Michigan is a 15-point KenPom and Vegas favorite. Let's keep up the good vibes. Go Blue!

87-85 with 30 seconds left LBST leads...
November 17th, 2023 at 8:54 PM ^
WTF, why are we struggling with this crappy mid major program?
I see we're down 87-85 with little time left?
November 17th, 2023 at 8:56 PM ^
Same defensive issues from last year.
November 17th, 2023 at 8:55 PM ^
Staple my tits to my balls and make me do sit-ups
November 17th, 2023 at 8:56 PM ^
A fitting end. Just a bad effort.
November 17th, 2023 at 8:58 PM ^
Letting this team score over 90 points and losing at home is a little worse than bad effort. Their defense issues are worrying since we've seen them in every game so far, tonight worse than usual.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:03 PM ^
Yeah, I think the defense will be an issue all year to an extent though this was also a game where one guy scored, what, 35 points. And not boxing out on that FT mattered huge here.
This team's defense does feel like it may improve with more continuity; it won't be elite but there are a lot of transfers and some of the issues just look like guys not knowing where to be or thinking someone was doing something they weren't.
I said before the year this team will be a bubble team and this game doesn't really change my calculus. This conference has had some stinkers already and UM is in that bucket. We'll see how they play against Memphis on Wednesday; that's a game where they'll be challenged on both ends and see if they learn from this bad loss or just fall back into last year's pattern.

Not blocking out on a free-throw is the chef's kiss
November 17th, 2023 at 8:56 PM ^
Wow, when did our team turn into the Washington Generals?
November 17th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
You mean the Flint Tropics? A bear fight would have been more entertaining.
November 17th, 2023 at 8:57 PM ^
Welp, that wasn’t pretty.
November 17th, 2023 at 8:57 PM ^
Fun day for us Michigan fans!
November 17th, 2023 at 8:57 PM ^
Welp. Maybe this isn’t one of the best 25 teams in the country after all. :(
November 17th, 2023 at 8:58 PM ^
No box out on the free throw? I thought Jett was gone!!
November 17th, 2023 at 9:00 PM ^
Tschetter turned into Swiss.
November 17th, 2023 at 8:58 PM ^
Yep throw this team away. What a pathetic joke. See you next year for a possible tournament run. Maybe we can go 6-14 in the Big Ten.
November 17th, 2023 at 8:58 PM ^
Welp. We knew it wasn’t going to be all puppy dogs and ice cream this season.
November 17th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
Team seems to have picked up from last year in sucking at late game situations. Bad turnovers, no mental toughness, etc
November 17th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
Welp...
November 17th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
Michigan got ahead of their skis.
LBS didn't look like a 15 point dog tonight though; their interior players really seemed to clean up ORBs and that one guard was unstoppable.
Learn from it and move on
November 17th, 2023 at 9:04 PM ^
Michigan had a decided advantage on the glass, actually. LBSU did manage to make the most of theirs, though. :(
November 17th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
90-85 LBST with them going to the line with 5 seconds left. Hats off to them, they played kinda like we did the past three games.
Edit: 94-86 final score.
November 17th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
Caps a shitty day
November 17th, 2023 at 8:59 PM ^
I’m really glad I didn’t waste time or money watching this game, it’s pissed me off enough following the game cast. Down 87-85 and they get two offensive rebounds, one of them off of a free throw. What a pathetic effort put forth!
November 17th, 2023 at 9:00 PM ^
Is this going to be a Q4 loss? Not great for a potential bubble team...
November 17th, 2023 at 9:00 PM ^
Yikes! I guess we're down to hockey today.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:01 PM ^
T Will was like the walking dead out there . Wouldn’t box out , destroyed by everyone he was matched up on .
November 17th, 2023 at 9:05 PM ^
Lucky for us he could actually use his covid year and come back yet again next year. Yay!!!
November 17th, 2023 at 9:08 PM ^
That's because he's not a good fundamental player. Boxing out, dribbling, passing.... not his strong suit.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:12 PM ^
He is one of the worst players I have seen in years..hate to rip on the kid but, he has been the same whole time at Michigan..makes "plays" where you just are like..wtf??? Takes dumb shots...does not play defense
I know the recruiting has been shit but you think there would be someone to try to play more than him. He played the 3rd most minutes tonight (35) that is crazy
November 17th, 2023 at 9:01 PM ^
The cherry on top of a fucking awful day 💩
November 17th, 2023 at 9:01 PM ^
There's almost no recovery from this loss. How does this loss rank in terms of bad losses last 15 years?
Gotta be in top 3
November 17th, 2023 at 9:02 PM ^
Absolutely one of the worst. All momentum and goodwill gone. This team is heading toward the bottom of the Big Ten.
NJIT loss came up but otherwise, idk.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:07 PM ^
NJIT was pretty bad probably worse.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:10 PM ^
Worst loss Eastern Michigan 2014 45-42...that barn burner😬
November 17th, 2023 at 9:03 PM ^
Perhaps. But I can’t get too excited (or upset) when it comes to November basketball.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:03 PM ^
Bad start to a bad weekend. I'm afraid to check the hockey score.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:05 PM ^
Hopefully I won't jinx it, but you can check the hockey score.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:05 PM ^
NJIT says hi.
LBSU isn’t that awful, and anyway it’s just one game. Let’s see a few more before we bury the team.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:08 PM ^
Defense is horrible and must be fixed but early season upsets happen in CBB. The 2013-14 team lost to Charlotte and won the Big 10.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:14 PM ^
Don’t critique the defense here, you’ll get downvoted. Apparently giving up 94 and 35 points to one player is stellar defense. This is Long Beach State, not Purdue.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:40 PM ^
Nobody is saying this was a good defensive performance but people acting like this years defense is not different than last years are just being reactionary.
Last year UM gave up 83 points and to EMU to Bates going off for 31. EMU was the #317th team in the country last year. They were terrible. This is a bad loss but UM has been far better defensively this season than last year before this game.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:11 PM ^
LBS was 125th per KenPom coming into this game. They lost to CMU and they were in the 300s. This is an upset and a bad loss but this is like losing to Syracuse or Minnesota bad, not losing to a bad MAC team bad.
It's not good and now UM has to hope LBS doesn't crater but UM is a bubble team and all of them have bad losses. But they've cut down their margin of error significantly with this loss.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:16 PM ^
Be honest though....wouldn't you rather say we lost to Syracuse or Minnesota?
November 17th, 2023 at 9:26 PM ^
In college basketball I don't think name matters. Last year the final 4 featured UConn, FAU, SDSU, and Miami. One of those is a team with any basketball history.
I'd prefer UM not lose to anyone who's bad but the name next to it doesn't matter. And honestly, if you wind up losing to a team that wins their conference, for example, that helps your case for a bid more than a loss to a mediocre P5 team usually.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:04 PM ^
The defense has been the same for four straight games now, we just have been better on offense than other teams up until tonight. To allow a player to go off for 35 that isn’t even playing for a high major is just sad and pathetic. For Juwan learning under the Miami Heat administration and their attention to defense, he sure as hell hasn’t instilled it here.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:09 PM ^
This is false. Michigan defense was good against Youngstown State and St. Johns (SJU inflated it in garbage time).
You can see analytics performance ratings game by game here:
https://barttorvik.com/team.php?team=Michigan&year=2024
/And lol at criticizing Juwan for a game he's not even on the sideline for.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:12 PM ^
I’m saying Juwan because it’s been his team for the last few years. I know he’s not out there coaching. If you’ve watched the last few years and think we’ve been a solid defensive team then we see completely different things.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:14 PM ^
Yeah, UM held SJU to a point per possession even with garbage scoring thrown in. This isn't an elite defense but it's light years better than last year until this game.
November 17th, 2023 at 9:15 PM ^
We’ll see over the course of the year. I’ll be happy to be wrong but I just don’t see it.
