Best weekend of the season so far??
Between Michigan looking awesome and both sides of the ball and OSU looking almost MAC'ish it's been great. Also after this weekend I'm REALLY glad we don't have to play Wisonsin!! One last thing after this weekend I really don't see a game that we cant win. Going into the season there was 2-4 games I thought we had a slim chance to win but now I think Ill. and Neb. look like our only 2 tough games. What say's you?

Slight correction there...
<br>We WILL be playing Wisconsin in the B1G championship game.

OSU and MSU have opportunities to upset. But they're about the only ones.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:08 AM ^
Notre Dame weekend was 100x better....because well that game was sweet and well...minnesota not so much. We played better against minnesota, but it's minnesota, the crowd stopped harassing them after we got up by like 6 scores
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:20 AM ^
the ending was sweet, but we played badly in many respects, generated offense/points mainly in unsustainable ways, and only won because they played worse. after that game, it wasn't clear we'd fare much better than last year's 7-5. but after this weekend, things look much different.

I would throw @Iowa in that same bag of tough games. Depending on how our game @NW turns out, there's a good chance I will stop being as nervous about Illinois. They don't seem legit to me...
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:23 AM ^
about Iowa that could be a tough game too
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
Iowa is never an easy place to win. Don't they have some ridiculous win percentage at their home stadium? [EDIT] Here's an article I found making my point.

Let's pray that the Iowa game isn't a night game.

The Zook factor comes into play. You never know which team will show up when he is the coach. He is usually great at "bullying" lesser teams, but often sucks when a coaching decision can win or lose a game.
Zook's "strength" is playing ordinary football and waiting for the opponent to self-destruct. I don't see Michigan self-destructing against Illinois this year.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:10 AM ^
Dude, OSU will be a tough game.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:16 AM ^
OSU squeaked by Toledo at home (MAC team with losing record), got destroyed by a Miami team that looks to be not very good (2-2) and lost to an unranked Sparty team at home. I know you're obligated to say that and you may be right. But as of right now, I can't blame the OP for not mentioning them in this context.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
Didn't Ohio play with three starters on suspension for the first five games and yet were in yesterday's game with 10 seconds left with no QB to speak of. I would never overlook that team.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:33 AM ^
did you watch it?? I live in Ohio and watched it with bucknut fans and they never felt "in the game". That was a 10-7 blow out. Yes OSU can still be good but come on you have to admit you feel pretty good about that game right now, right??
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
I watched the game. MSU scored a total of ten points against the most inept and impotent O I have seen Ohio show in years. When your D holds the other team to ten points, you are in the game. It was difficult to show any positive feelings toward either team as I despise them both. I believe both teams have better D's than what we have seen from any of our five opponents to date.
I feel that we have a better shot of beating Ohio this year than we have had for a while. After the last couple of years, I also do not let myself become wildly optimistic, lest my spirt again be crushed. If we win the next two games, that will change.
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:21 PM ^
"and yet were in yesterday's game with 10 seconds left"
No they weren't...
October 2nd, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
I know we can't overlook them, but getting back those 3 guys on offense won't make them significantly better. the offensive line was sieve-like so just getting back their LT won't solve that issue, and they still have quarterbacks on par or worse than sheridan and threet. even when they get posey back, bauserman/braxton won't be able to get it to him. they're going to continue sucking
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
As a random guy on the internet, I guarantee you that the Ohio game will be highly contested.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:57 AM ^
I don't care if they are 0-25, going into The Game, Ohio will be ready to play just as we will. It will be a great game.
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:41 PM ^
You mean those cheaters are breaking the twelve game rule and the NCAA isn't doing anything? Assholes...
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:17 AM ^
We have also lost 7 years in a row, and while I'm enjoying watching them at the moment, that streak means I'm going to keep my mouth shut until it ends. Their quarterbacks have the rest of the season to get comfortable for that game, and judging by the way they are playing, that game will be their super bowl.
And if you think MSU isn't a tough game, you are out of your mind.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:13 AM ^
ND weekend was definitely better. Didn't OSU lose to Miami that weekend too?
That said, we will need a few breaks, but so far dominos are falling for us. Everyone on our schedule looks beatable. Yes, i still think we lose a couple games, but I am more optimistic than ever.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:28 AM ^
OSU lost to Miami the next week, that week was the Toledo debacle. The next week was OSU and MSU losing, a very good weekend as well.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:16 AM ^
Maybe you think Sparty should just forfeit?
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:17 AM ^
If the Tigers and Lions win today. Then it will be a pretty good one.

No. The dolphin doesn't die. In fact I'm pretty sure the dolphin in the movie is the actual dolphin the movie is based on.

Not even close but a good win and OSU looking like shit seems to have a made an impression on Dunn. It is starting to sound like he may be coming over to the good side.

The Tigers game really bummed me out, so I don't think I could agree with that.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:23 AM ^
I think the best part about that MSU-OSU game is that both teams look very beatable now. MSU only scored once off a play where there should have been a penalty called, and OSU....well they have their own Threet/Sheridan combo at QB now. So I'm feeling pretty good about the rest of the year.
Also, Persa might be out next week against us, so that game got a little easier
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
I'm not a baseball fan so I never even thought of that about this weekend. Sorry to you Tigers fans, hopefully they can pull out the series.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:44 AM ^
....to overlook OSU. Barring injuries, everyone will be back by then, and although lacking leadership and direction and, for the most part, an offense, they are an above average team overall and they will be stoked for this game, as we will be. It's going to be a good game, but a damn tough one.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:48 AM ^
I think 6 of the 7 games left on the schedule have the potential to be tough. We're not good enough to just chalk up wins over NW, MSU, Iowa and OSU+Tat4. While I think we've performed towards the high end of expectations the last couple weeks, there's still potential to drop a game or two of those four listed above, there's also potential to beat Illinois and Nebraska. I guess what I'm saying is, we just don't know enough about us and about the rest of the Big Ten yet.
October 2nd, 2011 at 11:49 AM ^
The state of Michigan was perfect in FBS football yesterday. U-M, MSU, EMU, CMU and WMU all won. I don't know when's the last time that happened - probably many years ago.
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:01 PM ^
could be a loss, although Purdue looks as close to a win as possible. The good news is that every game on the rest of our schedule also looks winnable which I might not have thought at the start of the year.
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
I think this post is a good example of how it's going to take some time to get used to the division format in the BIg Ten. It may have been a good weekend, but MSU losing to OSU would have made it much better.
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:32 PM ^
Seems a bit high and I hate the thought of State benefiting with a win against a higher ranked team. Nothing left to do for Hoke and company but to embrace and defend it though.
October 2nd, 2011 at 1:08 PM ^
Definitely they best weekend for me. Had an amazing game friday shutting down and following the best reciever of granville all game. Held him to 1 catch for -2 yards. Finally getting used to this shadowing recievers stuff I've been doing it sense freshman year but working in the slot is a pain and im finallt starting to get the hang of it all. Then saturday we stomped Minnesota and I had some good quality time with my dad. And today its all about NFL football.
October 2nd, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
I think Northwestern could surprise we need to stay focused and go into that game ready to play a well coached football team. Illi and MSU have a good shot but I think Hoke will have Michigan more than ready for OSU, especially with an improved defense and there offensive struggles.
