| 4 days 7 hours ago | This conference realignment |
This conference realignment will be motivated by football primarily with thought given to academics as well. Like we saw with Kansas and the big 12 basketball or lacrosse for that matter will have next to no significance in this. |
| 4 days 7 hours ago | They probably aren't going to |
They probably aren't going to have much of a choice. Very few conferences are going to be lining up to add duke because they just aren't a good football school. UNCs best bet would be the big ten and I would imagine they would jump at the chance to have some stability in this conference realignment madness. |

Because of our combination of tradition, stability, academics and most attractively revenue, the B1G is in a great position to compete for any school in expansion consideration. I think we should basically tell ND that it's time to get on board and then go hard after Virginia, Virginia tech and north Carolina. This gives us 4 good to great academic schools and also 4 potentially very good football programs that will make us as deep and competitive as any league including the SEC. We also expand into the fertile recruiting grounds of Virginia and north Carolina. |

I agree and love the conference as it is currently but if we had to go to 16 teams I wouldn't mind seeing Virginia Tech, Virginia, Notre Dame and one of Pitt, UNC, Duke or Georgia Tech added. Then we could split into 2 divisions with one being Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana and Minnesota and the other being Notre Dame, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Virginia, Northwestern, Illinois and Georgia Tech. We could have a 9 game conference schedule and play 2 crossover games per year + a very interesting B1G Championship game. An added bonus is that Michigan and Ohio State would be able to play once a year basically for the "old" Big ten title and the winner would play the winner of the other division, probably a very good ND, PSU or VT team. Would prefer to stick to the way things are but I wouldnt hate seeing something along those lines. |
| 2 weeks 6 days ago | This is a tough topic for me |
This is a tough topic for me to find a position on beacuse I really see valid points on all sides. I loved playing this game in high school and all that it taught me but like countless, I did suffer at least a few concussions. I now wonder whether or not it is worth playing from a high school and college athlete's perspective. Unlike pro players the average high school athlete has no shot of making anything significant out if his football career and is just playing for the love of the game. My worry is that these guys, who's main assets in the long term are their brains, are potentially risking their future for a few years of amateur football. This is what scares me the most going forward because the youth of our country are in the crossfire of this debate and hopefully some type of solution can be reached that allows the game that we all love to be played while significantly decreasing the risk of potentially debilitating concussions. |
| 3 weeks 14 hours ago | Brandon isn't exactly |
Brandon isn't exactly reversing his opinion, he's just accepting what is now becoming a forgone conclusion in a 4 team playoff. I dont get why that is controversial enough to get written about here. Actually, I don't really understand the hate towards Brandon in general as he is the man who brought us Hoke when it was unpopular to do so and despite some of his failings has been pretty good as an AD. |
| 3 weeks 6 days ago | Yeah I think far too much is |
Yeah I think far too much is put into Ohio states losses to Florida and Lu's and how that somehow means that big teams are automatically unathletic. I don't know for sure but I think based on the way those OSU teams played that their main problem was a lack of preparation or desire not talent or athleticism. Also, we are recruiting talented olinemen who have offers from the Alabamas USCs and Ohio States of the world, meaning that they have some good athletic ability to go along with their size. I've said this before but if you want to see the future of our program, with the way we are stockpiling talent, you only need to look to Alabama. Big, physical, athletic defenses and a overpowering, ball control offense. This was the formula to beating Meyer at Florida and it will do the same at Ohio State. |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | Yeah I have seen this |
Yeah I have seen this argument that they bring in a lot of money for their schools and should be paid many times now. Like you said above, most Universities actually lose money but in addition to that I think that these athletes get payment enough in basically getting a free education. I look at the current scholarship situation as an opportunity for athletes to recieve training for future careers (not in professional sports) while also being able to audition for a chance at a pro athletic career / play the sport that they love. Becuase they work very hard and are beneficial to the University, they are rewarded with a free education. Also, paying players will decrease the importance of choosing a school based off of academics because athletes will be less likely to see getting a great education as a valuable investment. |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | It differs because each case |
It differs because each case is different. You should not just uniformly redshirt all freshmen because they are Freshmen. Especially when you recruit like Michigan has been recruiting, there will always be talent to come in and replace those who graduate. I am not that mad that Campbell didnt redshirt, more that he recieved terrible coaching until Hoke was hired. |
| 8 weeks 1 day ago | Agree with you completley. |
Agree with you completley. Football is a game of technique and intensity and when you get 11 guys running to the football and playing with great fundamentals then good things will happen. Maybe you will or maybe you wont get as many turnovers, but you will play great defense and consistently great defense leads to championship caliber teams. |
