LSU comes knocking for Penn State QB Rob Bolden . . .
Can't say I blame the kid . . .
Other sites say he is no longer on the PSU roster
Les wants another mobile quarterback who can't hit the side of a barn with his arm?
We're throwing arms now?
On Z-Day, things are bound to get a little bit morbid.
Habit from my father; I'm lazy with my pronouns.
I thought it was just how I speak; I realize it has transferred unto my typing skills as well.
Les Miles is hell bent on having the least effective quarterback as possible to completely minimize the great talent they have on offense.
So he wants a worse version of Jordan Jefferson?
Bolden repeatedly lost head-to head battles with walk on QB McGloiFavre. Then, as a result of his discontent, he tries to transfer and is repeatedly denied (which you may or may not feel was a kosher thing for PSU to do). So naturally, one of the best teams of the last decade swoops in to offer him a scholarship the second he is allowed to finally transfer. I get Bolden's decision, but what does the mad hatter see in this guy?
That's 5.
He's just an overall excellent athlete. That doesn't always translate to a QB. Saw the kid play in high school and he was very good.
Maybe he just isn't in the right offense or is just another guy that can't compete at the next level.
Probably needed the luxury of a RS to be honest. Most QBs do. That said, 2010 state of Michigan QB class has lost some of it's luster:
Boisture - bust (injury?, can't remember)
Bolden - bust so far
Gardner - TBD
He was terrible in every single game that I've seen. Didn't understand the high recruiting ranking.
Hasn't he been trying to get out there for a while? I seem to recall he was denied transfer requests before, no?
If Penn State was less dickish, he would have already been gone...
What if the player doesn't want to go to a Big Ten school?
wherever he wants to go.
A star trek joke is in here somewhere
He should only be able to go wherever he wants if he can travel at warp 9....make it so #1, Data....engage!
In all seriousness, I hope he gets to go where he has a chance to compete and have a semblance of a career, JoePa screwed him over, IMO, just like he screwed over the program by his selfishness in letting a disgusting creep keep an office at the Football facilities despite knowing of his actions many years earlier.
To Bold(en) go where no man has gone before.
Ha! I see what you did!
*If* Les Miles can make something out of Rob Bolden at quarterback in the SEC imagine what he could have done had he spotted a ginger haired walk on named Matt only four years ago...
Free market, free decisions.
Bolden always had potential. His problem, like most other PSU recruits was that Jay Paterno was awful at coaching. If he worked at it, maybe Bill O' Brien could have made him into something.
on QB's. Never heard of Mettenberger and the other two guys are RS Fr. Bolden immediately becomes the most experienced LSU QB because he's actually played college football.
8 | Zack Mettenberger | 6-5 | 222 | Jr.
17 | Stephen Rivers | 6-7 | 220 | Fr.-RS
15 | Jerrard Randall | 6-1 | 180 | Fr.-RS |
Mettenberger is a JUCO QB who began at Georgia. he's a far, far better player than Bolden. He was better than the two senior qbs above him, but the Hatter kept him off the field.
Yeah, Mettenberger should be decent if not good. I saw him at Georgia's spring game before he was booted when both he and Aaron Murray were freshman and he looked to be the better of the two. Caveats apply about development, it just being one game and a glorified scrimmage at that, and that I am and have always been just a fan, but the guy looked like a gamer. Big arm, too, if I'm remembering correctly. I walked out of Sanford Stadium saying he would start over Murray, then he promptly got booted off the team.
They want the competition and then have an experienced back up. It’s a good fit for both Bolden and LSU.
Mettenberger will be the starter this Fall.
Hes been wanting to leave for years.. He saw a shoot, and is gonna take it. Hackenberg is gonna take over nxt yr so I cant blame him
I doubt Hackenberg stays...
So far he's making public claims that he's in for the long haul at PSU.
I wonder where he'll be a year from now?
I'd hate to see the offensive line he has to throw behind.
On purpose?
This makes way too much sense.
agreed.
I always felt bad for Bolden. He kept getting benched, kept trying to transfer, kept getting stonewalled (either denied his transfer or talked into staying), only to keep getting benched. That kid has should have left years ago.
Why LSU wants him (cue Jordan Jefferson joke) is beyond me, but good for Bolden for finally getting out after years of trying.
Boom Shawshank'd!
Also, I can totally see LSUFreek making a gif of Tim Robbins/Rob Bolden in the creek outside of the prison in the storm.
Best of luck to the lad. My only question is: Why not just move to arena ball? It pays better than the SEC....
In other news, USC backup QB Max Wittek seems to have violated NCAA rules by contacting PSU RB Silas Redd about playing for USC.
