OT. Will you be rooting for Ryan Mallett next year?
I don't really care either way.
I harbor no bitterness; he moved on, so should we.
Hope everything work out for him at his new school...but I'm conern about our qb play.
Can we go a week without a Ryan Mallet post for the love of God?
He's cocky and has a problem with alcohol. I will be rooting against him, just like I would root against any other cocky QB with alcohol problems.
It has nothing to do with his tenure here or departure from Michigan, though.
So you hated Joe Namath and Steve Young?
BOOM MALLET'D
I didn't know Steve Young had an alcohol problem, but I do dislike Joe Namath. Not only do I dislike him, but he's probably the most overrated NFL player in history.
Young didn't, just f'n around.
I understand where you're coming from on this, but as a cocky youngster who drinks I have a hard time hating other dudes for it.
Is that a Pizzone on the street next to a bicycle for your avatar?
Close, it's a pizza on the street next to a car
Is it a low-rider bicycle?
For real? Whenever I see "dex" I automatically pronounce it "humility."
i know, i know, but underneath my ultra-humble and cuddly exterior lies the heart of a champion
This made me lol for a bit.
He was overated as hell.
I thought Young was a devout Mormon; maybe not...
Broadway Joe, on the other hand, he sure didn't make an effort to hide it. Still love both guys though; great QBs who were exciting to watch.
I don't think that getting a Minor in Possession while out partying at a large state University necessarily implies that the individual has an "alcohol problem".
i personally will be pulling for Mallett at Arkansas. i wont be a die hard fan cheering him on but i wish him the best. he left because he didn't feel like he fit in the system. he didn't leave because he hated RichRod or had beef just wanted to go somewhere were he would be best suited and i can respect that. Mallett brought a swagger more then just cockiness. I like a QB who shows some emotion and gets his teammates excited. Although seeing Jake Long grab him and letting him know that you don't celebrate by yourself you do it with the teammates was pretty damn funny. good luck to Ryan and i hope he can get it together.
Honestly, I didn't get much of a feel for the kid when he was here. I won't be rooting against him, although that depends to some extent on who Arkansas plays.
I will be rooting for Threet, when and if he resurfaces (again depending to some extent on who his team plays).
I can't tell by your post if you know this or not, but Threet transferred to Arizona State.
And since this is the Internet, I wasn't about to look it up.
I will be rooting for him. And man if I didn't like every cocky 18 year old freshman who had an alcohol problem, I would be a surly s.o.b.
What does it take for you not to like them, then? I mean, we all hate Jimmy Clausen because he's cocky (and he plays for Notre Dame), so what's the difference?
Clausen plays for Notre Dame.
But clearly there are criteria for liking or disliking someone who is cocky.
First, is he cocky in a way that is proportional to what he's actually achieved? I can handle a lot more cockiness out of guys like McCoy or Tebow (Heisman candidates on BCS teams) than I can from someone like Jimmy Clausen (whose team barely got into a bowl last year).
Second, does he appear to be a reasonably good sport? Cockiness is one thing, but guys who also do a lot of taunting are going to be unpopular.
Third, how often does he express his cockiness? Frequent reminders of one's superiority are more annoying than the occasional display of arrogance during an interview.
The fourth factor, I will admit, is who he plays for. Personally, I'm less willing to forgive cockiness from a player at a traditional power than I am from a player at another school. If Keyshawn Johnson had played at Northwestern instead of USC, for instance, I would probably have found him much less annoying (at least until he went pro).
I agree with you. Players who taunt bother me much more than a cocky player, especially when the taunter is trying to bring attention to himself at the expense of the team. Charles Woodson was extremely cocky but I loved to watch him play football, especially when he was taking punts back 88 yards against the Buckeyes to cap a perfect season.
I don't hate Jimmy Clausen, I hate the media for Jimmy Clasuen. Other than the press conference he held to announce his decision I don't think he has done much to warrant hate. As for Mallet, I have no idea if he is selfish, but its possible because of all the rumors that his teammates didn't like him. But his on field cockiness didn't bother me for one reason. He always had a smile on his face when he was jumping around and celebrating and what not. The only thing I can't stand is a cocky scowl a la Kobe Brayant, KG etc. Since when did being good at a sport automatically allow you to become "hard"? That I can't stand. Plus if I could throw a football 85 yards, I would think I was cool too.
Yeah, that is one of the things that most stood out to me in his one season here. He might have lashed out at Lloyd or SuperMario, but more often than not he had a big smile on his face. And, even with his back-talk to Lloyd, Lloyd really liked the kid (I think). Mallet always appeared to me to be happy to be at Michigan, happy to be on the team during a frustrating season (who knows what emotions were going on in the young man's head after losing to app state, then Oregon?). His transferring was a smart career move, not some slap in the face of selfish Michigan fans. Get over yourselves.
Was that Lloyd was fed up to the teeth with the kid. Like him or not, he was allegedly sick of his shit. (No sugarcoat.)
There is good cocky and bad cocky.
Ryan Mallet is BAD cocky.
Colt McCoy is GOOD cocky.
Being confident in your abilities and in your ability to shoulder the team is good. Causing problems with coaching staff and upperclassmen because of your massive ego is bad.
And trust me, cos I know both QBs personally enough to judge their character.
As I UM fan, I feel slapped in the face by Mallett and don't want him to be rewarded for his behavior. I feel that if he had stayed, he would have hit enough of the open recievers that Threetidan missed last season to produce at least a 7-5 or 8-4 season and a fleabag bowl. He left UM with no experience at the most important position on the field, and, right or wrong, I put a lot of the suffering we all experienced last season directly on him.
As a human being, though, I want to see him "rehab" himself like Brian Griese did and fulfill his potential, both in life and sports. As a human being, I also want to forgive him and hope that his decision turns out to be in his best interests.
Sometimes this "human being" thing really sucks.
I will be rooting for that pelt down in Tulsa.
I will be rooting for him. He was an integral part of our team for a season. Yes he was cocky, but Tate is cocky also. And I am glad of it.
As for the alcohol "problem" - how do you define problem? Is getting caught drinking his problem (i.e., he is not discreet enough) or do you think he is an alcoholic? Dont assume the latter from the former. I am guessing he is not a chronic drinker. Don't hold him to a ridiculous, moralized standard. College kids drink. It's what they do. I am sure he drinks sometimes, and even gets drunk. Big deal.
Cocky drama queen bastard. I didn't even like him when he was on our team.
This is the camp I'm in.
your avatar looks like a kid that lives down the street from me.
Agreed 100%.
Don't give 2 shits about him drinking. That's what kids do.
It was the reports from teammates and students who'd met him all saying he was a douchenozzle that turned me off.
The kid seemed to have real attitude problems. It would have been cool to see him mature, start working hard and become a man while leading Michigan to a national title, but then reality smacked us in the face and he went home to mama and now I an indifferent about him.
My sister lives in Little Rock and her husband's a big Razorback fan, so I always root for the Hogs in SEC play. I think the nutty Razorback fans who were so eager to have Nutt leave are going to regret it. Petrino might be a good coach, but he's a bit of a jerk and he'll leave before too long anyhow.
Ole Miss is going to upset some heavyweight in the SEC this year in a crucial game, and it will be a big blow to national championship aspirations. I hope it's Alabama.
whoa whoa whoa....What are the chances that your nickname is'Dandy'???
The fans are pretty 'nutty' down there. They overreact way more than Michigan fans and are crazy haters of the people they should be rooting for.
Ole Miss will win the SEC west. Chalk it up. I don't know if they'll beat the Tebows though...
I will not be rooting for him nor will I be rooting against him.
... against Florida and possibly LSU. Basically I'll root for him to ruin the SEC's chances of winning the NC but as an SEC hater it's hard for me to root for him at all but I'll root for them to beat other SEC teams so long as they don't end up in the NC. I live in Texas and I'll tell you the Big 12 fans are far, far more tolerable and respectful than the SEC fans who've made it over here. I hope the SEC never wins a NC in any sport ever again...
If you don't like him because of his attitude go for it but the alcohol thing, that's tacky... (second what blueblueblue said, kids drink, get over it)
will not be champions.
Sucks for him.
I'll be rooting for him, but it's not like I would go way out of my way to catch a game just to watch him. I met the guy once while he was at UM and he was super nice to my two sons and signed a couple footballs for them. Obviously he wasn't always this pleasant, but who is.
1st point baby, finally on the board!!!!
I will be rooting for him to make the Outback Bowl,
So MICHIGAN can kick his ass!!!!! I think the Capital One Bowl would be pushing it, Hell maybe I'm pushing it with the Outback Bowl. ( For us that is)
I will root for him as much as I root for sweaty balls on a leather seat. Yay for duck butter...
NO!!!
Not rooting for Mallet he betrayed us...
I'm not rooting for Arkansas or anyone on Arkansas unless they are playing a team I dislike.
Are you sure Carr didn't say he was going to be *in* AA?
