OT: Good Comedies
I just finished rewatching the movie "What About Bob?'. I forgot how good of a comedy that was.
I need more suggestions for comedies. Good ones. I want to roll out of my Lazy Boy and wretch my stomach muscles.
We are entertaining a group of about 12 and have headlined the party as "A night of Comedy". We have loaded the bongs and prepared REALLY good food.
We need IDEAS for good DVD Comedy and we need this from the likes of MgoBlog. So, please rummage thru your wonderful brains and come up with a comedy or 2.
Thank you for your consideration. Blessings!
I
want some sausages?
would you like some sausage? Daddy would you like some saus-a-ges?
Where's your LeBaron, Freddy?
I disagree, even back when I loved Tom Green, this movie was terrible. Quite possibly the worst comedy I have ever seen.
Is the funniest film I've ever seen, as well as one of the most inteligent. A Michael Bay film, with puppets and musical numbers? Random at a level only Trey and Matt can achieve. Hiring the cinematographer from Bay's films only made it sweeter.
And it's even better drunk.
It's patriotic.
Irony!
And even more better stoned. My face hurt from laughing at the sex scene.
This, along with Superbad and Talladega Nights, are the funniest movies I haven't seen yet. One day...one day
Funniest movies you haven't seen?! How do you come to that conclusion about movies you haven't seen?
Blazing Saddles, Caddyshack, Airplane, Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Should be 5. You only have 4. May I suggest adding History of the World: Part 1? Or Robin Hood: Men in Tights? Mel really does deserve a second title in there, unless you want to go really old school and pick and throw something from the Marx Brothers in or something.
typo (unintentionally). I F'd it up because I was going to have a "Trinity", and remembered my 4th. And just didn't think enough to put "Quartet". But going with your lifeline, I would agree about Mel, but would probably go with Young Frankenstein.
...nothing, and I mean nothing, that Mel Brooks has ever done equals the original "Producers." An absolute member of my Top Three comedies. Zero Mostel was hilarious from beginning to end. Gene Wilder was great. And the remarkable Dick Shawn, who died way too young, as Hitler.
"I'm wet! I'm wet! I'm hysterical and I'm wet! I'm in pain! And I'm wet! And I'm still hysterical!"
And probably would rank that higher...but he cheated, and did it twice. Because the musical's pretty damn funny too. Though you can never have too much Springtime for Hitler....
I totally forgot about The Producers. Good call, that's definitely in the Mel Brooks Top 2.
another non-mainstream Mel Brooks comedy "Start the Revolution Without Me". This also has Gene Wilder in it and he plays two twin brothers. I love everything by Mel Brooks, if you are just looking to laugh play one of his or a Monty Python flick!
Three Amigos
Trading Places
Stripes
I 2nd Trading Places. Eddie Murphy's best movie in my opinion.
a young, topless Jamie Lee Curtis.
Coming to America is a pretty dam good Eddie Murphy movie as well.

2 traditional chocies:
Trading Places (My far and away #1...nothing else is even close)
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
2 that no one else but me will probably pick, but whatever...
Saved
Death to Smoochy
Though it is, my first thought of it is never "funny", but -
(Many other Not Safe for Anything on the web...you get the idea).
+1
Take it from an old @#$%er like me: Phoebe Cates in her prime was unbeatable.
An all-timer for sure.
Saved and Death to Smoochy are both tremendous.
Office Space
Space Balls
Animal House
Coming to America
Still gets me every time.
they have the Golden Arches... we have the Golden Arcs

The barber shop scenes are classic.
Super Troopers for sure and can never go wrong with Wedding Crashers.

...and the first half of Wedding Crashers. But man, does the latter movie take a hard left at "chick flick" about halfway through. Still good for some laughs, but doesn't make my group of classics.
To throw some up there that I haven't seen so far (I admittedly haven't scrolled through all of them):
Slap Shot
Animal House
Dr. Strangelove
Fargo
Major League
The Jackass movies. They are ridiculous, but I can't stop laughing during them.
I found "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" to be absolutely hilarious, but it's not for everyone. Definitely have to pay really close attention to all the dialogue, especially since everyone has a really heavy accent.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Role Models is great.
Snatch might be more accessible and is at least as funny. I love both, of course, but I could watch Snatch every night and never get bored.
I agree with Snatch. Awesome movie. Another good one that is pretty recent is The Other Guys. Some might disagree but I couldn't stop laughing during this one.
