Ugly Game of the Week: Week 1 Edition
Back by popular demand, or maybe entirely despite it, I return for my third year providing your weekly primer in what not to watch. Last year, no team pulled off the shutout, but 12 teams had 2 or fewer wins. Welcome to the list, Memphis. Elsewhere, New Mexico managed to go 1-11 and not finish last in their conference. The mighty MAC had no less than 4 teams with two wins or less. So without further ado, let's get into it.

James Madison pulled a Appy State-esque upset over #13 Va. Tech last year.
August 29th, 2011 at 1:02 PM ^
maybe we're supposed to sympathize with VaTech and deny that game happened as well??
August 29th, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
We just wait for VaTech to schedule James Madison in 6 years...
August 30th, 2011 at 11:15 PM ^
I'm sure they will, and in less than 6 years. JMU (my employer) and VT are in the same state, only ~2 hrs apart. JMU rotates playing one regional FBS schools (UNC this year) every year. This is different than Michigan setting up a rematch w/ App State, which was originally a random match up and is an absolutely horrible idea for a rematch (as we all know).

Cant give u no points, so I geesssse i gotta get in to the kids world?

First it was the rumor that Craig James killed 5 hookers at SMU, now it's 11? Let's put these heinous rumors to bed, like the bed Craig James is said to have used prior to killing 5 hookers at SMU. That did not happen and Craig James is totally innocent of killing 5 hookers while at SMU.
August 29th, 2011 at 1:14 PM ^
In Craig's defense, is it really murder if he paid them up front and they said "anything you want" ?
Just sayin - let's not jump to conclusions. None of us were there for the negotiations

Jack Kevorkian agrees... kinda.

Idaho is in the WAC, and they are terrible.
August 31st, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Agreed. Vandals =/= Broncos. At least by BSU leaving the WAC the Vandals are spared a thrashing by BSU. On the downside, there goes the in-state rivalry.
August 29th, 2011 at 1:13 PM ^
We all know that Craig killed no less than 12 hookers at SMU, and the only reason it's not highger is that some chicks did not charge him prior. If you combine hookers and skanks the number is over 20 and he should be locked in a closet with his kid for a very, very long time.
August 29th, 2011 at 1:18 PM ^
on the number of years before James finally comes out of the closet.

How soon we forget, last Sept 11, James Madison upset #13 rated Virginia Tech. 21-16

Third-tier football. Almost as entertaining as watching the Raiders spectacularly collapse against the Saints.

Archer's cast doing just about anything in Character. Can we make this happen?
August 29th, 2011 at 9:53 PM ^
Tremendous!

I kind of want that Idaho - BGSU game to kick off at noon. I mean, they'd probably get just as many sick, college football depraved viewers anyway.

I doubt you'll see a ton of Minny fans down in Southern California.
Though the opposite would be true if the game is in Minnesota.
August 29th, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
Oklahoma -- Tulsa should be an interesting game if Damaris Johnson suits up.
/actually serious

correct me if I'm wrong ( I'm sure you will ) but I think there are many more midwesterners in Nor Cal than So Cal. That game would not do well here either, but other B1G teams would draw well here.

Not too long ago they were National Champs, knocking off Appy State (ytas) on the way and winning a tough road game in Montana. Incidentally, they accomplished this the year after Tim Hightower matriculated to the NFL.
They are regularly competitive with UVA, so there's really not much reason to think that Duke will annihilate them.

The Cleveland Browns used to be called the Spiders. This was back before the Super Bowl era.

Matriculated?
August 29th, 2011 at 10:11 PM ^
I must protest this list, as I do not see the mention of EMU anywhere. That should be a pre-printed line for you...
August 29th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
His response?
"It's kinda sad that the highlight of Thursday is Bowling Green versus Idaho."
I don't think he quite understands the point of this.
August 30th, 2011 at 12:03 AM ^
There's some huge matchups Saturday night. Not so much during the afternoon.
August 30th, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
watching Robert Griffin operate against the TCU defense should be fun

Idaho is in the WAC and mediocre is being nice despite a 2009 bowl appearance. Also, ask Virginia Tech if they know of James Madison.
