Wisconsin Snowflakes: General Observations

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This is for the hot takes which defy categorization but are yet still relevant to our game against Wisconsin.

He is trying so hard to not sound like he's going for Michigan that he ends up sounding like he's pulling for the other team. At least he isn't like the sucknut homer announers.

I suppose you guys want a drooling homer on the air? I'm sure Griese loves Michigan as much as anybody else and he helped win our last National Championship. Maybe like a true Michigan Man, he was just being classy.

Griese loves Michigan, and I don't know where you fuks got any other idea on him.  I wish he hadn't talked about the "only one interception" thing, but Griese was not rooting against us, despite what a bunch of fools on the liveblog thought.

Left 9 points on the board, made one huge TO and couldn't get 3rd downs to our normally reliable Speight-But connection and had a lot of unforced penalties on offense.

We still didn't blink, stood our ground and found a way to win - over a team that I still think is top 10 material.  I'll take it.

Nebraska is the only real threat, and since both UW and Neb play OSU there is no advantage there.  The Huskers avoid us, but if the Badgers take care of them head-to-head they'll have the tiebreaker there.  They just need to avoid blowing it against one of the other teams.  Iowa, Minny, NW all have problems but on a good day could steal one.

GOOD:

- defense, especially DL and CB (Stribling / Lewis, huge)

- De'Veon and Isaac looked pretty tough, Evans had a solid run or two

- Darboh

- Khalid Hill battering ram still works

BAD:

- Newsome injury

- Kicking ...

- Penalties, so many penalties

- Pass protection / blitz pickup

- Drops

and our D isn't going to be able to bail us out of every game.  we need a team of shrinks for our kickers, and we'd better get ready for some tough defenses in EL and ohio.    we should be fine until then, but we need to mature some.

hope newsome's injury isn't a killer.  any word on that?

We played decent but not great. The KICKER will cost us again just like last year, just a matter of time. The O Line isn't as good as we thought, Beaty isn't ready and they just blitzed one more player up the middle and we couldn't pick him up all day. Speight still telegraphs his throws and he throws to low and slow, the D closes on his throws as there isn't much on the passes. The D was awesome! But we need work along the O Line and we really need to give Isaac more carries as he has the best vision of any of the RB and doesn't dance around like Smith. Holes close to fast for Smith to dance like that vs new teams. But I will take the win, but of course we will probably drop in the polls again.

Hopefully Speight develops his long game as Ruddock did.  As for now, I've seen a lot of his downfield passes bounce off defender's shoulder pads as he throws the deep ball late  He could easily have 5 of 6 picks this year.  Kudos on the game winner though!

I wasn't reading through the game thread so I don't know if this came up, but the Wisconsin right tackle seemed to pulling out of his stance early throughout the game. That's something that bugs me so much--I know it's a little bit of a judgment call by the refs (how early is *too* early), but it seems to be such an obvious advantage for the OL.

Thought the same thing about the RT. It was almost like the first time they missed it, they decided to just go with it and let him do it the whole game.

Also, I can't believe I've read this far in the General Observations thread without seeing someone mention that mansome interception. Hell of a statement by JD.
