Potential MGoBlog HoF Inagural Candidates
I figured this would be the easiest way to compile a list of potential inagural class candidates. The 190 comment thread would be a difficult place to keep track, so here we can be a little more organized. Make suggestions and I'll add them to the lists. Since this is just a way to keep track of potential candidates, feel free to throw out some "maybes." Mods, feel free to edit the OP accordingly.
This may also help keep that initial thread focused on the manner in which people are elected, etc. Without further adieu...

Alan Branch? I still get chills when I see the picture of the Penn State QB annihilation

Lloyd Carr

First ballot coach inductee... I like it. No reason he shouldn't be in this hall

Is Tacopants ever going to eligible for the HOF?
Also, for olympic sports...the Vanderkaay brothers, the two ice dancers (not varsity UM, but still olympians)

But the more I think about it, the more I think Zoltan needs to be the introductory member. If there are a certain set of values we hold as fans of Michigan athletics, Zoltan exemplifies every single one of them, and is outstanding in most areas, if not all.

agree on Zoltan, but isn't a lowly blog HOF kind of beneath him? I mean he is a freakin' space emperor, I think some sort of intergalactic emperor of space pantheon might be more appropriate for him.

[I]sn't a lowly blog HOF kind of beneath him?
Nope. Actually, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that Zoltan is a poster/diarist who specializes in charts? charts and has 10,000+ points.

Woodley, Jake Long, David Harris, and David Molk.

Trevor Yealy for lacrosse (2012).
Mark Mitera for hockey (2009).
Chad Kolarik for hockey (2008).

I would add Bree Evans, who is in her final year.

For me, Louis Caporusso is a MUST. He may not have completely lived up to some people's expectations, but he was a solid player who also found his way into our hearts with his Valentine's Day video (in case you forgot, see this). He was my favorite player (asides from Carl) my Junior and Senior year (when they were sophomores and juniors, respectively). Although he did not turn out to be the next-great-diminutive center, he's definitely one of my favorites, and at the very least worth consideration
February 29th, 2012 at 9:05 PM ^
But he's always going to be remembered as the player who never was. So much talent, just way to streaky to be truly considered great. Even in his All-American season he would disappear for long stretches, I can't explain it but he always had the potential for 60 point years and put up 40 instead.
Edit: Love expert was funny, but this was my favorite Louie memory.
February 29th, 2012 at 10:23 PM ^
thought he would turn out to be an amazing player as well. not that he wasn't good, but not as great as I had hoped
February 29th, 2012 at 8:53 PM ^
you did get NCAA Champ Kellen Russell, but you forgot the 2009 NCAA Champ at 174 pounds, Steve Luke. He was 32-0 his senior year at Michigan.

Jordan Taylor from softball.
Otherwise great list!
February 29th, 2012 at 9:56 PM ^
- Meryl Davis and Charlie White silver medalists in 2010 winter olympics, ice dancing.
- Jerome Singleton, silver medalist 100m dash and gold medalist in 4x100m in 2008 paralympic games.
- Peter Vanderkay 2008 Olympic gold medalist 4x200 freestyle relay.
- Betsey Armstrong silver medalist 2008 Olympics as US women's water polo goalie.
February 29th, 2012 at 10:05 PM ^
Did Davis and White ever compete on behalf of Michigan?
Also, all Vanderkays should be included :)
February 29th, 2012 at 10:23 PM ^
Michigan doesn't have an ice dancing team, and I'm not sure such a thing exists collegiately. They both competed as current students, though.
And talked up UM at any chance they got.
February 29th, 2012 at 10:15 PM ^
How does the cut off year of 2005 play for sports that cross over years? Like the 2004-05 hockey season, would those players be eligible since their last year was 2005? Or are we starting with the 2005-06 season? If '04-'05 players count, then I'd nominate Jeff Tambellini from the hockey team.
February 29th, 2012 at 10:22 PM ^
someone probably mentioned this, but someone like Darius Morris is a little questionable. On the yes side: he did do a lot and almost beat Duke in the tournament last year, but at the same time he was only here for 2 years.
February 29th, 2012 at 10:41 PM ^
He beat State twice in a year in the first time in a long time (with a healthy dose of Get The Fuck Off My Court), and really spearheaded the Michigan Basketball rennaissance. Not saying he's a lock, but he's in the conversation.
I'm gonna enjoy these debates.
February 29th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
Um...you left off....Michael Phelps. In "real life" it is insane watching him swim, it is inhuman....dude has gills. Oh and Lungs too.....puff puff.
February 29th, 2012 at 11:15 PM ^
Never competed for Michigan.
February 29th, 2012 at 11:13 PM ^
I bet no one on this blog can name more than ten people who provided more joy to Michigan fans from 2006-2009 than Weis E. Coyote.
How about Daniel Horton? He played from 2003-2006 and really saw us through some of the dark ages. He was MVP of the NIT tournament, and 1st Team Big Ten.
As a senior, he averaged 17.6 points, 5.3 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.94 steals while also leading the Wolverines in scoring, assists and steals. Additionally, he is top 5 career-wise for most of the usual point guard criteria.
Seems like a worthy addition, IMHO.
They might not have gotten much ink on this blog, but Chris Cameron and Kylee Botterman won national all-around championships and Michigan Athlete of the Year awards. I would think that should at least get them on the ballot.
I was going to say that Kylee Botterman should be in included on the ballot as well. Great athlete and she was really hot.
And David Harris left after 2006, that still hasn't been fixed
No, Steve Breaston?
Agreed. Gotta have crazy legs.
I think we need to include Big Play Hemingway!!! Put Junior in there for this year.
Olympic list should include Nick Willis, 2005. He was an NCAA champion, and won the silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in the 1500 (Originally bronze, but later silver when 2nd place guy tested positive).
On the subject of Track+Field, Nate Brannen, 2004 was a 3xNCAA champion, and 2008 Olympian. On the woman's side, Tiffany Ofili (2009) won 5 NCAA champions, and Geena Gall (2009) won 2.
All of these people have many Big Ten Championships, All-Americans, etc.
Lloyd Brady
i think all the cries of '"you have to include Player X." which seems to include all UM players since 2005 are proof that we need an extreemely high threshold to vote someone.in.
If you're gonna put Horton in there I think Harris has to be in there as well. He carried the team along with Horton and after he left. Some good NIT memories... if those even exist
If you look back in the mgoblog archives on blogspot, Brian wrote both midseason and year-end grade columns for the '04-'05 hockey team, so they should definitely be included in the mgoblog era. Therefore, the following players should be considered for nomination:
Milan Gajic
Eric Werner (wasn't ever a star, but was frequently referenced around these parts for his swashbuckling ways)
Al Montoya
Jeff Tambellini
TJ Hensick
Also, if while we are nominating, I think Scooter Vaughn deserves consideration for what he did as a senior, especially in the playoffs leading up to the national title game.
Also, also, there are a whole bunch of guys out of that 2005 hockey senior class that maybe deserve nominations (Moss, Nystrom, etc.)
the whole thread but saw Zoltan nominated.
If we nominate Zoltan, shouldn't a person like David Cone (aka The Coner, aka The Notorious C.O.N.E., aka Febreeze) be nominated??
What would 2008/9 have been like without Febreeze to take our minds off of that pitiful season??
The inclusion of football players that never participated on a team that beat Ohio should be strictly prohibited. FerGodsakes!
Excluding MIke Hart, Chad Henne, and Brandon Graham on those grounds would be damn near criminal.
but I also think we need to have a "veteran" section of the MgoHallOfFame, for guys like Woodson, Brady, Biakabatuka....
I think we should put in one vet a year and this year I nominate Barry Larkin
