Morning Open Thread: Notre Dame vs Navy
Let's count the ways this doesn't make sense.
- 9am EST kickoff. By the time the West Coast rolls out of bed, the game will be over.
- No five star tailbacks in Ireland.
- Jetlag and other distraction slows preparation for Week 2.
- Seriously Navy, you're an American service academy playing a game in Ireland?
- The jerseys.
Edit: The jerseys are not being worn today, but they still suck.

I like Fowler. I'm sure you have your reasons, but I think he's a good host.

But that's what all of us said once Fitz got the DUI. We all said "This is a no-brainer: he should be suspended", and that's what writers in general stated. Now, if an ND guy did the same and Kelly doesn't suspend him for the first game, it may be true that Fowler doesn't say anything, but I think he may make one of his common sarcastic replies making fun of that program.

Texas A&M had a suspension, but cherry-picked the game. (Hint: It was not the Florida game.)
This kind of token crap happens all the time. Hoke really does deserve credit.

Check out Desmond on Gameday. Did he fight a Balrog or something?

Every offseason I forget how much I love Desmond. He is awesome.

He must be a Marine.

Criqui did the Patriots preseason games. It was so terrible. He did not know what was going on half the time.

All Criqui references demand this clip to be played:

Dumb play by Navy

These early season creampuff games, I don't really know what to take from them, but the ND offense looks pretty good.
September 1st, 2012 at 10:29 AM ^
Navy is so overmatched up front that it isn't necessary for ND to even throw the ball. ND is doing what they are supposed to do.

ND's CBs are terrible. As long as our o-line holds up we should be fine against them.

Their DL doesn't seem to generate much of a rush either.

That guy is having some fun!!!!

weren't so damned modest. (Old guy rumblings.)

Go Navy!

I love when Brian Kelly gets pissed and looks like an exploding tomato.
September 1st, 2012 at 11:14 AM ^
I like hearing the crowd get noisy when Navy makes it 2nd and 15.
September 1st, 2012 at 11:24 AM ^
This is either the best ND team in a while or the worst Navy team in a while. Thoughts?
September 1st, 2012 at 12:07 PM ^
ND has a good OLine.
Navy has an undersized front 7..
ND's secondary looks suspect and their D-coordinator knows it; lots of soft zone.
The ND D-line without Lynch doesn't look all that good.
Michigan's D-line needs to draw against the ND O-line.
Denard and Fitz will be running wild against the ND defense.
If Michigan has any semblance of a passing game, maybe a long day for the Irish.
September 1st, 2012 at 12:09 PM ^
Running wild? They held Navy to 100 yards rushing.
September 1st, 2012 at 1:19 PM ^
I have more confidence in the Michigan offensive line opening up holes for Denard and Fitz, than I did Navy's smaller, less talented offensive line opening up holes for a slower option QB, and smaller, slower RBs.
No disrespect to the Middies (I live 20 miles away from Annapolis) but they aren't on the same level as the Michigan football team.
September 1st, 2012 at 1:30 PM ^
They also run, thats about all they do. Holding a triple option team to 100 yards rushing is incredible.
September 1st, 2012 at 3:15 PM ^
Considering what's happened the last few times you've played Navy, it is incredible. For the rest of us, shutting down a service academy isn't something to brag about
September 1st, 2012 at 4:46 PM ^
Well since an inferior service academy is coming your way shortly, I guess we'll just see. Besides whos bragging? Your friend noted that Fitz and Denard were going to run all over us. I was debating his logic. But I get the Trolling moderation.

Using my double post to update -- haven't seen much of the game but it look like Navy is getting taken to the woodshed
September 1st, 2012 at 11:27 AM ^
Meh. I think I'm going to turn this game off. But I would first like to say fuck Brian Kelly and fuck Notre Dame.
I'm sure as soon as this game is over, Lou Holtz will say ND is officially national title contenders.
September 1st, 2012 at 11:29 AM ^
I really feel bad for that kid who just got Feherty'd.

Denard Robinson's in the house!

Not sure the exact numbers, but Navy was hoping to break even and ND was looking to make a decent amount of money. Navy was the home team.
September 1st, 2012 at 1:31 PM ^
Not sure how much money one expects to make when shipping over 20K pounds of material over for the game.
