outside. Against Nebraska we'll probably play a lot of nickle ... so who goes in at slot corner ... TRich?
October 21st, 2012 at 11:37 AM ^
Has been the go-to nickel back in previous weeks when we were juggling personnel post-Countess. (And yes, the CB job goes to Avery first and foremost. So Avery at CB and Wilson in some enhanced nickel packages.)
btw: Watch Jarrod Wilson on the kickoff return that became the last play of the game. While the Spartans were trying to go all California, Wilson stayed in his lane, watched the next guy to get flipped the ball, and just nailed him with a pure, solid, wrap-up tackle. It was the kind of little play that wins games.

The secondary is well coached. We are worlds better from a technique stand point. We have players that may be limited physically, but they are at least in a position to make a play or make the tackle. JT Floyd has really improved. Taylor has started to play with aggressiveness and confidence. I can't wait to see what happens once we coach up these athletes in waiting.

It sure seems like Hoke's "boo-boo" descriptor encompasses everything from scrapes to torn ACLs.
